ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Main Quest (by cdcooley)
Shadriss replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I actually run that one, and while what they do is completely different, the net effect is the same. Lemme'splain. Timing is Everything adds an MCM menu that allows you to alter what LEVEL some quests fire off at. As an example, the first Hearthfire quest (Falkreath) by default fires at level 9... ridiculously early. "I've heard all about your exploits" just don't work when you don't HAVE any at that point. So, instead, I go into MCM and change that to 20 or 25... after I've had time to, you know, DO stuffs. There is a large number of quests (None of them the main one... looks to be only ones that fire by player level, which is fine by me) in the menu, so it would be a lot of trial and error to pick one that would be "STEP Friendly" so to speak, but the one I've been running makes sense to me, and I've had no problems running it. ANd yes, No So Fast SO needs to be in the next release, whenever it may be. The pause is not just good for immersion, the way it encourages you to go find something ELSE to do is a good thing. 4 years, and STILL finding new things to do in SKyrim that aren't even add-ons... that's just amazing. -
Already have this installed, but haven't had a chance to evaluate it yet. Agree with you though - assuming it's not over the top, this seems like stuff that should have been there in the first place.

Does anybody know why enb.272 is not compatible with STEP extended?
Shadriss replied to bitdman's question in Post-Processing Support
There are not - but graphical anomalies like what you describe sound more to me like an impending problem with the card itself, especially since reverting back to the older version didn't fix your problem. I'm running the latest on a modifued version of Extended with no issues (other than occassional CTDs... Oh, Skyrim, how I love thee...). How old is your current card, and what type is it? -
SKYRIMLE No More Stupid Dog Comments (by TheWinterhawk)
Shadriss replied to aaltair's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
My only question: In what way is this a bug fix? In what manner do you assign the fact that all of Skyrim hates the dog (except kids...) is a bug on the part of the designers? Use it if you wish of course... but the random background comments, like this, are, for me, a non-issue. I don't even notice them most of the time. With the obvious exception of Heimskyr. Nobdy can ignore him. No matter how we try. -
ACCEPTED Audio Overhaul for Skyrim (by David Jegutidse)
Shadriss replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Question: With the new AOS, are we still in the same place where the compatibility patches sit? For example - RWT isn't listed in the wiki as required, even if you DONT use the patch, but I'm almost certain that that did not used to be the case. Update required on Wiki page? -
Yeah so... that solution isn't working for me. Any other ideas? EDIT: Disregard. Somehow, I made a second whole directory for MO, and I was installing the update there. WOrks. Loving Life.

Question: I was under the impression from a friend that a virtual machine install was not capable of accessing the proper instruction sets for full usage of the GPU. Maybe I misunderstood him somehow, but if true, would this not affect you ability to assess WIN10 from a gamer's perspective? On a slightly related note, thanks for taking the time to do something like this... I know *I* am not brave enough to do anything similar.

I was asking for a written referance concerning the engine uncompressing audio on the fly. From your last post, there seems to be anecdotal evidence only, but it is certainly compelling. What I was considering 'wierd' was a system where it had to decompress (quite substantially, it would seem) the audio files before they could even be played by the engine. In other games I have done mods for, the engine didn't do this - hence me thinking it odd. THanks for the insight - I'll have to give installation more thought, but the numbers seem much more sound now (forgive the pun...)
-
WOuld you happen to have a reference for that? It seems very counter-intuitive. It's not that I don't belive it, it's just very wierd sounding.
-
I think you missed Kessno's actual question, Alt. What you are doing and why makes perfect sense - it's the numbers and how Skyrim processes the audio he is trying to figure out. Specifically: The XWM files that Skyrim is (presumably) using to play the music are compressed files... especially as compared to the WAV files you coverted them into. His question was how Skyrim handles those XWMs... IE, is Skyrim uncompressing them at some level to play them, such that the 2-3 MB files are now much larger than previously, and thus now constitute a 3GB file size? This seems unlikely to me - you have referenced a few times that the system is moving around (at various times, I get that) 3GB of data. That number APPEARS to be based on the WAV files you converted them into, and not on the XWM file sizes they started in. If Skyrim is reading XWM files, and not uncompressing them on the fly, then the proper comparison should be from the original XWM file sizes to the new 'silent' xwm file sizes. I'll look into the mod itself soon - the idea of the music not being there is an odd one to me, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Like you said - why cover up neat ambient sounds? Please, please, please don't read this as an attack - myself (and presumably Kessno) are curious about the technical side of this here, and not in any way questioning the value of the mod.

ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Main Quest (by cdcooley)
Shadriss replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
That's not a case of underleveling... that a case of undergearing, I think. Still, no matter what, it does take care of a pacing issue that many do feel is there. Pre3vious statement based on beating MQ at about 15 to 20... with little difficulty. Of course, I was a sniper.... -
The beautiful thing about this OS upgrade this time around is the price. Combine that with the time we have to decide (NEXT year...) and so long as it plays out, it's not like we're in a time crunch. I think, so long as it avoids the driver problems that plagued Vista when it hit, and avoids the horrific tablet-ish UI of 8 (WHAT WERE THEY THINGKING?! IF THEY WERE!), this will work out. As noted - MS does seem to have a good-bad pattern, and this SHOULD be the good one. Time will tell... actually, customers will tell. I'll just listen.

ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Main Quest (by cdcooley)
Shadriss replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I agree with what you say - thing is, I would call this exact situation 'something wrong', whereas the Main Quest doesn't have that issue. Hence, my statements. No actual bug or fix situation. *shrug* As I said, I'm keeping it regardless. -
ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Main Quest (by cdcooley)
Shadriss replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Sa far as I've seen, it's pretty seemless. No issues running it so far, and definately cuts down on the breakneck pace of the quest overall. I like it, and will continue to run it. All of that said (typed), I'm not sure it's STEP Core... or even extended. Really, the pacing of the quests aren't a 'bug' per se, and while I prefer this kind of pacing, it's a far more personal preferenence than an improvement. MAYBE Extended, but certainly not Core. -
SKYRIMLE Dawnguard Sentries Plus (by rms827)
Shadriss replied to Crimson13's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
My questions is WHEN it adds them. I use a mod that delays the DG stuffs, including the recruitment, until I his level 25 or so (Timing is Everything mod, BTW), so if they aren't even recruiting yet, I wouldn't expect to see DG patrols either. Minor point, and very mod-derived, but still one for consideration for those like me. -
For 1), The 2.2.9 guide is getting dated, yes, but if you gaze at the top of the forums, you'll note that 2.2.9.1 is going to be released shortly, and it does address most of the mod deletions, combiniations, and what not that you are generally asking about. It isn't that they aren't updating, it's that the update isn't done just yet, and they don't do micro-updates all that often. Patience is your friend here. For 2), you are correct about v187. It's what's being talked about. For the Recolored Pines, it was there last I checked, but it does appear to be gone now. It's not a major issue, however - it was a recolor, which means it just affects a few textures. Install what's availiable (for now), and the 2.2.9.1 update will likely address this, as I mentioned earlier. Also, welcome back the Skyrim Modding...

SKYRIMLE A Matter of Time - A HUD clock widget (by SkyAmigo)
Shadriss replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Holy NecroPost Batman! That said, and as much as I love this Mod, It's not STEP Core material. Technically, there's already a way to tell time, though granted it's not in the UI. Maybe for Extended, and most likely in any of the numerous variations on STEP, but not for Core, I don't think. On a side note, with a year and half of running this, never had any issues. -
Realizing this is off-topic, but hey... You should be able to install it per the instructions in the zip file, Steam or no. Since it has to run via a bat file (which I'm pretty sure I inclluded, or at least instructions on how to set it up...), it wont matter if it's Steam or not. Alternately, you CAN turn it on in-game via the Mod menu, but the custom mission briefings and the subtitles won't be correct, if I recall correctly. Enjoy... I hope... And yes - DFA spam FTL. THough the lighting changes and the new texture sets were great to have.

If you want, I can save you some shopping. I've done voice work before, though it's been a while since it was for a game. For references: https://jediknight3.filefront.com/file/Deception;61873 - This was a Jedi Knight: JA SP mod I wrote, mapped, and scripted. I also did the voice work for two of the characters in it. Doubt you can play the mod itself, but the voice files would be accessible inside the PK3 file by just unzipping them. For reference, I was the Rebel Controller and Darth Malice. On a completely different trend, I've also done some work for a guy down in Australia called MJ. He's done various 20's era style radio shows, including a spoof of the LucasArts Monkey Island series, in which I was casted as the crazy French Pirate Sir Creigh Blue. Say it with a horrible overblown french accent, and yes, it's exactly what it sounds like. I can't seem to find that site now, so it may be down, but he worked under the title of Nightlight Productions, and the series was "Beneath Monkey Island" if I recall correctly. Regardless, you can either contact me through these forums here, or via my email addy (think it's in my profile... let me know if it isn't.) I don't have much of an accent to speak of, due to my highly-mobile upbringing (USAF brat, and currently serving USN), but can do decent British Isles (High-British, Cockney, Irish, and Scottish), Russian, and a bunch of others not quite so well, but decent. Wish I had more to sell you on, but it's what I've got. Hope to hear from you soon. (As an aside, if you can tell me what kind of audio files Skyrim uses, I can probobly get it saved in that style easilly enough - Audacity does it pretty well, from my past experiances.)
-
Thank you for the clarification. Just to be certain, the Red Light Fix is what used to be the Relighting Skyrim patch. Got it. On another side note, the Vividian - Pure Weather.esp Patch is not installing with the newest build either. Built in now? EDIT: Disregard the second part - mistake on my end (took me three times through to finally catch it, but it was ALL me. :))
-
I think you may be overthingking this a bit. The X16 PCI connection is going to be the same on any card that uses it, so whatever room you have now, you should still have afterwards. The card is bigger, of course, but it's bigger in the lenght or height venue. Just my two cents... which you heard a few seconds ago, live, before I typed it so others can stay with us. :)

SKYRIMLE Blackthorn - Buildable Town in the Rift (Ld50365)
Shadriss posted a topic in Skyrim LE Mods
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/65839 SO, it appears I have been beaten to the punch. This is very similar to a project I WAS going to be doing, but it looks like it's no longer needed. An entire buildable town - though it does have a few 'cheat' items in it, those are only there if you activate them, form the description. 300 + building options, looks like decent build quality from the screens, and specific storage areas for pretty much every major (or minor, from what I can tell) collection. Guess I won't have to do this myself after all. Even if it has issues, hats off to this guy for even taking the attempt. From the Description Page: Blackthorn is a large Hearthfire inspired buildable player home/town with over 300+ build options to choose from, it also includes plenty of Safe Storage, Hearthfire Style Planters, Armor Mannequins, Displays for Dragon Priest Masks, Claws, Black Books, Paragons, Weapon Racks, Display Cases, New Merchants, Indoor Smithing Area, Plenty of room for Followers and Multiple Adoption Friendly.. -
ACCEPTED Not So Fast - Mage Guild (by cdcooley)

Having read that article, I am reminded of Billy Madison. "I honestly feel dumber for having played that questline. You are awarded no points, and may God have mercy on your souls."
