  1. Well it clearly doesn't answer all my questions (who's not reading properly now ;) ) but I accept that paragraph does contain some warnings. I think it could be more helpful though. For instance "The exception is that if you have less than 1GB VRAM, this texture upgrade may be too much for your GPU, so apply it and the following options with cautious optimism.". Either the HRDLC+STEP will work on 1GB cards or it won't, so it would be more useful to advise one way or the other. As for "If you are lazy and have concerns about your VRAM, you can skip to step 8 below", I don't think it's helpful to suggest people who'd rather download one of the HRDLC Optimised packs, rather than go through all the hassle of following the steps manually when no specific or significant benefit is identified are lazy (and indeed using HRDLC Optimised seems the sensible choice in terms of reducing VRAM usage). Fair enough, in that case it might be best to keep it on a separate page and not copy it to the Skyrim Installation page, but also DLC - step 6 on that page should make it clear that for most people doing the optimizations is unnecessary and can be skipped. SIG edited for clarity and additional options added. @Z I need a specific place to link to in the ddsopt guide for step 6, any recommendations?
  2. If you install anywhere other than the default location (skyrim\mopy) you need to edit the ini to make it work. I'm almost down to the Mod Managers section of SIG, won't be long till you have a simple installation routine.
  3. I can ask Stopping to add the main guides to the wiki menu at the top of the page and we can start the practice of including a link to the corresponding thread in the intro of each wiki. Would that cover the functionality you would like to see?
  4. Yes in certain areas it will max out your VRAM if you install every mod, even at lowest available resolution. Use GPU-Z and check for yourself.
  5. I'm not sure what you mean, could you make a sample?
  6. I'll be writing the Mod Testing Guide after I finish the Installation Guide. Teaser: It will include a few dozen saves for taking standardized screenshots and video from around the worldTutorials for creating animated gif's for static comparisons and video for dynamic comparisons. A tutorial to TESVEdit and/or TESVGecko (or a workaround) for comparing mod edits and especially identifying conflicts and possible resolutions.A tutorial for putting all this information you've gathered into a useful format as a Review or Wiki page.More to come, suggestions welcome.
  7. Your install is in the program files directory that is controlled by the windows UAC, you will need to right click both skse*.exe and set properties to always run as administrator. Same for TESV.exe, and any other addons or utilities you install there. I cover this issue extensively in the Installation guide.
  8. QD Inventory causes a bug in the enchanting menu preventing any enchanting while using the mod. It should be removed or noted that you must deactivate it every time you want to enchant.
  9. @Z Short and sweet solution, I say troubleshooting guide.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised if brumbeck packaged SMIM in BAIN format with a fomod, my advice was meant to be more general to include the upcoming mods that require NMM as well.
  11. No you must install with NMM or do it manually with 7zip or repackage the file to BAIN. There are actually quite a few mods in step that require NMM. If you want to learn how to repackage a file into a BAIN format that bash understands try the Wrye Bash Guide.
  12. Possibly an ini error, rename your ini files in your Documents\My Games\Skyrim directory. Now start the launcher and it will rebuild them, accept the defaults and try and start skyrim.
  13. I want my cake and eat it too, why can't I have a private world with only buddies I invite sometimes, and other times I rush out to 100 vs 100 pvp slaughterfest in an open world. Certainly no technical reason why not. The only thing I am particularly interested in from the article is the combat, active skill based offense and defense sounds really fun.
  14. First paragraph of the DLC install answers all of your questions."if you have less than 1GB VRAM, this texture upgrade may be too much" "If you are lazy and have concerns about your VRAM, you can skip to step 8 below" Not really much I can do if you skip the intro and just start following the steps. Perhaps the confusion is arising from jumping from the ddsopt guide to here. I recommend either copying the whole section into the guide or sending them here to follow every step and come back to ddsopt guide at step 6 and than back again to finish out 7,8. Personally I think its better to have the info in only one place so we don't end up reinventing the wheel and also giving differing advice. The optimization with ddsopt are completely optional and are intended for the diehard who wants to wring every bit of graphic beauty out without compromising performance.
  15. did you follow the skyrim installation guide?
  16. leather weight fix could be remade in the CK in 15 minutes, and yes USKP fixes all the bugs included in spell fixes without any of the design changes.
  17. There is no benefit and the possibility looms large that you will find out about a new bug that this behavior causes sooner or later. If there was a conceivable benefit I would chance it, but it takes .00078 seconds to process the *.bsa entries as they are, any additional speed is kinda irrelevant.
  18. Added quite a bit of new content as well as some needed clarifications and formatting changes. Enjoy
  19. They aren't new use what you already have downloaded. If they don't reappear we may put them up on dropbox for new STEPPERS.
  20. It depends on your installation, there are many different possible outcomes based on your hardware and personal preferences. You would have to opt in to every optional optimization before you could start editing out default bsa's from you ini, and even then we don't recommend it.
  21. Also as a general rule always download the loose files version and always the 1024 version.
  22. Yeah the projects folder is an internal development forum. Just continue on here. alternate esburn fix
  23. Make sure you have cleaned out the broken files from the DLC or that will happen every time. Also turn off your antivirus program while its running.
  24. There are no entries in your ini file, this guide is for a new skyrim installation.
