rootsrat Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/49294/ Fairly new addition to Nexus. An interesting take on player death. There are quite a few mods that change how death works in game to increase immersion, but this one takes slightly different approach: Death Souls adds a costly method to avoid death that is unique to Dovahkiin; Dragon souls can be used to revive the player. It also enhances the death animations, whether you have dragon souls or not. Upon 'death' the player will stagger and crouch. Following this a menu will appear displaying the number of dragon souls the player has and asking if the would like to revive or succumb. If revive is chosen a dragon soul is lost and the player pushes them self off the ground, ready to reengage in combat. During this time the player will be surrounded by 'dragon soul wind'. If succumb is chosen, the player's arms give out and they fall to their chest. So it kind of gives you "another chance" without any of the complicated stuff that the other mods of this knid offer (knocking you unconcious, removing your gear etc...). I really like this simple idea, it sounds plausible! The author also states:If you are worrying about scripts and performance, I can assure you there is no hit to performance whatsoever. The script is entirely optimized and event based, meaning it only runs when the player dies, so you don't have to worry!
torminater Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 It's the most "realistic" manner of implementing the inimmediate death in to the game. Miraak absorbs/uses dragon souls to replenish his powers completely. Just one suggestion: The MCM menu option to activate the features of the mod only when the player already defeated Miraak. -> gonna write that on the nexus as well. I'ld actually consider this a possible addition for a hardcore pack, since it's pretty lore-friendly plus hell yes, you do need some help out there if you're using a ton of hardcore mods and want to play a solo guy without immortal companions.
deathneko11 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I can agree with this. me personally my mod setup is so masochistic it's unreal. I play on a difficult that is WAY beyond insane and even with dragons spawning every day in my game, my deaths number quite a few times more than my daily collection of dragon souls.
Dshoru Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I like torminaters idea of this being in a hardcore pack as an optional choice =)
