BOSS load order

  Reveal hidden contents

Unrecognized Plugins

When I try to use the "sort" feature in MO it gives me an error saying "failed to run boss: Cannot find online masterlist revision number!" BOSS still works when I use the "run" feature from within MO.

I need BOSS to autosort my mods this way, because I am having load order issues, and I failed at manually sorting them.

In my attempts to get my mods working correctly prior to this issue; I have have manually deleted mods from the "mods" and "downloads" folder from my MO directory (and manually added mods to my "downloads" folder when they wouldn't download properly.

In addition, I sometimes don't see mods that have been installed, in either my "mod categories" window or "plugins" tab. Several of them are missing, but will still be active in game.

As you can see, I do have several unrecognized plugins, and I did send a plugin submission for each of them. However, the "sort" feature was working before, even with many of those plugins installed, so I don't know what could have started this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Because of the BOSS update, BOSS integration is broken. Tannin is now developing integration with LOOT, but that isn't completed yet.

To get BOSS working isn't too difficult, so let me make it easy for you:

1. Download BOSS 2.20 from the installer link at the bottom of this page.

2. Install like normal, optionally delete all shortcuts to it.

3. This will have installed BOSS to your root drive (most likely C:BOSS). Cut the entire BOSS directory and paste it inside your real Skyrim directory.

4. The next time you run Mod Organizer, BOSS shall have automatically been added to your list of executables (only if you followed step 3 will this happen).

Okay I did that and BOSS was automatically added to my list of executables, and BOSS works when I run it.

But the "sort" feature is still not working. Thats what I need to work here. It was working for me before a week or so ago, so why isn't it working now?

I had the same version of BOSS (v2.20) for several weeks so it can't be the BOSS update. Unless Mod Organizer updated in the past couple of days and thats causing this issue??

Mod Organizer's integrated BOSS is different from your installed BOSS. It is bundled within Mod Organizer. The sort button won't work until Tannin fixes it. Until then, you'll have to rely on running BOSS through Mod Organizer. The reason why it won't work is because the integrated BOSS queries a database that no longer exists because BOSS updated and is using a different database.

Okay, and I assume this all started less than a week ago, or maybe I am dreaming that it worked. I'll wait for the fix then.

Iirc the switched from https://code.google.com/ to github and it was announced on the BOSS thread that the repository (which also contains the masterlist for BOSS) would be removed on the 31th of March. This explains why the internal BOSS (sort button) in MO (which used the API of BOSS)  did work but does not work any longer. LOOT 0.50 has been released this week. I also switched this week from BOSS to LOOT. MY experiences with LOOT can be found here. NOT going back to BOSS ever.....

@DoubleYou. You wrote "Tannin is now developing integration with LOOT, but that isn't completed yet." I didn't contact Tannin but perhaps you can share what you know. Very curious how he plans to do this. Iirc from the LOOT thread there isn't an API and also there won't be. The LOOT team does not want ppl to blindlingly trust the outcome of LOOT. As in a sort button in for example MO or NMM but actually start LOOT themselves. LOOT has a very nice feature which I missed but is described in the link I mentioned before.

I only know what Tannin said here

The dev of BOSS has moved the repository that stores the masterlists and dropped the API from the updated version of BOSS.This effectively means I can't integrate BOSS anymore with any reasonable amount of work. I decided to switch to LOOT instead but this takes more work. Until then please simply ignore the "sort" button.
