STEP Program plus other mods

Recommended Posts

Hello all, just going to get back into Skyrim after a couple of years. I wanted to come back to it once all updates and DLC's were finished.

I want to use the STEP program plus a few realism/immersion mods that the program doesn't address. I am just unsure of how compatible they are and any useful/helpful comments would

be greatly appreciated. I have Dawnguard and Heathfire installed.

Lighting/Weather: was thinking of RCRN  https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1875 as I have used before in STEP and it made nights/dungeons truly dark and immersive.

Combat: was thinking of DUEL  https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2700 as it seems the most realistic, not long drawn out fights. Was wondering if the Stamina is changed in any way or health for that matter. Eg is health still regenerative?

Magic: Mighty magic Skyrim https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13166 seems like a balanced and realistic overhaul

Stealth: Stealth Skills Rebalanced - Sneak - Lockpicking - Pickpocketby kryptopyr https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/28418 again realistic overhaul

Some of the modules from ERSO _ Erkeil Real Skyrim Overhaul https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26217/?tab=3&navtag=%2Fajax%2Fmodimages%2F%3Fuser%3D0%26id%3D26217

In particular - ERSO 01 - Vanilla Races Redone, ERSO 02.1 - RALs, ERSO 06 - Wait More Time Before Next Dragon Encounter, ERSO 10 - RUS-(SIM)-Travellers and Adventurers,

ERSO 10.02 - Adventurers and Travelers, ERSO 10.05 - Immersive Patrols, ERSO 13 - MD - A Better Level Progression, ERSO 13.02 - Lower Skill Gain, ERSO 14 - Vendors richer and Inns more expensive,

ERSO 14.02 - Harder barter, ERSO 15 - Timescale, ERSO 17 - Training cost, ERSO 18 - Legendary Armors and Weapons Enhanced, ERSO 19 - Respawn *.*, ERSO 20 - Standing Stones Overhaul,

ERSO 26 - Realistic Fall Damages, ERSO 27 - Better Archery Stuff, ERSO 29 - DPMO changes dragon mask attributes,

Also Enhanced Enemy AI by Erkeil https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/36478/ This mod addresses the AI for all enemies, monsters and animals.

Companions: UFO https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14037 and Diverse Female Housecarls by c_striker https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13762 requires ApachiiSkyHair by Apachii https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10168 and

Vilja in Skyrimby Emma Amgepo Lycanthrops  https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26393

Needs : Realistic Needs and Diseases by perseid9 https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26228 , Campsites in Skyrim by jet4571 https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31683/

Cloaks of Skyrim by Noodles https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12092 , Winter Is Coming - Cloaks by Nivea https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13486

Armor/weapons: Immersive Armors by hothtrooper44 https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19733 , Immersive Weapons by Hothtrooper44 - Ironman5000 - Eckss https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27644

I think I have covered most things for a more hard but not too hardcore, realistic and immersive experience. I just hope to high hell they are all compatible with each other and STEP.

If anyone has any idea's, comments, etc on these extra mods, pls do.

I know there's a few there but if anyone can see an incompatibility etc, any advice more than welcome.

Hopefully others looking for a modlist in the same vein can also use.

Apparently, you no longer need to use Enhanced Projectile Soul Trap with Mighty Magick unless you are using ASG (in which case, you can use that).

UFO I've heard messes with vanilla scripts and can cause problems if you try to uninstall it. I'd recommend Extensible Follower Framework instead, it's as in-depth a overhaul of the follower system and it doesn't mess with vanilla follower scripts.

ERSO I've never used - but if there are any conflicts with my mods, I'd like to know.

if you want to make the game harder... (Id like to get these added to STEP or Skyrim Revisited, if someone can write up how)

If you are going to use these, its essential to go into Deadly Dragons mod and set it to to 'essential NPCS dont die' or you will quickly find the game unplayable as many quest npcs will get whacked.

ERSO: I think this is a modpack. Look at the mods that are in it. I think some of them are in STEP and Skyrim Revisited.

Add:

SkyRe and Asis, et al. See forum post for adding this to Skyrim Revisited with some other mods. Adds alot more perks and makes mobs harder

Sands of Time: increases mob spawn rate and difficulty. adjustable

Look for some bandit mods that increase the number of bandits and another that gets them to raid towns.

Size adjustment mod (cant remember the name). Makes mobs realistic height. The giant that the companions fight on your first trip to Whiterun is HUGE and looks cool.

Dragon Combat overhaul

Frostfall (integrated with SkyRe, part of skyrim revisited).

Tytanis farming mod. Real useful for frostfall

Hunting mod. real useful for frostfall.

Zombie Mod (not sure how good tihs is, but it makes the game harder)

Warzone and/or Civil War overhaul. 2nd one is very new. Not sure if there are compatible.

Alternative Start Mod: you dont have to start in Helgen. Many scenarios. Tried one where your boat is a wreck off the north coast. Have to swim out. No real supplies and your on the north shore near the College of Magic. There are several neat starting scenarios.

Companion mods that let you have more companions. Goes well with the 'harder mod' stuff since this helps balance the game.

Being a newb modder I screwed all this up when I did installs. I got some stuff to work and then got crashes. Probably due to mods that make the towns look nicer.

I'm probably one of the few that doesn't like Cloaks of Skyrim and Immersive Weapons. IW just adds too much imo and it's not consistent in quality. The "quantity over quality" problem.

I tried using CoS two or three times and I always ended up removing it. I just find that some of the cloaks look bad or out of place. Some of the red or yellow capes are so bright and their textures are so different from the rest of Skyrim they stick out like a sore thumb. The capes don't have much physics, if a character falls over or dies the cape sticks out in the air like a stiff board. Also I can't stand any sort of clipping. I don't understand why so many of the capes and cloaks have to go all the way down to the floor. I know there are shorter versions so it doesn't clip with the feet when walking but many other NPC's still wear the excessively long ones. I prefer the cloaks from Wet and Cold. It includes a few Fur Travel Cloaks, that don't clip with the feet like the CoS or WIC cloaks. W&C also includes knapsacks which adjust automatically if you're wearing a cloak so they don't sink in. I've only noticed clipping with a few armors.

UFO is outdated and was causing a few problems for me. Supposedly Extensible Follower Framework or Amazing Follower Tweaks should be good replacements, although the latter seems more complex.

Duel is fine, V5 is nearer the vanilla style, V7 hardcore is really game changing.  Try first.  I am using V5.

Might Magic is fine.  Have used it for a long time with STEP, I love forgotten magic and apocalyse too, I don't like phendrix because I hate its telekinetic spells with no animations.

Most of ERSO is fine, just pick and choose what you want. Let me recommend Skyrim Unleashed instead. Very fine tuned.

Don't use UFO, I am AFT user myself, EF is fine too, I just found AFT does more.

Realistic Needs works fine, so does Imp's more complex needs, the latter is nice because different food will have different effects, but it does make food more prominent in your game, if you don't like that then Realistic Needs is fine too. I swap between the two.

Cloaks of Skyrim and Winter is coming has been in my load order forever and are great. I don't mind the clipping so much, as I play in first player most of the time.

Immersive armor and weapon are fine too.  I agree that IW has some shitty weapons, a few silly axes if I remember correctly, but most of it is fine and the bad weapons appear very very infrequently in all the games I've played that its barely noticeable, but the absence of the mod is certainly noticeable.  So its a keeper for me.

{cut from my own post from elsewhere}

I am a Skyrim Unleashed, Duel, Forgotten Magic, Apocalyse, Mighty Magick, Skyre (just perks & races, no need for reproccer as I am using the weapon values from Skyrim Unleashed, which only supports immersive armor & weapons), Alternate Start: Live another life, Classic Classes or Race Overhaul, Convenient Horses, Frostfall, Realistic Needs, Wet & Cold (but not the footprint mod), 3DNPC, Inconsequential NPCs, Weapon degrade, ASIS, Falskaar & Wyrmtooth user with a very cut down version of S.T.E.P./S.R/S.R. Legendary.

Let me recommend Weapon & Armor degrade, it works amazingly well, customizeable and a hidden gem. Adds a tried and true and well loved RPG mechanic to Skyrim and integrates it so well. I've had no issues with it whatsoever. (Just remember to put it last in your load order manually, don't trust BOSS and activate the ring prior to making any changes to the MCM menu and it should work fine.) An amazing piece of programming.

Can't imagine playing without ASIS, I like the surprise it gives me with its increase spawns, I tone down the numbers a little so I only usually get 0-3 extra spawns max and by deactivating the potions/perks/spell/AI (Duel has its own AI so you don't need another) part of the mod, you will have no issues whatsoever.

With ERSO you probably don't want to use ERSO 10 - RUS-(SIM)-Travellers and Adventurers, ERSO 10.02 - Adventurers and Travelers, ERSO 10.05 - Immersive Patrols without installing ERSO 09, which is what these are adjusted for - better off using Immersive Patrols (merged .esp) and perhaps the Adventurers and travelers mod themselves.
