Which mods break with Climates of Tamriel?
youtoo replied to Quitch's question in General Skyrim LE Support
if i want to add CoT to step, where would I put this in the install order? I see I need a compatibility patch to make this work with minty lightning. how come CoT was not included in STEP? I saw an old STEP guide that said it would not be updated because there is too much time. -
I added both of these to STEP. They showed no conflicts. When going to Whiterun stable,  I would CTD. I turned off OBIS. Problem solved. When I got there, there was a dark hound attack (probably from Immserive Creatures). My best guess is that both OBIS and Immersive creatures were setting up a raid. when I look in my papyrus logs, I dont get anything valuable: [spoilers] [None]._WetUpdate.RegisterForSingleUpdate() - "" Line ? [None]._WetUpdate.OnLocationChange() - "_wetupdate.psc" Line ? [07/19/2013 - 08:56:33PM] VM is freezing... [07/19/2013 - 08:56:33PM] VM is frozen [07/19/2013 - 08:56:34PM] Saving game... [ (000DC550)].lvlpredatorscript.OnCellLoad() - "LvlPredatorScript.psc" Line 26 When I looked up the LvLPredator.psc, I saw that this was a common error and doesn't really mean anything. A nexus forum post thought that Skyrim may have been doing too much and this caused the crash. Any suggestions on this? SHould I use the TES5Edit merge script to merge Immersive Creatures and OBIS? Add them to a bash patch? I have another post where the mod author said that Immersive Creatures and High Level Enemies should both be added to the same bash patch. I am not sure when to use a TES5Edit merge or a bash patch.Â
-
I am  using Immersive Creatures with STEP. I read the nexus mod 'high level enemies'. it says that this is compatible with Immserive Creatures if I make a bash tag and says to add the 'relev' tag. How do I do this? I usually run BOSS and I believe this creates bash tags, then I run wrye bash (from with in MO) and rebuild patch. I dont do any other changes. the nexus page doesn't say, but do I add 'relev' tags to both mods and then do rebuild patch? How does this work?Â

https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB#tab=ENB_Choices For skyrealism, it says to copy the files to the Skyrim 'root' directory and not the /data directory. Does this mean we manually install this and not use Mod Organizer?
-
where are you guys on STEP 2.3?
-
it would be very nice if there was a way for tes5edit to generate a report that tells you all of your conflicts. generate it to a file a file in a nice table structure. so you can get 1 big picture look at everything. right now, it looks like people have to manually look at every new mod. does anyone know why you cant search by .esp for a new mod? If I add my 91st mod and run BOSS first, it will re-order the .esp. its a pain to locate it in the drop list.

SKYRIMLE Use both Xbox 360 controller AND Keyboard SIMULTANEOUSLY
youtoo replied to youtoo's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
in the mod configurator, it has it mapped to 'esc'. you can change it. however, with an xbox controller, i dont have enough buttons. so i need both keyboard and xbox controller. -
@michaelrw thanks, but I have a few more questions. 1. STEP says has me create a bash patch at the very end. When I create this bash patch, the .esp file shows up on 'data' tab at the bottom. So I also need to highlight my overwrite on the left and move the bash patch out each time I rebuild it? I have not been doing that. I did not see it in the guide. How do I move a file out of my overwrite, When I click on overwrite, I get a popup, but did not see the ability to drag and drop. I though the a bash patch was just a .esp and that appears in the 'data' tab which I believe is the load order. I didnt know I needed to do anything in the install directory. I launch Wrye Bash from MO. 2. If I use different directories for different profiles, do I need to change the MO .ini file each time I change folders to point at the new directory or is there a way to configure my profile to point at a new location? I dont see that. 3. is it possible to rename my bash patch to anything other than bash patch 1.esp such as bash patch_STEP.esp or will doing that make wrye bash not recognize it? 4. i saw some references that if I run wrye bash from with in MO, I need to change some settings so it doesn't do stuff I dont want. Do you know what those are? I cant find them. At the time I read this I did not understand what it meant. 5. do you ever add additional mods to a bash patch other than what you get when you run BOSS to get the Bash tags and then the bash patch handles automatically?

look at windows 7 'soft links' also called 'junctions' or 'symbolic links' These require command line to use. They have been in unix for decades and I use them at work. It basically lets you set an alias on a directory or file to point to a new location. to save space on your SSD, you can make put you can make Windows 7 think that you program files (and program files x86) is on another hard drive. Requires one time set up. Basically your Program files directory will be a pointer to a new location. So everytime you do an install windows will still look at your C:\Program Files directory, but all that will be on your SSD will be a pointer to another drive. It works just fine. you can always remove the soft link if you have an issue with your extra hard drive. this saves massive amount of space. you dont really need Microsoft Office, etc.. on your SSD. Be careful with these. dont make too many or you will forget what you did. I have used these in unix for years. https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/ There are alot of sources on how to do this.

Not sure if this is the proper forum. Does anyone know of a mod(s) that do the following: 1. allow me to turn on NPC names above the NPCs 2. Allow me to tell have NPC names or the npcs look differently to identify if they are merchants and will buy stuff 3. allow me to identify from afar if they will train me. 4. allow me to tell mobs on my side from hostiles. With some mods (like OBIS) you get raids on towns. so your in big fights with guards on your side. its a real hassle (and often difficult) to keep from hitting mods on your side which causes issues. Id also like a mod that you give me a popup if im hitting a non-hostile, that i can enable and disable in spots. Another map mod overhaul I dont like the auto-mapper. all the houses look the same. Nothing differentiates them. It does not handle mult-level areas well. I find it a hassle when im in town to run my mouse over areas to get area names to pop up to find what im looking for. Id also like the ability to add my markers (to say X is here) as well. any mods like these?

SKYRIMLE OBIS - Organized Bandits In Skyrim (by Indigoblade)
youtoo replied to Zeran's topic in Skyrim LE Mods

SKYRIMLE Use both Xbox 360 controller AND Keyboard SIMULTANEOUSLY
youtoo posted a topic in Skyrim LE Mods
https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/30913/? you dont install this. you run it and then run the game. I like to play with an xbox controller. It lets me sit back from my pc (I like to plug the pc into my 50 inch HD tv to play), however, conventient horses requires the 'esc' key also and there are not any more keys on the xbox to map to. If you use Frostfall you have more keys that you need. Plus with skyui you can set favorites so you can change magic easier. downside to mod: it makes a really loud annoying noise when you run it. you have to disable that really loud annoying noise each time. its just an executable. so turn off your sound before running it. to use it: just click on it and you get a popup. click the top left button to turn off the annoying sound. run skyrim. thats it. very simple and nice mod. no installation required. -
I was PMing rootsrat about this and he doesn't know how to do it. There are a number of scripts that come with tes5edit that are not documented. It seems that when people use tes5edit to look for mods they need to merge it is a highly manual process. This strikes me as inefficient. There appears to be a scripting interface. Are there any scripts that you can use to have tes5edit generate a report (write it to a text file) and tell you all the conflicts in a nice formatted test? Possibly with a summary? I dont know how to script tes5edit, but I think this might save a massive amount amount of time. You can then use this report to figure out which mods to look at for merging.

if you have not played rpgs in a long time... play the game for a while and enjoy before you kill yourself modding. as someone who has messed this up a few times, it can get frustrating until you learn stuff and its a big learning curve. the learning curve includes breaking stuff. since you will learn from your mistakes.

played for a couple of hours last night mainly around whiterun and then up to 1 dungeon no crashes with debugging on. @phazer11: problem with that is that CTDs and freezes tend to be intermittent. so how do I catch the problem? if i look at the log and see that the log may be causing the problem, I can turn it off. would be nice if there was a mod that would turn on logging when you change 'cells' or on zone loads or when memory use gets above a certain amount,etc... one intersting thing I noticed is that hte first dragon that I killed by whiterun is gone. When I played on xbox version this one never left the game and was safe to store items in. Not sure if this was from a mod i added or an issue I caused myself. Shame though. its the best place to stash stuff since its a fast travel location and i dont have to level load once I get there.

what does 2k textures with 1k normals mean? this is something you do in ddsopt right?

SKYRIMLE Possessive Corpses (supposed helps clean up save files)
youtoo posted a topic in Skyrim LE Mods
This was recommend on the Immersive Bandits page and ha over 1000 endorsements. Per the mod author it cleans up clutter and shrinks the size of save games. He claims it will help reduce crashes. anyone use this? https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4528/? -
I am getting freezes on level loads and have another thread. This actually used to happen ALOT with the Xbox version of the game (happened so much I stopped using it). found this on another forum. if i turn this on and play until I crash, anyway these logs could actually cause the freeze? anyway to just have the log run when I change levels? [Papyrus] fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0 bEnableLogging=1 bEnableTrace=1 bLoadDebugInformation=1

first I want to say that when I played skyrim on my xbox I used to freeze sometimes with the base game. Looking for ways to troubleshoot this. This happened late last night. I won't be able to post exact details until tonight. Please tell me what I should post. This is long. so I used spoiler. I have general troubleshooting questions at the end. My PC Specs My STEP Install Plus some other MODS. Note, At first I mainly used 1k mods, then upped a few to 2k to check it out. Additional Mods. All mods add to end of install order (since not sure where to put them. None are clearned. My STEPS when adding new Mods and changing Textures: How to troubleshoot

SKYRIMLE OBIS - Organized Bandits In Skyrim (by Indigoblade)
youtoo replied to Zeran's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
if you use this you need deadly dragons (and not for the dragons). Deadly Dragons has an option that keeps important (quest giving npcs) from dying. I dont know of any independent mods that have this). you will get bandit raids on towns. They are fun, but the game will be unwinnable quickly due to lots of quest giver mods croaking. The bandit raids can get rough after a while when the guards start croaking... and you get less and less of them. Especially if you combine it with a mod that makes NPCs level with you. I think mods like this would work better if it was easier to identify guys fighting on your side from bad guys. Is there a mod that may color bad guy mods a different color or highlight them with an option? When I was walking out of Skyrim there was a big bandit raid. Lots of guards and regular NPCs fighting. It was very difficult for me to spot the bandit NPCs from guys on myself. Killing guys on my side triggers crime radius (and note leaves less guards for the next raid). -
i remember googling this error and the suggestion on forums was to disable deadly dragons. this worked. then re-enabled. this worked for me.
-
i dont know what version I used. I ended up reinstalling skyrim. This is when I just used NMM since I screwed stuff up, but when I googled the issue about deadly dragons, the answer was uninstall until sequence over. Note I was using NMM and just mass adding stuff. so it was probably a conflict somewhere.

1. even with a separate install, I believe MO will still read the MOD directory in my skyrim install and still show them in the list of mods with a new install. Ill try this out. 2. Is it possible to make 1 big patch for all of STEP and then just have 1 Mod in my list? Is this some kind of merge, combined patch, or bash patch? 3. How do I work with more than 1 bash patch? I have a bash patch for STEP ,but I believe I need a separate one for SR? I dont see an ability to rename my bash patch.esp files. 4. Would it be possible to get SR: LE merge patches uploaded to NexusMods in an SR:LE mod section? It looks like all the TES5Edit stuff is the same for everyone. Then people can download the merged patches instead of doing the same thing over again. Dont know whether this requires written approval of mod authors.

if i use SkyUI 4.1 with nacmim. Am I losing any NACMIM functionality?

I would like to add a newbie guide to help make STEP a litle easier for newbs. I can suggest an order to read documents. What to focus on and links to other docs and videos. For example MO is best for STEP, but the guide assumes you know stuff and isnt detailed. So I found it best to read the Wrye Bash Guide on STEP(which includes discussing how to name mods) and then MO guide, plus links to some good youtube videos. Then discuss a lingo section. Some stuff I am not clear on. Most of you guys are long time modders so lingo/acroynms are tricky to new people. I will include stuff Im still not clear on. Thought about starting with a forum post. Sort of a 'do this for STEP newbs' guide. STEP is quite long and there is alot of info. From my experience I think this works best for me. 1. Skim through STEP. I would tell people to skip a few sections like the performance and benchmarking stuff. Too much infor for newbs. Its important if you have a lower end PC, but its too much to know. 2. dont read the ddsopt stuff and few aother guides. Learn simpler stuff first. 3. Absolutely use Mod Organizer for STEP. With a link to the authors youtube videos and a link to his long Nexus Mods Forum support thread. 4. Note that STEP only uses Wrye Bash once at the end and TES5Edit in one place. Stuff like that.
