vestan Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Just saw this posted up on the nexus and thought it may be a useful resource for the STEP community if they are wanting to quickly merge core mods from the STEP set up. (I tried posting this in the 'Guides and resources'  section but couldn't start a new topic). It'll probably need some testing by you guys, but it may be a useful resource to jump on. https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/37981/? Â
phazer11 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Yeah I downloaded it the other night but haven't gotten around to trying it I'm mainly working on getting my STEP installs completed and separated for testing atm.
Kelmych Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 The description section on Nexus for this utility mod is also quite useful. It covers some of the major issues involved in merging plugins. I edited the mini-guide referenced in my signature to include discussion and reference to this mod, and I added a new subsection on issues associated with changing FormIDs.
SabreCat Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 If this turns out to work well and be reasonably usable, it would be a fantastic addition to STEP/SR. A good optional step at the end of the process to collapse things down for more room in the mod list.
Kelmych Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 When we include a discussion of patch and plugin merging in STEP and SR guides we will probably want to provide specific instructions on what can safely be merged.
Mator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Cool, thanks for posting this. :) I'll be working on merge functionality more in the future, with some help from the TES5Edit team, to hopefully make merging more mods possible. I think it'd be really cool to be able to merge your entire load order down into "category" ESPs for the types of mods you're running. It'd make things really clean. ofc, the problem with this approach is updating mods would be a ***** (want to update something? make a new merge file!) and if you want to remove a single mod you have to make a whole new merge file, but I still would totally do it if it was possible. EDIT: Oh and, if you guys haven't seen it, I've started a pretty handy testing thread for merge testing. https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?showtopic=1033740

If you'd like the Mod Author's badge message one of our admins (I call him zed) on the nexus.
Mator Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Oh I don't deserve a badge. I'll wait until I've released a few more useful things, then I'll feel like I oughta have one. ;} -Mator
exploiteddna Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 my only hesitation with something like this is that i think it could potentially cause more problems than it does good. It almost gives people too much power... I think it's really important for people to understand exactly what they are doing and why they are doing it before they decide to use an automated process that does it for them. As such, i think it should only be recommended for advanced/power users and mod authors, not so much for the average mod user. That being said, I think its a great piece of work and I commend the author for the work he/she did on the script. I have tested it out myself and for the most part it does exactly what it's supposed to. Nice work

torminater Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Some People don't even read the download name of a version... I like your script. As soon as it's known what it can do and what it can do wrong i'll try it out. I need all time savers i can get.

youtoo Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 it would be very nice if there was a way for tes5edit to generate a report that tells you all of your conflicts. generate it to a file a file in a nice table structure. so you can get 1 big picture look at everything. right now, it looks like people have to manually look at every new mod. does anyone know why you cant search by .esp for a new mod? If I add my 91st mod and run BOSS first, it will re-order the .esp. its a pain to locate it in the drop list.

Just type in the esp name you are looking for. How hard is that?
Kelmych Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 it would be very nice if there was a way for tes5edit to generate a report that tells you all of your conflicts.TES5Edit will do this with filters. Read section 4.3 of the Tutorial for Fo3Edit/FNVEdit . You can have it filter the display to show only the records with conflicts; there are typically a large number since a "conflict" is just a change in a subrecord; most of the changes don't cause any problems. It's still often very tedious to look through. I'm not sure what you would expect a simplified big picture to look like; I'm not even sure how to specify it. generate it to a file a file in a nice table structure. so you can get 1 big picture look at everything. right now, it looks like people have to manually look at every new mod. does anyone know why you cant search by .esp for a new mod?
