I recently tried all three companion mods:

TMTM + LIAT + BSORO

My thoughts are as follows:

BSORO has conflicts with multiple other mods (any mod that changes the bards in any way). Merge patches are a must if using this one.

LIAT I found added WAY too many people to the point where I couldn't move half the time... busy is one thing but... The animations were seemly random and there was a large % of women compared to men... which I found odd.

TMTM worked well, however unlike the default (soft) music I found it to be rather lively/loud making me wonder where it was all coming from (i.e. wanted to search for a bard band or something)... so that was a little immersion breaking for me.

Sounds like LIAT and TMTM are mutually required to not be out of place.  I agree that LIAT adds too many people, it could be a fire hazard ;)
At the bare minimum, BSORO would be needed. I've always found it odd anyway that Bards would sing randomly with no requests. How on earth are they making a living?

A solution is worth exploring for the next STEP release, IMO.

Actually, it's fairly easy to explain why Bards would sing in the taverns. Bar owners would either pay a small daily fee to the bards for their service, or offer them a room/meal in exchange.

Good music attracts the patrons and bards have several ways of making a little extra money, be it through requests from travelling adventurers or locals, or offering their services to noblemen/Jarls.

Not to mention that most bards might have more services to offer coming from the knowledge and skills they learn in their travels.

I think that all three with Dice Games in Taverns are a nice add to the game. Particularly if there is temporal variation, such that certain nights are busy, but days are less so. The community tavern would certainly be a place of gathering (besides churches) and could attract many from within the region on some nights, even in small villages.

I completely agree. The taverns should be a place of rest and joy, and I have a few other mods on the table that might help improving them even further:

Taverns v4 - recently updated module, which was held in high regards here and elsewhere for its quality. Not compatible with mods that overhaul taverns in any way, but highly recommended to check it out if you play with vanilla STEP. Should work brilliantly with LIAT and the other two mods.

Perseid's Inns and Taverns - this one overhauls the room rental system to make it much more realistic and lore friendly.

I'm pretty sure some users over here will have enough feedback to offer on these two mods.

Optionally, Expanded Towns and Villages overhauls many taverns too, so it's either that or the Taverns v4.

Anyone feel like creating a thread for each of these Tavern mods?
