Requiem Pack (WIP)

Building such patches is a long and complex process. It is important to learn how BUT there are many many users who are not confident enough with the tools and or do not have the time or inclination to learn in enough detail. Of course there are many who just find using software in this way very difficult.Recommended load orders are not perfect but do get people started with something that works. It is not enough to assume that because you find something straight forward that everyone else will also follow your reasoning however correct the ideas behind it might be.Modding Skyrim is a lot of hard work but the purpose of development is to simplify and that is also hard work and the job of good teachers everywhere.A guide of sorts to suggest what type of records to look for when building a "super" patch for a Requiem build would be very useful. For example looking at conflicts where Requiem is the loser, if it is a file that changes an NPC's looks then said mod should win but if it is a file where stats or perks are changed then patching will be necessary so that added equipment or NPC is not underpowered and therefore not fit for purpose. Other choices may not be as black and white. Though there is plenty of literature out there Requiem changes so much in the game that it is it's own specialist subject. Such a guide however briefly done would be a godsend to users that do not have the aptitude or confidence to just build a patch. All the best, ::):

I like how the discussion developes here. Hope this leads to a consensus where the STEP forum can profit from the dialogue and shared knowledge.

Count myself to the group Smile44 is talking about: to inexperianced and not much time to spent on learning programm languages. But I if I think back a month ago I had no idea about modding Skyrim, now I know a bit. And I'm still eager to learn, so whats next... superpatches for my load order... where is the guide ? :;):

I know a lot of work to get right a lot of detail just looking at the scope of Requiem in the Reddedit page is mind boggling. But this will be well worth doing and combined with Azirok's efforts in a similar line (no ETA) should be a boon to all of us.

If you want any feedback or help let me know.

P.S. Or I could just cheer you on "Go fireundubh, Go fireundubh"...

Well, "patching" a mod like Helgen Reborn to work with Requiem is a bit different than creating a compatibility patch.

When you add new NPCs, for example, you need to add Requiem's perks to those NPCs and adjust their stats, but that isn't straightforward. In fact, that doesn't really qualify as patching either. What Azirok is doing with his Helgen Reborn "patch" is creating a version of Helgen Reborn specifically for Requiem. That means handcrafting the balance of Helgen Reborn for Requiem and you can't do that unless you really, really know Requiem and you're a really good judge of balance. That's art, basically. You can't teach how to be a great artist.

My guide is about how to use an advanced workflow to ensure that everything that should work works.

In the guide, we'll explore how to deal with overriding records (i.e., conflicts), among other things, but we won't be adapting unique records to fit Requiem or any other mod.

Posted

Azirok is putting some mod-packs together and producing a guide on how to get it all working together including merging plugins. In that way it is similar to a guide showing how to produce a compatibility patch with Requiem for a users load order working with LOOT. Both of which will be very helpful to the community though not the same thing.

Producing a mod patch for Requiem is entirely different from a conflict patch, that should be clear and obvious to all. Conflict patches are relatively simple to execute but can be long winded depending on the mods used or conflicts.

Where confusion arises is in making the decisions about which conflicts need to be or should be carried forward to a conflict patch. So alongside a 'how to' there needs to be a 'why' including an example or two to illustrate these ideas. This will empower users to build their own compatibility patches when working with Requiem.

Such a guide could become part of or at least be linked to from the Requiem Pack page, which I am going to have to reformat and change a lot in the near future anyway due to pack changes being discussed and the diligent work of others such as Azirok.

Anyway off on a boat trip now so "Ahoy Jim lad" and all that.

Based on your load order, I can tell that you're either manually re-sorting Requiem and related mods/patches or you've interfered with LOOT by changing the metadata.

You really should let LOOT do its thing and not mess with the metadata unless you absolutely know you have to do so.

LOOT is not BOSS. Under most circumstances, you don't need to place controls on how it works.

This is what a LOOT load order looks like.

I tried to make a small T5E guide on how to resolve basic conflicts, but the language barrier made it relatively difficult for me. Also while I usually don't have a problem holding a lecture in front of people, just talking into the microphone was really weired for me.

Using T5E is really really useful when extensively modding your Skyrim, imho it is the most important Skyrim tool (rivaled by the bahsed patch though). After looking at quite some mods I found that even experienced modders sometimes make mistakes. There really is no need to be shy of T5E. You will likely see certain basic conflicts in your load order when you fire it up. Once you get a little used to the tool there are are some really self explaining subrecords you can easily fix yourself.

This video is a good start to see what I mean. If you already know the basics of load order, the part relevant for conflicts start at 12:00. At 16:35 you see exactly the most common kind of conflict if installing Requiem with STEP. He explains it only briefly but I hope it helps. What Gopher calls "value" is also called subrecord by some people (like me).

Most Requiem conflicts are not very difficult to resolve. Most of them are just texture conflicts, where the othermod.esp record simply changes one subrecord pointing to a different texture path while the requiem.esp record does other, unrelated changes. In those cases simply right click on the requiem column (right at the top) -> copy as override into -> scroll down to new file (or the file you created last time you did this). You might get a warning that you are editing files, since you choose a new file or your custom file don't worry and click "yes I'm sure". After doing this, you can just drag and drop the texture path into the new column you created from the override (whatever you named it). T5E should display every column as green/grey now. When you exit T5E it explicitly asks you which esp files to save. So if you misclicked or something strange happened simply deselect the esp files you don't want changed.

My Requiem - Animated Weapon Enchants patch is a good and simple example. To see what I did just start Requiem and Animated Weapon Enchants only (on the T5E startup menu you can right click to deselect all, remember that T5E requires all masters to be loaded). If you then load the patch in addition you will see how things changed.

Many subrecords in T5E are fairly self-explaining. There are some though that are more complex like keywords which are usually required for scripts and perks, patching them may have undesired consequences. Perk and quest records are also more advanced and require some CS knowledge to successfully patch without breaking anything. When in doubt about a record, better ask someone first.

Hope this helps ::):

Damn, you're right.

It's good I have posted it here. I have forgotten that I have changed the metarule for Requiem in my last profile weeks ago and duplicated it for this one. Have to delete them and let reorder LOOT again. Thanks for pointing me at that...

Did a Helgen run trough with the Script to unlevel the levelled list and.. it was too easy, the game was fine without that script.. it seems it mixed the levelled lists or something..

also had a problem with a unusually huge pack of wolves at the exit.. i think this is because of SkyTEST..

The bashed patch merges the leveled lists. The script has nothing to do with that.

The leveled lists aren't supposed to be leveled in Requiem. Requiem is an unleveled overhaul. The script only unlevels the already merged leveled lists. That's all.

It's possible that you've installed mods that add items that aren't balanced for Requiem, in which case I blame you.

Also pretty sure there's nothing difficult about Helgen with or without Requiem.

So the script is solid? nothing wrong with it?

Without it i have to use way more arrows to kill guards.. that is why i meant "easier"..

Nothing wrong with the script. Nothing to do with arrow damage.
