  1. I've been using CoT 3.1 and RLO 4.0.7c without an ENB. (All with default settings.). I sort of like the look. Caves have lots of shadows from the lights and some deep shadows in the corners or down ill lit passages but are bright enough to see in for the most part. It's probably not supremely realistic (unless the Dovakhin as amazing night vision) but it is very nice looking and plays well. I'm not sure that I'm up for staring at a virtually pitch black monitor for hours on end - the idea is to have a fun, entertaining game, not ruin my eye site by straining to stare at variations in black. Or at least that's what I'm thinking now.
  2. Interesting point that its not really needed if you don't use hair mods, etc. Â However it is very useful, if not quite required, if you do start using these. Â Given that many if not most people do add such mods, or at least experiment with them, it would be a good idea to at least point out that it should be installed if you add these mods or start experiencing CTDs when using the Race Menu.Â
  3. Even if you don't swap out your clothing and weapons frequently in combat it can be tedious looking through your inventory and to remember to get all the elements of your attire when you want to switch - for example when entering an inn after coming back from the wilderness or when moving into winter weather after being in more temperate areas.
  4. They seem nice but frankly this level of detail will just wash right over me. I suppose there's little downside to using them - providing they do not increase the probability of crashes.
  5. Probably not necessary. You might get a few more crashes and a few things won't work out correctly from time to time. One thing I have started to notice with Neo's list of these, quite a few mode authors have to incorporate these changes - thus you see some of the TES5Edits he recommends get remvoed from time to time.
  6. I've been trying to go the other way and make it even harder to sneak. I like to play sneaky characters, but I also like it to be a challenge to do right. (Not impossible but so that you ave to work at and nit just rely on an amazing sneak skill plus enchantments to breeze by enemies.). I've been trying kryptopyr's Stealth Slills Rebalanced sneak module with ACE plus Duel Combat.
  7. I asked and they said it just adopts whatever skeleton you use. They use a LOT of scripts which might interfere - just a vague hunch. Also it seems that she often I unequips her shield, but even when she does not it stays in her hand.
  8. Congrats - 1,000+ endorsements
  9. BOSS apparently has some trouble with Duel - Combat Realism. From reading the comments it is not identifying the latest version as the latest. I'm not sure if the two ITMs it identifies need to be cleaned - maybe these are carryovers from the previous version.
  10. For 360 Walk and Run Plus do you use the speed patch fix? if the character is turning around rather than back-stepping presumably they should.
  11. "Soul Gems Differ - Full and Empty" 1.5.2 does not seem to have the FOMOD installer anymore. I think I will wait to install this one until the FOMOD installer comes out -unticking page after page of options is a bit tedious.
  12. I played a few hours with the latest version. A couple of odd things - 1. The PC's shield would occasionally (33% of the time maybe) not go on the back but would remain in the left hand. Toggling the PC's shield on back in the MCM would fix this. Unequipping and equipping the shield would often but not always fix it. The shield was always a vanilla hide shield - either plain or upgraded to "fine". 2. When using the Vilja mod, she would never put her shield on her back, it always remained in her left hand if equipped. This was with a vanilla iron shield or the above hide shield. Other NPCs (guards, followers) all behaved correctly as near as I can remember.
  13. Race Menu probably - there's a setting for arm size. Use the cc and see if you can use it to reset it via race menu.
  14. Is it something that is interesting as a novelty or would you use it over a long game? My question s driven by my play style in which in generally just scoop up books rather spend time reading them. Whenever I locate a book it usually seems to be in the midst of some mission I am focused on completing. If this became yet another tedious thing to tab through after the first few uses it might not be worth including. Or maybe I'm just pessimstic and wrong about how it would work out in the long run (or maybe most players do diligently read all those books littering Skyrim's bookshelves).
  15. Yes. I'm not aware of any difference between the two of them. In one sense it's a shame that Kapaer, who figured out how to do this will, see his mod ignored as everyone (myself included) adopts the Race Menu optional for its slightly greater convenience.
  16. I'm unclear which crafting and thief perk system you are referring to here - the creator of Empower Magic or of SkyRe? What mod(s0 contain these changes? If you are not playing a mage, is there really any point to using Empower Magic? i.e. Will it make NPCs (mainly enemy) using magic more interesting?
  17. What do you all think of the most recent version of Quick Save Hard Save (https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34618) as a method for overcoming some of the issues with corrupted quick saves? Is the real issue the corruption that occurs due to continually overwriting files or is there another reason they tend to become corrupted?
  18. I'd be really interested in knowing why you think this. I am thinking about trying SkeRe (maybe with some bits of ASIS thrown in) and would like to know how the game will be different or improved. I've also been a bit intrigued with Skyrim Unleashed. I generally play with Duel Combat Realism and ACE using sneaky lightly armored fighter/archer types (but not much thieving or assassinating as I usually prefer to play a generally morally honest character and not much magic beyond the alchemy and the odd enchanting or restoration - maybe a Ranger type character?) but have wondered if some other configuration of overhauls would give a better experience. Thanks for any light you can shed on this.
  19. Kryptopyr added a new economics mod Trade and Barter (https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/34612) which looks good. It allows you to balance buying and selling through customization of a variety of settings in MCM with minimal active scripting.
  20. Skyrim Revisited No, I will not recommend to add notes about tweaks of ini files. Neo noted his hardware configuration, and everybody have own head on the shoulders:) My own view is that the .ini tweaks in Skyrim Revisited (SR) are a good place to start; but these seem to require more 'personalization' than most of the SR guide. If you are new to this it really helps to have someone say "try this - it's a good place to start". I really like the style of Neo's notes about the Shadow Quality Tweak - where he briefly gives the rationale for what he is doing but also discusses how to alter them to improve performance if necessary. I don't think it's a fair assumption that everyone using this guide will have a good idea exactly what these settings do and how they tradeoff performance for quality. Discussing these issues can really help newer people optimize their setup and learn about what they are doing - it's a huge service.
  21. Some things that people around here pointed out that helped me quite a bit regarding this: DDSOpt your textures (including the Beth/HRDLC ones and the big ones in "Foundation" except WATER), reduce them to 2048, then 1/2 size your normals. If you don't do at least some of this and you run a lot of texture mods you will have CTDs.Do not implement the z-Fighting corrections to your Skyrim and skyrimperfs .ini if you have infinite loading screens.Drop the Skyrim prefers for shadows back down a bit toiShadowMapResolutionPrimary=2048iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=2048
  22. The issue with SkyTest, as I understand it, was stability. (There was never any hint that he misappropriated other people's work AFAIK!) People using it found they had a higher rate of CTDs when they used it compared to when they did not. IIRC correctly there was a fairly lengthy back and forth on Skyrim Revisited where the various commentors came to that conclusion. Most of them quite liked the mod so were disappointed when they realized this. I can't remember if they speculated it was scripts, additional spawn points, textures, some combination of factors or what that led to a much higher rate of CTDs when using them with a somewhat heaviliy modded Skyrim but they did not uncover any fix that would allow them to use the mod. If you go back and search the SR archive (and maybe STEP too) you should find the conversation... unless I've finally gone senile and am hallucinating the whole thing.
