In looking at the Wrye Bash forum on Beth, it looks like 1.5 has thrown them a curveball by changing the structure of update.esm. As I read it, they think it is the killcams. What is with Bethesda? For the last 3 games (at least!) - Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 + New Vegas - the mod community has fixed bugs, improved looks, and increased the popularity, reputation and longevity of each one enormously. Yet it seems now that there is no communication from Beth to even give some consideration or a headsup on Update changes (other than a short beta phase) or provide some dialog to help the major mod teams prepare for changes. It's really starting to tick me off as I would never have played their games for half as long as I have without the modders out there! /rant off

Skyrim Unplugged (by stoppingby4now)
Bealdwine replied to stoppingby4now's question in Other Utilities Support
Yup sitting tight until apps like Wrye Bash & BOSS catch up to the load order issues and any beastliness this update adds into the mix. -
True, but I'm unsure of my access rights so haven't checked out the wiki thing to date. I seem to have been reduced in ability to participate since the move from the other forum.

Good going zMan :) Definately ready for beta and hopefully a flood of comments to help tweak it up. I don't plan to re-install again until the 1.5 update has cleared and BOSS/WB get to a stable release, but will definately use this at that time - if comments are still required then I'll happily chime in again.

The fact that SkyUI will throw up a message box in-game (when looking at the inventory) about not detecting SKSE often causes users confussion. Here are some of the most common reasons SkyUI will do this: 1 - When a new update from Bethesda is released. ______________________________________________________ Solution: Go to https://skse.silverlock.org/ for the latest version and reinstall. 2 - skse_loader has not been set to 'run as administrator'. ______________________________________________________ Solution: Firstly it is best practice not to have your Steam (and therefore your games) installed to C:\Program Files (or C:\Program Files (x86)) as they will be hampered by UAC - User Account Control. Even if you install or move Steam to something like D:\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim it is probably best to open the ..\Steam\Steamaps\common\Skyrim folder, right click on the skse_loader.exe file select properties and Compatibility tab and click Change Settings for All Users then tick Run As Administrator box. Apply and OK. 3 - You have a shortcut icon on the desktop or in the Start Menu or on the taskbar and it is not pointing to skse_loader.exe ______________________________________________________ Solution: Right click the icon (if in the taskbar right click the icon again in the pop-up box) select Properties and check the location that 'Target Location:' points to. If necessary cut and paste the full path of skse_loader.exe into the box and Apply, OK. (You might want to check the Starts In: box too as it should say something like - D:\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim depending on your Steam location. ALWAYS use the skse_loader.exe (or a shortcut) to start the game not the desktop icon created by the normal Skyrim installation. 4 - Set 'Read permissions' for the game folder. ______________________________________________________ Solution: If none of the above has helped it may be that the game folder in Steamapps\common has a setting of Read Only so no programs or mods can interact with anything inside. Right click the common\Skyrim folder and check to see if the Read Only tick box has a tick or is coloured (usually pale blue), if so click on the tick box until it is cleared (white) and Apply. There may be a delay as all the files and folders in Skyrim are reset to allow write permissions, once completed OK out and start the game using skse_loader.exe then in-game press I and hopefully you will not receive the SkyUI warning box. If your problem persists you may have other issues so ask at the SkyUI forum thread or the SKSE thread. Good luck and happy modding

I'm sure many visitors here will have questions/problems associated with using STEP mods. While it may at times be necessary to point the querant to the relevant Nexus thread for help, a community like this one also develops a pool of experience and knowledge that can answer many frequently asked questions. If you recognize that a query is (or potentially may) puzzle STEP users here is a place to preempt those repeat calls for assistance :)

Good Performance Hunting
Bealdwine replied to Bealdwine's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
The would be cool Monty :) If you are starting from scratch - unpacking the vanilla and HD archives, etc - it will take quite a while to run. As I had already done those through DDSopt it wasn't too bad for me. It mostly concentrated on the mod added textures which I hadn't optimized before. I'm still in the process of testing but haven't noticed any major degradation in texture quality or glitches... yet. Load times have improved slightly and the instances of stutter or freeze have reduced noticably. I wish there was an ingame FPS counter as running anything else to get this would effectively give a false reading as I use Game Buster to reduce CPU load - shut off unneccesary services, etc - while playing. So all I can say 'subjectively' is that I notice a difference in performance without an apparent negative in quality. Please let us know how you get on. -
Mentioned this on the Nexus forum but IMAGINATOR looks promising as a way to tweak the RL settings for those who find the dungeons/indoors too dark or shadows with too much contrast.

As we all know STEP is mainly about modding Skyrim up to look as yummy as possible, but that comes at a cost even for the highest end PC rigs. Here is a space to add in all those little tricks and tweaks we use to (re)gain that lost FPS and counter that stutter - there has been extensive chatter on this topic in previous forums so it may be appropriate to bring some of that knowledge over here. @zMan On the topic of our previous talk about using DDSopt to 'correct' and reduce the VRAM load of textures. Have you seen this? Optimizer_Textures? I'm testing it now (medium setting with resize @ >1024) as I had only run the vanilla and HD DLC through DDSopt previously. It is certainly less intimidating for newer users than the other option. I wondered if you could see any flaws in its implimentation?

Sorry I missed this before - I get the 'sanitized' warning as soon as I open WB, no other action taken. Plus something is resetting plugins.txt to alphabetical order and I suspect it's related to this.
-
Back to my OP *cough* ;) The mods disabled when WB 'sanitized' my list were RealisticWaterTextures.esp, SoS - The Dungeons.esp, & SoS - The Wilds.esp none of which have been knowingly deleted or removed... Could there be another reason for this action? Nothing in the WB installers or mods tabs suggests anything wrong with these either, no coloured icon (they are green with a + sign), text, or text background. It puzzles me :|

Discussion thread: Wrye Bash by Wrye Wiki Link Wiki Guide The most versatile and sophisticated mod manager for TES4 & TES5. Much more than just a mod manager, Wrye Bash is the Swiss Army Knife of modding. Visit the guide for a more thorough description and instructions for use maintaining STEP. Nexus thread Latest release notes: Thanks to Mertz AKA Beermotor for putting these release notes together : Just starting this thread for general questions... which I'm bound to have a few ;)Starting with (and I've already done some hunting for this to no avail):What is the whole 'Warning - Load List Sanitized' thing about? Why does it disable select mods and what can I do about it?
-
For my most recent re-build I continued to use Realistic Lighting with iCCC and Sydney666's ini. Unfortunately something has changed since my last build as I'm back to long loads and stuttering. Not too bad generally but very noticable in the rain or other high particle areas. I recall some chat about RCRN v21 HDR - Realistic Colors and Real Nights before, and iirc it was said that the built in FXAA was good enough to allow the card AA to be 0 and gain FPS. But I note the latest on the site + guide suggests using nVidea AA instead. Any comments from users? Also is anyone familiar with the differences between the Classic and Pure RCRN experience?

Skyrim Unplugged (by stoppingby4now)
Bealdwine replied to stoppingby4now's question in Other Utilities Support
Interesting issue raised in the comments/forum for Unplugged about an expansion (or seperate app) to stop Steam Workshop automatically updating mods. As I stated there I don't use SW so have no way to see if the auto update of mods is also controlled from the registry. Anyone else able to check that?
