Red box (exclamation point)

Hello.  Thank you for the guide. I have gone through it in its entirety. 

 

It plays really well, but I have red boxes with white exclamation points in the center of the "Powder Gangers" to the southeast of Goodsprings near the start.  So does this mean a texture/mesh is missing?  Does anyone have any idea on what it could be or what I might have done to mess them up?  I am a total newb at the game as I am just starting out.

Probably the Bashed Patch. Make sure you are using BOSS to get all the proper tags, LOOT doesn't seem to use all of them yet. Then make sure that all the mods are checked for every category in the bashed patch that has mods listed.

Can be moved to optional ESPs with MO. None of them are needed, except for the ILO - GS Shack, which is a matter of preference.

Cannot recommend this mod because of a bug that prevents you from going to the DLCs because betsy cannot be dismissed properly. YUP will have a fix for this soon I hope.

Not sure what that is or where it came from, but it should be deleted.

 

You can look through the guide for directions to move those plugins to the Optional ESPs.

 

One last thing to do in Wrye Flash, click on the Right to Bear Arms plugin, then in the bottom right wear the Bash Tags are listed, right click->Delev. Adding that tag may help out with Powder Gangers.

I really tried sticking with Wyre Flash and FOMM while avoiding MO.  Now that is likely why I am having this issue right now, so yeah likely my fault.  So when you say "can move to optional ESPs" does this just mean deactivating these plugins in Wyre Flash since they are optional and not recommended? Or can this literally only be done in MO?  I assume the former.

You really really really need to move to Mod Organizer.

 

With that said, I think you can accomplish the same thing in Wrye Flash by just deactivating those plugins. However, I'm not an expert on Wrye Flash so don't take my word for it.

 

Again, use Mod Organizer. Doesn't matter what reservations you have about it, or if you've read of 'problems' with it, or you're just 'more familiar with other mod managers'. Use it!

You can deactivate the plugins with Wrye Flash by using the installers tab. Click the mod and all the plugins show up on the right side. Just tick the ones you need and untick the ones you don't.

 

The red exclamations come from installing a mod not compatible with Wrye Flash. It was probably some fomod that Wrye tried to install and a file or two got skipped. If a mod has a fomod then installing with it with FOMM is probably necessary regardless if the guide said to do it explicitly. If you feel comfortable with Wrye Flash then you can use it, but it is something I usually need to know up front so I can help based on the mod manager. I'm actually very fluent in the Way of the Wrye as well as Mod Organizer, so I can probably answer any questions.

I used to be the same way, I switched to MO a few months ago & regret that I didn't do it earlier. Literally every reason I had for sticking with Wrye wasn't a problem after switching to MO, you can even launch Wrye from within MO and access all of its functions except the installer. Any effort you put into switching over to MO will be paid back plus from the better organizer, and there's plenty of support here.

Can be moved to optional ESPs with MO. None of them are needed, except for the ILO - GS Shack, which is a matter of preference.

Cannot recommend this mod because of a bug that prevents you from going to the DLCs because betsy cannot be dismissed properly. YUP will have a fix for this soon I hope.

Not sure what that is or where it came from, but it should be deleted.

 

You can look through the guide for directions to move those plugins to the Optional ESPs.

 

One last thing to do in Wrye Flash, click on the Right to Bear Arms plugin, then in the bottom right wear the Bash Tags are listed, right click->Delev. Adding that tag may help out with Powder Gangers.

Okay so I believe i fixed all the above issues you mentioned, plus made the bash tag delev suggestion.  Now in regards to the red box exclamation points, I went into the game and reloaded the save and they were still there on the powder npcs.  However, I was curious about starting a new game to see if it would still be an issue.  I went and tracked them down (maybe the same area, not sure) and I dont see the red boxes on them anymore.  So now I am wondering if it is just because the npcs were given different leveled items (probably) and where to go from here. hmmmm.  maybe I need to look more at all my mods to see if they had a fomm, but didnt "require" it to be used, and then install it that way, instead of in Flash, which I might have done.

Actually, the save is what is the problem. You'd have to either reset the NPC's inventory or I think go to a different cell on the other side of the map wait 30 days or something and it might reset on its own. I think you can change the time with the console by typing 'set timescale to 2000'. That will make time fly by at 2000 game seconds for every real second. then just wait for 30 sunrises and return the timescale to default of 30 and go see if they reset their inventories.

By the way tcl console command doesnt even help.

 

edit: DUH, i checked fnvedit and it looks the like the mod being used in the shack is ILO...and I had to reenable Interior Lighting Overhaul - Ultimate Edition.esp that I had gotten rid of a few days ago to fix it.
