If true... disappointing. BUT... The guy admits to playing only some of the worst MMOs out there - had he mentioned/compared against Vanguard, Everquest 2, AoC, DAoC then I would have more respect for his opinion. Also the screen shot looks nothing like WoW - what is he thinking (rather closer to RIFT visually I would say). However it is still a disappointment even for a looong time MMO player like me. Why? Because it would seem that what is to be carried over is the Lore from the games and not the mechanics or the freedom which are the major selling points that get me to play what is is essentially otherwise a very lonely experience. (I have hardly played a single-player game in the last 7 years except Bethesda :P ). - Btw, the housing comment, like comments often made about crafting by MMO devs, is bollocks. The player housing system in EQ2 was one of it's highlights. -

That is promising if they truly are looking at this with an 'old school' view. I hate to say it but a lot will come down to the Engine they finally use as many people will expect something akin to the modeling and graphic detail of the solo games and not give gameplay a chance if it fails to impress. The nature of a solo RPG and an MMORPG are quite different in some fundamental ways and those who have only ever played solo games will find it a bit of a 'culture shock', a LOT will ride on the nature of the Community for the game.

Good catch this is a very recent change, but afaik the original script still works fine. Will need to check out and test the new HighResTexturePack DLC Tweaks and the Cleaner.

No real worries about the MMO competing with 'normal' TES as they are being developed by different teams - Bethesda will continue with the solo games. I actually have a lifetime sub with LotRO and enjoyed it immensely - still pop in now and again but wasn't very happy with the whole Free 2 Play change (although it is probably one of the best F2P schemes running in MMO world). Had grave doubts about it originally as a franchise and a story driven world, but it was handled very effectively I thought. Unfortunately the current MMO market has moved in directions that don't emphasise the aspects of RPG that interest me... which does give me worries about the nature of the TES beast we will be offered. Only time will tell. Strangely I'm not a WoW basher, I didn't play it for long as I was already spoilt by MMORPGs more to my taste but I did quite like it for what it is (think: like comparing TES to Diablo II ;) ). If WoW has a major fault it tends to be its community which has driven away more 'mature' players than I care to mention. Anyway far off topic and not something I want to get into deep discussions about. I just hope that TESO has been conceived in light of what makes the solo games so good and not what makes modern MMOs attractive to kiddies (and accountants). [Don't take offence anyone - I know maturity is not a number :) ...but I do seem to have developed a bit of a fetish about accountants, odd that... ]

Another good point blacksol about the config. I meant to raise this with zMan myself and forgot. In the end I went by the images in the guide and adjusted the DDSopt settings accordingly but did mean to confirm this.
-
Careful Monty, Rome also trained and 'educated' it's Third World allies and those were the very Barbarian Hordes who swept it aside! I do love the cyclic nature of history :D
-
@blacksol No, you're not doing anything wrong and I think you are right about possibly adding a warning about this to the guide so as not to surprise people ;) The placeholder.txt files do nothing and are part of the few errors (this + files misnamed + files incorrectly located (iirc)) that came with the HD DLC release. I guess because we were accustomed to knowing the errors (used to have to fix them by hand) it didn't get mentioned in the guide. A good catch on your part as it is very easy to become so familiar with a topic that you can't see it with 'fresh' eyes when trying to describe it to someone else and what is obvious to you gets forgotten or missed for the guide user. That's the beauty of working as a team - fresh eyes :)

Lol, I still have high hopes for this... but I have deployed the safety net, double checked the parachute, and inflated the crash bag, just in case ;)

I know I shouldn't but I just can't help myself... I'm going to make one of those comments an educator never should (but listen for the whispers in the staff rooms). What of the poor buggers who were just born to shovel ****? Their role in the world is no less important... do you plan to fast-track them to the **** shovel my Lord? ...and before you hate me or pour **** scorn on my head, I am only semi-serious... and anyway I have flu' and cannot be held intellectualy accountable for any statements I might make :D

This is of course true, however in the real world learning for the sake of learning can be deeply satisfying but try to convince an employer that you are worth your salt with anything BUT those pieces of paper and you won't get far. I'm not disagreeing with you by any means, but sadly it is a fact that at some point we have to make some arbitrary and completely artificial statement about the progress of an individuals attainment. That tends to be based on assessment of results from study (ongoing or through exam) + the status of the awarding institution (which hopefully they deserve :P ). It means very little in intillectual terms but if education/learning is to have any currency for other than personal satisfaction it has to be done, right or wrong. Of course it doesn't guarantee expertise or even accomplishment (unless everyone carried their full portfolio of marked work araound to show!). It mainly gives a vague interpretation of commitment, capability and potential. Only application through experience has any more concrete meaning.

A good read Fri, any initiatives of this kind have to be welcomed. I would be much happier to see a group have the courage to offer a valid certification through these courses as well... BUT, many universities and colleges are now little more than money-minded conveyorbelt systems (the accountant effect again) although they would argue blue faced that it is all about the education :P With the relatively low overheads of an online 'university' it might even be possible to pay reasonable wages to lecturers for marking and assessment through some forms of advertising and industry involvement. Except that accredited organisations would never give their qualifications away for free. However, if a certification was given with due diligence, accredited or not, and students with that certificate were found to be exceptionally competent it would gain a market value of its own (after all that's how Oxbridge certification came about - just as a paper to prove "I went here to learn, and they say I did"). The biggest problem with distance learning is ensuring the work has been done by the claiming student ;) Although there are ways of capturing plagiarism, substitute students would be harder to catch. Be that as it may, any schemes making true education more widely available have got to be a great thing :D

I just switched over to the Python version today so that I could get onto the SVN :) Odd that this conversation should start up just after I did that... but usefull :)

wanted Skyrim Bug Guide

I saw/heard the reference in the Sanctuary vid. If i can find the time I'll help as best I can. Not promising tho' as I'm pretty tied up between RL & STEP ;) -
Discussion thread: CFM-Extreme Compatibility Config by whickus Wiki Link Categorized Favorites Menu - Extreme Compatibility Config For anyone using the Categorized Favorites Menu by favmenumodder this config may be of interest. It makes the new fav menu compatible with a large number of spell, armour/weapon mods. [Caveat] The author states that he may or may not be keeping this up to date and that mods covered but now updated may or may not still be compatible :P

Interesting. As noted in the Nexus forum thread you could also use Personalized Music - Add your own music to Skyrim by No_Aardvarks_Allowed to use these new tunes alongside the vanilla originals without overwritting and losing them.

I always look thru the STEP 2.0.1a document before posting' date=' and it wasn't there. :)[/quote']My apologies Vond you are right, it appeared in the STEP 2.1 preview #2 :) My bad, I didn't mean to suggest you were not being thorough.

I believe this was already included in STEP 2.0.1a. But I agree it's exactly the sort of small mod that brings Skyrim to life :)

Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
Bealdwine replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Thanks zMan, and I approve of the couple of tweaks you added :) I originally created the page as it was, due to there already being a heading under Troubleshooting for z-fighting but I think it richly deserves the upgrade to a Guide in its own right. Well done torminater. -
SKYRIMLE SkyTEST - Realistic Animals and Predators

Thanks fri :) it doesn't surprise me that someone had already been thinking about this. I'll take a look through that file.

SKYRIMLE SkyTEST - Realistic Animals and Predators
Bealdwine replied to Bealdwine's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
That's a shame TC. I really like the concept behind this mod and Real Wildlife (although I wish this were more modular as I'm not sure about the desease aspect) :( -
DROPPED Ars Metallica - Smithing Enhancement (by Arthmoor)
Bealdwine replied to frihyland's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I love crafting but it is a sticky subject for me as so many mods add to the crafting lists. I already have a few multiple entries which I assume are arising from seperate mods altering similar entries. It isn't game breaking, just messy. I may have to be more careful (read: reduce) in mod selection to minimise this. Again it is why I prefer one mod to perform one task and not force several (unless it does it so well the other mods become redundant ;) ). Any mod concerned with bows and archery are a case in point as so many also offer arrow-crafting/arrow-length/arrow-mesh changes, eventual conflict is inevitable.
