  1. I installed the most recent (2012) C++ Redistributable 32 bit and 64 bit versions of this a while ago, but I was still unable to make BSAopt the default program for BSAs. Did you also have to install previous versions of these?
  2. Nexus has an explanation for the problem on the front page. Some of their servers were hacked and for a short time period before it was fixed these servers were pushing a file with a virus.
  3. As long as you don't use any SKSE plugins that depend on the Skyrim version (e.g., Nitpick and Fuz Ro Doh) there don't seem to be problems.
  4. I tried to make BSAopt be the default program for BSAs but Windows won't allow me to do this. I am able to make DDSopt be the default program. I haven't done any detailed searches to find why this happens and how to fix it.
  5. The last post on the TES5Gecko forum on DarkCreations was in November, so it will unfortunately be quite a while before this has anything like the capability that TES4Gecko provided. Wrye Bash also seems to be moving slowly as it doesn't have as many developers as it had when the Oblivion version was being evolved and Wrye was heavily involved. TES5Edit provides more capability than the version available for Oblivion, but since Skyrim has scripts it is still challenging to manually combine or patch complex mods.
  6. I got the same result; Microsoft Security Essentials said the file is a virus.
  7. When I ran BSAopt 2.0 on Skyrim - Animations.bsa the result for me was 39,228 KB. I can't read any of the text on your screenshot; the image I get from the url is much too small for that. I have default settings in BSAopt with compression at 10 (maximum), and Settings with 5 checks (none on skip hash-check or skip broken files). Game is on Automatic. You can also use DDSopt to process BSAs, so try that and see what results. The file sizes should very close to the same.
  8. I'll fix the wording in the guide to make this clearer (or you can if you get to it before I do, or if the wording isn't clear). The BSAs referenced in step 8 are just the vanilla texture BSAs (Skyrim - textures and 3 HRDLC) and the addon DLC BSAs. As mishmash mentions, leave the others where they are. There is some optimization that can be done with these other BSAs as discussed in the BSA Extraction and Optimization guide as mishmash also mentions, but that's a separate issue.
  9. It's definitely a useful mod and WilliamImm has done a lot in short time to get this working. At some point I'd like to request a version that has a single esp with the basic mod plus the additional patches for all the STEP mods, if the group thinks this makes sense.
  10. Sounds like a very useful addition (although it does add yet another esp).
  11. I still like EZ2C Dialogue Menu - configurable - better navigation and control vs. InterfaceMod - Better Dialogue because of the configurability, but they each have their advantages.
  12. 7zip received Tom's Hardware Elite award in this review. There is some useful discussion about the different compression options and formats. We have been recommending 7zip compression with the non-solid option (larger file but easier changes after initial compression) and LZMA2 (since it uses all available CPU cores and, if available, hyperthreading).
  13. I made a number of small changes in the DDSopt and Texture Overhaul guide based on recent comments and questions. I moved the "Quickstart" tab near the front. The "Normal Map and VRAM Usage" tab is expanded and is now after the STEP mod tables; it includes musicdemon's screenshots and benchmark results. The tables were updated to include all STEP 2.2.3 mods.
  14. If this is the first time using DDSopt you might find this section of the DDSopt and Texture Overhaul guide useful
  15. I find the new effects icons very useful since my character uses a lot of magic buffs and with the new GUID element I know when they are running out. Of course, a magic system where buffs disappear quickly is a little strange but ..
  16. Step 4 of "Optimizing the Textures" in the DDSopt_and Texture Overhaul guide covers handling the .png files in the various BSAs. Step 6 is doing the actual processing of textures. It's a good idea the first time using DDSopt to read the Texture Optimization Quickstart tab since it has a roadmap to all of the actual steps you need to follow for initial use of DDSopt.Â
  17. Even though you turned off auto updates, if you run the Skyrim Launcher (vs. the SKSE launcher or ATTK launcher) you will get Skyrim 1.9 installed by Steam, so be careful not run the Skyrim Launcher.
  18. TES5Edit version 3.0.29 came out today and the Nexus description says it works only with Skyrim 1.8Â . However, the official TES5Edit thread says that it can be used with Skyrim 1.9 .
  19. On my system the keyboard media controls already work in Skyrim; of course I'm not sure whether this is from another mod that doesn't mention this or if it would be true even if I had just Vanilla Skyrim installed.
  20. I personally like the flexibility, and I'm willing to tolerate the associated complexity, of Soul Gems Differ. However, I expect most people would prefer a simpler approach such as what this mod provides. I happen to like having at least some of the soul gems be transparent, but again most people don't seem to prefer this.
  21. The batch file has a pause. You can see whether the assignment commands worked in the print of commands prior to the pause in the command window. If there are no problems, continue. Otherwise abort and fix the assignments.
  22. ... and crashes when spell effects and dragon attacks cause a rapid increase in VRAM need.
  23. I looked at WB and I don't seem to have this problem with my game. I have no idea what is causing this problem with your WB.
