I have actually tested this most pretty thoroughly. Some of the voices are pretty good. On the other hand some are not so great. There are also many conflicts with lighting mods, but most importantly the sound mods (which STEP is going to add in the next update). I have resolved this by putting this mod in the load order above the sound/lighting mods even if it is not recommended by boss. I have had no issue and it resolves most conflicts.

Another problem with the mod is that the NPCS tend to get tedious. Many of them have a lot of dialogue. It takes some time to get through it all. Many tell you their entire life story no matter what. This is pretty fun at the start, but it does end up becoming tedious later on. The newer npcs and quests that are being added seem to be addressing this issue a bit. That is good news.

The pluses are that I really love the npcs and characters it adds to the game. It adds quite a lot actually! A lot of the inns even have 2 more npcs floating around. Many of them are quite indeed very interesting to talk to at first. It is a mod that I would not consider uninstalling very easily. Adds that much to the game for me :)

How about the quests, Eliian? Would you actually be able to do a full review? The size of this mod is massive and it certainly adds a lot of content...

I have only been able to successfully complete a few quests. I will be trying to do more. One of them I did was pretty good. Not to spoil too much, but this Breton in the Solitude catacombs is very creepy. I did enjoy it. There is also a couple around the Markarth area that are sort of funny. Sitting around drinking Skooma and telling you of their hallucinations. :P Another one sort of felt like a fetch quest unfortunately. I am thinking in the same way that the voice quality and npcs differ so will the quests.

I have used this mod quite a bit a few months back, but never really did the quests. There weren't too many of them then. There were also lot of comments on broken quests, etc. Of course it's the people who have issues that write comments so there is a bit of selection bias here. I wonder how the quests have evolved in the last few months - there seems to be lots of work on this mod.

There are broken quests because almost all of them are Alpha or Beta. The main file throws in everything they're doing, finished or not. There is an optional update to restrict the mod to voiced NPCs only, which also removes the Alpha and Beta quests. It states it's for 2.42, but as far as I can tell it's still the right file for 2.43.x.

According to the readmes there's still a few silent sections left even with this file where an NPC is voiced, but some lines have had their VO removed while it's re-recorded or something.

I just can't get past the voice acting, try though I might. It's so variable: some are stunning - infinitely better than vanilla - while most are on par with base Skyrim. But every so often, a character pitches up in-game with terrible dialogue acting and poor quality audio, and it throws the whole mod for me.

Well its not like they were paid for their VA by all means if you wish to spend $1000's of dollars hiring voice actors do it. I on the other hand love it though some NPCs can use some work. Feel free to pitch in. :) Better than the Vanilla Oh, Hi there, Its a nice day with you around. Or You don't get to the could district often do you? Oh of course you don't what am I saying. All I'm saying is at least they tried and its not all silent dialog. This is all community driven and not payed for.

All respect and gratitude to the modders and VA's for their efforts, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't feel free to criticise.  To the end users, and the people to whom we're making recommendations, it's the quality of the finished product that matters.  STEP would get pretty difficult if we held back criticism based on an appreciation of sheer effort.

I'm loving this mod. The VO is definately variable, but the little stories behind each NPC are so well written. I'd love to see this writing team picked up by Bethesda, because they're sure as hell better than whoever is doing it now.

Also, if you downloaded the 2.43.2 file via the torrent then you're missing a file and will find NPCs forget that they've spoken to you. The author provided the missing file to fix this:

The other thing Skyrim lacks is immersive chat options but I don't see that happening. By immersive chat options I mean things like I'm the Arch Mage of Winterhold and you're talking to me like I'm a two year old... da fuq?

I wish Bethesda would focus a little more on the NPCs. So many characters in the game tell you stories of their adventuring parties, but you can't do anything like that yourself because there's absolutely no depth to anyone in the world. I'd like a small number of potential followers, but who have a lot to say and grow me with over the course of our adventure.

I'm hoping the super NPCs in Interesting NPCs are more like that.

Ah, just saw this. It wasn't my intention to discredit the work that's gone in here - as I say, a lot of the voice work was incredibly good and I can't even fathom the amount of manhours put into the mod. But the purpose of this forum is to give feedback and criticism, so I did. I'd never discredit the whole mod, which is a pretty incredible achievement.

All I'm saying is that, as a user, a few of the voice actors just didn't measure up. Only one or two, but issues with recording quality, tone and enunciation simply mean that I think those lines should have been re-recorded or not used. It's quality assurance and it's done whether an individual is paid or not. I will not, however, name which characters I'm referring too because I do respect the voluntary nature of the work and I definitely don't want to disparage those who took the time to do it.

I think you should leave detailed feedback on the mod's page, since there's always room for an improvement and I'm sure they'd appreciate an honest opinion. Just be polite and specific, good criticism can go a long way.
