Ramrod51 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Just found these, released very recently.Still at work, so can't test yet. https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27753Â (Mountain textures, up to 8k resolution)https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27681 (HD Masonry bridge) I don't have an expert eye for texture comparison, but these are looking very very crisp and high quality! On the down-side they seem to be a little repetitive... but apparantly the author is still working on that.
Yggdrasilion Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27753 Might this be an alternative to the mods STEP is currently using to improve Rocks & Mountains? I don't feel competent enough to be a judge of that, but I'm sure we can find an answer to that.
Ramrod51 Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 I believe so too, those rocks are looking great! :P That's why I proposed them in this thread a few days ago ;) https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=1205 So far no other believers I guess...
JudgmentJay Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I tried them and did not like them. They just didn't look right compared to AOF Detailed Mountains despite being much higher resolution.
Farlo Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Merged the threads, please use search before creating new topics. Edit: Because the name is so long (really?) anyone responding will probably get an error saying the subject's too long. Â This is because with the addition of "Re:" the subject name is too long. Â Since I merged the threads, it doesn't seem to let me change the thread name.
thalastwon Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I tried this mod and didn't like it either. It looks too unnatural, and if you climb one of the mountains, you'll see a LOT of patterning.
TechAngel85 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 They may be great textures, but in my opinion they're ahead of their time (it may never been their time). The textures are done so good that they don't blend well with the rest of the textures in the game. They look out of place and break immersion. Great textures, wrong game.
Sairven Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 I was thinking the same thing, techangel. Maybe good for ES VII though. :D

Perhaps, as graphics card power and nvram continue to grow, and modders continue to improve their mods, one day we will have a skyrim full of textures like this...
JudgmentJay Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 It's not the quality of the texture that's the issue. There are plenty of mods with very high quality textures. It just doesn't fit the game's art style.

Thing is, there are already a dozen texture overhauls and these rocks still wouldn't mix with any of them.
Besidilo Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Great textures, not the type of mountains you would expect in Skyrim, though. It departs too much from the original style of the game.
carlos3lance Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 The black appearance looks like tropical granite. In a setting with azure colors and powerful sun glare, it'd fit marvelously. But for northern Skyrim, emulating the Scandinavian climate and color palette, it stands out, like others have said.
EisDrache Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 if you take these textures of his (https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27813) there alot better with alot less repetition/tiling
