  1. +1 to that. Wrye Bash for managing mods, Mod Organiser for downloading mods. I kind of wish WB implemented a feature to allow Nexus downloads.
  2. A slightly unfair comparison if you ask me. CoT isn't supposed to change the look of the vanilla game, but rather enhance upon it. CoT is all about the weather, additional visuals and creating actual regional climates in Skyrim. You've also used settings that aren't really comparable, default CoT is hardly a lighting mod (if you don't use additional plugins). Using vanilla settings, you've pretty much compared the vanilla game to RLWC. Forgetting that the core recommendation of STEP is CoT + CoT compatible ENB.
  3. You can always test the alpha if you want, another update has just been released.
  4. Weird, I thought it was already in STEP 2.2.0a?
  5. STEP isn't a compilation of popular mods. No offense, but I think you're not quite understanding the mission of this project. The reasons for excluding this mod from STEP are valid and within the specified guidelines. If you still feel like using the mod, then by all means do so, nobody will punish you for that. But it won't find its way into STEP until certain issues are fixed or the core team changes their mind (which is unlikely, considering the issue here).
  6. Or if you unpack, optimise and repack them as loose files manually.
  7. You really should start using the "Search" function of the forum. Also, Mod Suggestions isn't a subforum for troubleshooting your Skyrim install.
  8. I think you'll find a lot of these mods already being discussed on this forum and with flags to be implemented in future STEP releases.
  9. .121 will be out in no time.
  10. I'd say broken match-making, lack of actual teamwork if you don't have a proper team, mediocre graphics, steep learning curve, trial vs custom mechs, to name a few culprits of the beta. The pay-to-play system doesn't appeal to me either.
  11. I didn't like MO that much, but spent a fair amount of hours testing it anyway. Not but compared to Hawken, which just seemed too fast paced for a mech sim.
  12. I think you should ask this question on the mod manager's page, not here.
  13. You could assume they haven't gotten to install STEP yet? Not to mention that probably half of the STEP users reads only the mod lists, which should be enough to get any half-experienced modder going anyway. Anyway, there aren't any game breaking bugs introduced in 1.8, only a few non-essential mods are incompatible so I'd say go ahead and install the update to anyone, but make sure to use Skyrim Unplugged next time before you're ready to update. But then again, these people would not ask how to revert to previous patch if that was the case...
  14. That's the one I had in mind.
  15. I swear I saw a similar mod before (Nordic Shields?), but this does look very nice indeed. Needs testing though.
  16. I was wondering about this as well.
  17. Nexus sucks for that and a few other reasons. Perhaps you could try uploading it to TES Alliance or even Steam Workshop (even though I dislike the latter, it could prove an easier solution).
  18. Thanks for the advice mate, I've been doing it wrong the whole time. Do your textures need DDSopt optimisation at all?
  19. Actually 40 mods, excluding Parallax mods (which not everyone uses) and the "big three" (SRO, HD2K and SHD). Personally, I like your textures better than the other two, but I don't like the vanilla textures enough to not replace them with something else. Although it might be a good idea to just use SRO and exclude HD2K and SHD since they obviously aren't the same quality, but arguably, they are still an improvement over vanilla textures. HD2K and SHD textures have better quality, but not artistically. Textures are not designed. You can not simply download a photo and throw it into the game. That's not an improvement. Of course some people don't care about this. But if you want to be a moder, to create mods, this is essential. I agree with you, for the most part. I actually don't use SHD and only some textures from HD2K, but the TPC simpilified the compilation process for me and it's easier to just throw in all the smaller mods there and let it merge them into a simple archive. Much easier for me to see the conflicts too. I'll take your advice and remove most of the obsolete mods, see if I like the more vanilla-like game better. It should save some VRAM too, after optimising the HD-DLC. I think you'd find that most of the Optional Mods in TPC are still a huge improvement over vanilla game textures (even the HD-DLC pack), and therefore using TPC to combine them can still be a good idea.
  20. He already mentioned SMIM, Flora Overhaul and WATER.
  21. Wait, are you sure you've started the game after recreating the ini files? It usually takes playing the game to reorganise the INI files and filling in the blanks properly. I always use a preset too, to make sure the correct changes are applied. Say compare Ultra or High presets with both versions of the game, just to be sure.
  22. Is that a recommendation over RCRN 3.5 or just a suggestion for those that like RLwC more?
