Remember guys: Tamriel != Earth. If you want to show that nail polish or cosmetics are lore-friendly then find evidence in the lore itself. Saying that we used nail polish several thousand (or hundred) years ago doesn't prove anything about whether or not they did.

This isn't my kind of mod, but I could find it perfectly believable for the nail polish to exist. The mod certainly has it's place in the community. I could imagine seeing some very important females in game having the nail polish and I wouldn't find that out of place. So it may not be a STEP mod (if only because it requires body replacers) but it's still a good mod.

@Magistrate I think you should tone down the colors a bit. I feel as if a duller color would benefit the game more so than the vibrant colors you have now.

@Farlo: Is there a universally acknowledged lore repository online?

@Korentin: You got a point definitely.

@Spiffyman: I was infact thinking of adding another set of colors to the existing ones.

I don't understand how you think coloured nails should be a lore-friendly thing in Skyrim either. I can't imagine any medieval Scandinavians painting their nails to look pretty' date=' not to mention that it looks ridiculous in game.[/quote']

But surely they where fighting undead, dragons, giants, throwing fireballs, drinking all kinds of potions that can heal you or make you resistant to elements etc.

The Skyrim setting may be based on and inspired by Medieval Scandinavia but that's about it. It's still a fantasy world.

And considering you can have all kinds of Eye Shadow or Lip colors, (Rouge, can't remember if this one is possible) in Skyrim, painting your nails shouldn't be lore breaking at all.

Maybe you should make a pack specifically for this kind of mod called the Beauty/Appearance Pack. I don't think it's necessary for a lore friendly Skyrim but others may enjoy this kind of customization.

Both of what you named Rouge, eye shadow, and Lip colors were Common make up techniques during Medieval Scandainavia, Nail painting WAS Possible, it just wasn't USED that often due to women back then not giving a **** about Nails, and more caring for a pale face look.

agreeing that body mods and bouncing boobs are not overly lore friendly or needed in a game that is being kept as much like vanilla as possible. That said ... I bet it wouldn't hurt anyones feelings if a few of the STEP crew took it upon themselves to help people who do use these non-vanilla mods. They need help with load orders and compatibility. Think back to morrowind and oblivion. What people have done and are doing is rather obvious. I don't really know of course but I would be willing to make a small wager that the first mod made was an attempt to remove clothing from females. I admit I was pondering this subject and have come to the conclusion that almost everyone wants to make their character more attractive, then followers, then npcs. Slippery slope of non-ending mod testing resulting in very little actual play time. Maybe STEP could put together a team interested in helping EVERYONE play more and test mods less. See which adult mods are the most popular and figure out how to get them working in a stable game. Masses would flock to that website. I have a sneaking suspicion that there really isn't anyone who can truthfully say they do not like bouncing boobies.

Teams can form up or individual users can do this on the mod's thread like this one. STEP is a small team when it comes down to the nitty-gritty stuff like mod testing, load orders, and getting releases out the door (this is mainly all done by 2-6 STEP staff members...testing is about the only aspect that the community gets involved in and that's only testing for STEP-included mods). We honestly do not have the time. STEP is suppose to be community driven so if members of the community want to step up and do such things, they are more than welcome to do so!   Create mod pages, test mods, make Packs, help with load orders...all these things can be done by normal members.

What an entertaining thread! Nail painting is ancient, for sure, and in places like Rome it was the men as much as and sometimes more than the women doing it. Considering how visible one's hands are, it's a great way to display your status, as someone else pointed out. The thing about nail polish though is that as soon as you actually use your hands for any practical application it starts chipping and looks like crap, which is exactly why it was a status symbol- only the very wealthy and important have the ability to do absolutely no manual labor and thus maintain their perfect nails. Which is why it doesn't make sense for me, personally, to see it in Skyrim- a land full of chopping wood and hard living. OK maybe Nazeem should have painted nails, lol. Not a fan of makeup in Skyrim for the same reason. Then again, as someone else pointed out Tamriel is not Earth so maybe the ladies of Skyrim just magic on their makeup and it stays forever!

As for the bouncing boobies, john7, I think I can truthfully say I don't like them anymore than you would like watching male characters repeatedly getting kicked in the ..... throughout your game- you would spend all your time cringing in the knowledge of how much having to endure that repeated pain would suck!

John, not everyone likes bouncing breasts.  It looks painful (as aaltair mentions), not to mention completely ridiculous and unrealistic in the context of 1) a harsh winter climate or 2) any type of combat or other demanding physical activity.  If you want to put the time into supporting such things, that's your prerogative, but certainly don't expect it to be universally appealing.

The only 'adult' mods I'll help anyone with is body replacers and (a big maybe) maybe skimpier armours. If you want to use the more adult type of mods (ie sexlab etc) there's a whole community that's more directed towards that. You could check out LoversLab for that kind of thing.

I'll use very subtle makeup on my female characters, like eyeliners, more to bring out the eyes than anything else. But never over the top. My female characters also tend to be smaller, not petite as such but certainly not the heavy heaving chest types. (Aside from the female Orc, but she's also built like a brick house and swings a double handed sword or dual axes. Makes sense she'd be a little bigger)...
