Do I include "Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized" with STEP:Core?
Breems replied to SpringBreak08's question in General Skyrim LE Support
If you want to strictly follow STEP Core, then they should be installed with the rest as that mod is marked as a Core mod. Keep in mind that textures are probably the component of STEP that you have the most control over without breaking your setup, though. -
I cant get this ENBoost-Thingy to work...
Breems replied to wu_trax's question in Post-Processing Support
If you had a PC capable of playing Skyrim at medium settings and were still using PS3, you need to sit down and examine your life. How's the family? How's your freaking 401K? What is your life about right now? -
That's actually not an issue. The starting ENB status message will always list your integrated GPU for some reason. It doesn't matter as long as it's actually using your dedicated GPU.
-
Yes, it sounds like your game is reverting to the Integrated HD Graphics, especially if you're using the performance version of RealVision ENB. Please see the solutions I mentioned above, i.e. using the injector version or using the OPTIMUS fix from HiAlgo for the wrapper version. There are multiple ways to cap your FPS. You can do it via nVidia Inspector, enblocal.ini, the FPS Limiter mod on the Nexus (not recommended), and other external programs like Dxtory.

As a laptop user, you have two options: 1.) Use the injector version. 2.) Use the wrapper version with the HiAlgo Optimus Fix. There are downfalls associated with both, but after years of playing and testing Skyrim with a laptop, I've concluded the injector version is a much better option. The only downfall associated with the injector version is that you have to run ENBInjector.exe each time you play. However, the major downfall with the wrapper version is that you cannot use proxy DLLs; in other words, SweetFX and other d3d9.dll mods will not work. I've tested this, and it seems you can launch it outside of MO. I do it via MO just to be safe, though. Your laptop should automatically use the dedicated GPU (GeForce card) when any version of Skyrim is launched. While OPTIMUS does cause some headaches, it will usually achieve its fundamental purpose in that regard. However, using the wrapper version of ENB or other d3d9.dll mods will cause Skyrim to use your Integrated HD Graphics (I'm not sure why this happens). You should be safe with the injector version, though. You should be able to easily tell which GPU Skyrim is utilizing due to the drastic difference in FPS. Alternatively, Alt+Tab out of the game and monitor GPU usage in the Taskbar. Note: I found a bug in the latest versions of Mod Organizer that Tannin confirmed. For some reason, the past few versions of Mod Organizer are unable to detect your dedicated GPU. To resolve this issue, add Mod Organizer's executable to the list of applications that use your nVidia dedicated GPU. Man. Playing Skyrim with a laptop can be a real headache.

I second the suggestion above to cap your FPS at 60 if you haven't done so already. It will likely fix both issues and potential future problems. The starting cart ride is infamous for acting insane at high FPS. In my case, I also spin around and one of the wagon wheels is about 10 feet in front of the wagon. Also, since you're using a laptop with ENBoost, make sure that you're using the OPTIMUS fix from HiAlgo if it applies to you.

Problems Setting an FPS Cap in Dxtory
Breems replied to Breems's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Sorry for not completely clarifying what I'm trying to do. I'm only trying to set an FPS limit. Dxtory has been the only software thus far that limits my FPS and simultaneously reduces input lag. FPS Limiter on Nexus, nVidia Inspector, and ENB's FPS limiter did not work for me. I've figured out that running Dxtory and ENBoost at the same time result in CTDs when you Alt+Tab out of the game. Looks like there's no way around it. -
SKYRIMLE Nvidia Optimus D3D9 DLL Fix (by HiAlgoBoost)
Breems replied to DoubleYou's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I've been happily using this for a long time. I suggested elsewhere that it should be mentioned in the guide since it's essential for any laptop user that wants to use ENBoost. -
I've long suffered from the micro-stutter/input lag issue. I've been experimenting with many of the various solutions out there. I've tried enabling VSync via the game, graphics card, and enblocal.ini. Each results in varying degrees of input lag and screen tearing. The perfect solution I've come up with is enabling VSync in enblocal.ini and limiting my FPS to 60 with Dxtory. The only problem is that running Dxtory will cause Skyrim to CTD when Alt+Tabbing, which I do frequently. I can resolve the issue with ENB's borderless window option, but that kills my performance. Any idea on why Dxtory causes this issue? I've tried setting an FPS cap using enblocal.ini and via the nVidia Inspector, but neither of those eliminated input lag like Dxtory did. Is there perhaps other software that uses the same mechanism as Dxtory?

The easiest way is to right-click on your desktop and select New -> Text Document. Just be sure that the file extension is .ini, because it will make it .txt by default. Alternatively, open a text editor of your choice, e.g. Notepad or Notepad++, and save the file as a .ini file.

Horses go crazy in the intro.
Breems replied to nillenilsson's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'm quite certain you're suffering from the effects of your FPS being > 60. I recently experienced a similar issue; my wagon wheels were detached and I kept flipping around. If you were to make it past Helen, you would probably also discover that simply opening a door causes every item in the room to go flying. Do you have vSync enabled? That might help. It didn't do the trick for me, though. I had limit my FPS to 60 using DXTORY. There are many alternative techniques for setting an FPS limit. Give one of them a try. I'm confident it will resolve your issue. -
What's eating my outdoor fps in this setup?
Breems replied to Firebrand's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Since you're working with 1GB of VRAM, I'll make some more suggestions: I strongly suspect that SFO is a culprit for your poor FPS outdoors. At the very least, I would suggest benchmarking its effect on FPS in a large grassy area, such as The Rift. If you insist on leaving it installed, I would at least change iMinGrassSize in Skyrim.ini to a high value (anywhere from 40-80) to reduce the quantity of grasses per clump. Also, the SFO author recommends changing iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=7, but decreasing that value will also help. I'm not sure where you heard that, but it's incorrect. Many of the Official HR Textures replace 512 versions with 2048 versions which is an enormous increase (4x's the original resolution). Here are my suggestions:1.) Drop the Official HR Texture pack. It's going to be a burden on your system. 2.) What do you have Anisotropic Filtering set to? You can make even the vanilla textures look good (sans some shimmering) with 16x.2a.) STEP:Core recommends Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/42360/?), but I don't see it in your mod list. This is essentially a 100-Calorie version of the Official HR Texture pack that replaces 2048 versions with 1024 versions (cutting game resource usage in half). If I were you, I would use the "Full" version. 2b.) An alternative is using Bethesda Performance Textures: Armor/Clothes/Weapons (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/42360/?) and Bethesda Performance Textures - Animals and Creatures (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/43921/?). These mods are designed for the same purpose and were developed specifically for 1GB GPUs. 3.) Use 2K LITE for land and architecture textures as neither of the above two mods cover those. 4.) Focus on textures that are truly important to you. I have 2GB of VRAM, but I'm still VERY stingy with how many textures and texture packs I use. Perhaps look into a mod like IMAGINATOR to give your game an overall improvement. I realize that you probably already know a lot of this, but it may help other beginners that are ill-informed. As an aside, does anyone know if ENBoost may actually hurt those with little VRAM? If I remember correctly, it offsets RAM resources to VRAM. -
What's eating my outdoor fps in this setup?
Breems replied to Firebrand's question in General Skyrim LE Support
If I'm looking at your GPU's specs correctly, it seems that you have 1GB of VRAM. With that setup, I would advise against many of the mods in your list. Are you experiencing outdoor lag only? In my experience, Skyrim Flora Overhaul comes with a huge performance hit (obviously outdoors). My one-time experience with WARZONES also resulted in outdoor lag, but that was dependent upon being near a spawn location. Are the HighResTexturePack ESPs referring to the Official High Resolution Textures? I've never used them, so I'm not sure. If so, I really don't think you can afford to load such expensive textures. I'd stick with mods like 2K LITE, Bethesda Performance Textures, and Hi-Res DLC Optimized (perhaps that's what you have?). -
As far as dual GPU laptops, ENBoost works perfectly if you download the OPTIMUS fix provided by the HiAlgo team. I'm relatively new to the STEP workflow, so I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I believe it would be worthwhile to include that bit of info somewhere in the guide. I know that STEP is not about catering to a wide variety of platform-based needs, but this issue is sparsely documented and is not included in the official ENB/ENBoost documentation or in the ENBoost guide here.

This issue is resolved by adding Mod Organizer to nVidia Control Panel and requiring it to use the dedicated GPU.

SKYRIMLE Extensible Follower Framework (by Expired)
Breems replied to zodden's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I've just downloaded this mod, and I really like the menu system and functionality it has to offer. However, I can't seem to overcome a few annoyances. The magicka/health/stamina overlay is a nice touch but is rather distracting. I can't seem to figure out how to disable it. Is this option available? Also, stats do not show for me in the new "Standard" menu. It simply shows an inventory-like menu with nothing in it. As a side note, are NPCs able to dual cast spells? I've been experimenting with mage followers and tried stripping out all their gear and teaching them spells, but they only want to cast a unique spell on each hand. I don't recall any dual-casting NPCs in the vanilla game, so I'm just confirming that this isn't possible. -
Well, I'm using an Acer Aspire v3-571G, but our problem seems identical. Great idea to test the older version of Mod Organizer. I just re-installed the game and all related tools recently after a few months of not playing and didn't think to check that. Using the older version worked for me as well. I suppose that will work, but I would much rather be able to run the most updated version. I'll report this as a bug on The Bug Genie, so hopefully it will be fixed down the line. The issue is still present when launching TESV.exe through MO, i.e. not using the Launcher. I checked my taskbar while running the game, and the GPU is not active. The sD3DDevice= in SkyrimPrefs.ini does show my Intel HD Integrated Graphics. This shouldn't be a problem since that line is also incorrect when running Skyrim outside MO, but in that case it does use my dedicated GPU. I tried changing that line in the Mod Organizer INI files, but once I launch the game through MO, it seems to ignore it completely.
-
Thanks, but that didn't quite do the trick. I already have the Optimus fix enabled, and I have also set TESV.exe to use the dedicated GPU in the nVidia Control Panel. Like I said, it works perfectly when I run vanilla Skyrim. This issue only arises when running the Skyrim Launcher or Skyrim through Mod Organizer.

I've searched the web/forums far and wide for help in this issue, but I haven't seen a trace of documentation. I'm playing Skyrim on a laptop and thus have dual GPUs (Intel HD Graphics and nVidia GeForce GT 730m). When running Skyrim via MO (either through the launcher or the game .exe), it does not recognize my dedicated GPU (the 730m). If I run the Skyrim Launcher from MO, the only graphics adapter listed in the ComboBox is the Intel HD Graphics 4000 one. I'm fairly confused. The game runs perfectly outside MO and recognizes the dedicated GPU. Solutions I have tried that did not work: Updating/reinstalling graphics driversReinstalling Mod OrganizerRestarting my PC
