Using v99 beta. 1. I created a profile. I am setting up STEP. My profile is called 'STEP'. I am seeing all of my existing saves show up in the saves tab. Per the MO tutorial video (link below), only the saves for this profile should show up. I have not played this yet. Could I have done something wrong? Is this a bug in v99? 2. upon launch I get the error 'cannot initialize pycg.py. This file does exist. When I see the error I see '/' both ways in the error message. I checked the .ini file and did not see an entry for this. I do not get this error in 12.9. I choce v99 beta because the NCC download says it works with 11.5 only. Please advice on best approach with MO. 3. Just to make sure I understand install order. If I am waiting for files to download, can I 'install' them while others are download and then re-order the priority. Or do I have to make absolutely sure I click the 'install' in the exact order? Some files are 500mb so I can download several others and keep going. I am not concerned about setting up the priority for the right order, but I am not sure if this matters.Â

I had to redownload Elys F4. Looks like a bad download. The error in v99 I keep getting. Im not sure how much it matters. The tool still runs. I did see another thread to use 12.9 instead of v99. but someone here said to us v99. ill see what happens. found this video on mod organizer very helpful. can you guys add this to the beginning of the MO Wiki page?

Under STEP requirements, which mods should I use?
youtoo replied to delcrum's question in General Skyrim LE Support
in the STEP guide, there is a guide for 'step' performance for what to do if you dont have a top of the PC. read that. you cant do this with nexus mod manager. it is missing too many features. You need either Wrye Bash or Mod Organizer (different from Nexus Mod Manager). 1. read the wiki entry for wrye bash and mod organizer. 2. click on the STEP v.2.2.6 at the top. In the guide you will see 'STEP Performance' for lower end machines. https://wiki.step-project.com/Main_Page -
on startup of v99 i also get this popup error. does it matter? notice the '\' go both ways. Not sure where to edit this. The file is present in the plugins directory i dont see a line for plugins in modorganize.ini file. failed init plugin E:\modorganizer/plugins/pyCfg.py import error no modulke named

now when im trying to install Elys F4, it says the mod is not set up correctly and wont work. The wiki says "If it has a red "No game data on top level" at bottom left then you need to expand the file structure and then right-click and choose "set data directory" on what should be the skyrim/data directory. This is the directory above what contains the ESP files and texture, meshes, sound, interface directories. If there are files outside what will become the data directory then drag and drop those files into what will be the data directory before setting it as the data directory" There are no ESP files. Do I move everything to the data directory and then right click set data directory on that one directory?

ok so i got the v99 version. I have skyrim with all the DLC. When I click on the plugins tab, I see that my DLC is not checked. I check the esm's. but when I click on archive, I see .bsa files ( read something about these on the wiki, but I dont understand it) have an ! and it says 'they will still be loaded, but out of order. I dont get it. am i supposed to check the box in the plugins tab? i have some mods that i installed automatically and I click there checkbox. SHouldnt they show up in the plugins tab or in the data tab? I thought that is what happens when the mods are installed? So I have the first 3 mods listed in the left pain. I only see Appropriately attired jarls showing up in the plugins tab? I have the check box for each checked? the MO guide on the wiki is pretty brief.

2nd post in this thread said the v99 beta is buggy. so its good to use? https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=2868

thanks. ihave mod organizer. i get a '!' it says i will have a problem if i dont install the NCC. however, on nexus, it says the NCC only works with the 11.5 version and I am on 12.9? should i install it. btw, getting the bash 303 version seemed to work. i was able to get it to pick up my ini file changes to look in another directory. I think 304 is buggy.

I thought I need Wrye Bash to handle conflicts and do merges if necessary? I thought the recommended way was to add the Wrye Bash executable to Mod Organizer and use them together? I have been using wrye bash to do STEP because I want to learn 1 first and get a feel for it then go into Mod Organizer. Can you check out my skyrim revisited thread in this forum. having trouble with the wrye bash ini editing. I think it may be a bug in the new 304 version. I am going to try the 303 version tonight. I cant see how Im editing the file wrong. To get MO and Bash to work together I really need to be able to have Bash read a different directory than the mod installers in the default skyrim install.

ACCEPTED Alternate Start - Live Another Life by Arthmoor

i copied the title of the mod from nexus? What did I do wrong. thanks about the conflicts. Im still working on my first STEP install. -
This is free. It does not have alot in the way of graphics, but its depth is unparalleled and radically exceeds Skyrim. It has both a fortress simulation where you run dwarves and a roguelike RPG game. you can do both in the same world. The level of depth in the crafting and simulation radically exceeds any pay games. If you have seen games like 'Gnomoria' or 'Towns' (indie games), they are based on Dwarf Fortress. Be warned, this is often considered the hardest game you can find. The motto is 'losing is fun'. The game was chosen as part of a video game display in the Museaum of Modern Art. Not sure if this is the kind of game people here would like since it doesn't have graphics. However, developers tend to like a challenge. www.bay12games.com New York Times Piece on the developer: https://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/24/magazine/the-brilliance-of-dwarf-fortress.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 If you want to try the game, do NOT download the regular game. You need a mod pack to get a handle on it. Makes the game playable. (seriously). Go here: https://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=28829.0 Download 'Lazy Newb Pack' (most people use this). Read tutorial in the link and watch the youtube videos. you wont know what to do if you just started. Be warned. you will lose your first few fortresses rather quickly. As a note on depth, you can do just about anything. One person built a computer in game. Another person crafted a Mermaid Death Camp (there corpses are quite valuable), other people have emptied out oceans, poured magma to fill oceans, etc... The crafting system is more robust than Minecraft. This is just in the main game and before the mods. If you dont like the game, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the 'other games' forum. Lots of ideas for games to play. Its very active. https://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?board=4.0

Discussion topic: Alternate Start - Live Another Life by Arthmoor Wiki Link Is this too much of a change for STEP? The generic introduction is long and dull after you have seen it a few times. All this allows you to do is choose how you want to start. Its good for replayability. Some of the scenarios are fun. The shipwreck one you are left underwater off the northcoast and you have to find your way out of the ship and swim to shore. You can also choose the regular start. The mod is about choices. So you dont have to change anything. I dont know about compatibility issues.

These are mods that make the game harder and more interesting. I dont think they would fit in STEP because they change gameplay. They fit very well with SkyRe and the uncapper. These two mods make you stronger. These other mods balance this out and make the game more exciting. I have no idea how to add them to SR, let alone SR with Iroha's addition. I think they would be fun to add in for people who have played the game. If you have already won the game, making it harder can increase replayability. Sands of Time: Settings to increase random encounters. This will impact CPU, so there are parameters Deadly Dragons: Critical if making the game harder. There is an option that keeps important NPCs alive. If you dont use this, your get will quickly get unwinnable WARNING: This causes a bug in the opening sequence even if installed by itself. When you go to the headsman, the script doesn't run and you just hang. Standard solution is to install after this scene is over. Not sure if that will work with SR). Dragon Combat Overhaul: Lets face it dragon combat is boring. Organized Bandits: Bandit Raids: I saw bandit raids on many of the towns/cities I was in. More Bandit Camps Realistic Needs and Diseases: Seems to fit well with frostfall. Could be annoying for some people. I think you can adjust or turn off in Mod Configurator. Skyrim Hardcore mods: https://www.gamersnexus.net/features/gg/853-skyrim-hardcore-survival-overhaul Dont know their compatibility Skyrim Alternate Start: Watching the 10 minute sequence to start the game gets boring after a while. Some of the starts are quite intersting. In the shipwreck one you are left undrewater with nothing off the north coast.

I read the wiki part about BCF conversion. I understand how to do it. My question is why is it necessary? The mods seem to load if we dont do a bcf conversion? Should we convert all mods to bcfs if they are not a bcf already? concerning unpacking. All this is doing is unzipping the file and moving the directory structure around so there are not as many sub-directories and rezipping right or did I mis read this? BAIN expects no more than 2 levels of directories if I am reading this correctly.

STEP/Skyrim Revisited newbie questions
youtoo replied to youtoo's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I just noticed that I am using the latest 304 version that just came out july 1st. this may be a bug in this version. I downloaded the 303 version from sourceforge and will try tonight. I looked through the source code and saw where the 304 version was looking at the .ini file ,but it only seemed to look up to see where skyrim was located and did not look at any other parameters. did a windows OS search and could not find anything reading the other parameters. I am not a python developer so I may be missing something. Ill try the 303 version tonight. is anyone else using the latest 304 version? -
Why do you need to make and consolidate into bigger patches for Realistic Lighting Overhaul? WHy do these patches allow you to eliminate mods like Realistic Crime radius? I am guessing they become redundant somehow. by free up .esp slots? Is that where we get to 255 mods max? so a total of 255 .esp files?

STEP/Skyrim Revisited newbie questions
youtoo replied to youtoo's question in General Skyrim LE Support
did I edit my bash.ini file wrong ? Do I need to manually remove some registry settings? I noticed that after I uninstalled Wrye Bash, there was still a registry setting pointing to the wrye bash.exe, but I didn't see any other Wrye Bash registry settings. I really need to move these mods to a different drive. -
STEP/Skyrim Revisited newbie questions
youtoo replied to youtoo's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I have uninstalled and reinstalled wrye bash a few times. Here is my current bash.ini that I changed. It seems to ignore it and keep using the skyrim directory. I need these patches on a different HDD. I have 1 line commented out in each group. I did a search of my registry to see if there are entries that point to the skyrim directory. When I do an install I do an install for skyrim. I can get rid of that. I figured that just let Bash know that Im modding skyrim. ;--sBashModData is the directory containing data about your mods, ini edits, ; etc. If using MOM, mTES4 Manager, or other utility to manage multiple ; installs, you will want to change this to keep the Bash data with your ; saved games. You'll need to use an absolute path to your saved games ; folder, so here are the defaults and a few examples. ;sBashModData=..\Oblivion Mods\Bash Mod Data sBashModData=E:\Skyrim Mods\Bash Mod Data ;sBashModData=C:\Documents and Settings\Wrye\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Bash Mod Data ;sBashModData=C:\Users\Wrye\AppData\Local\Skyrim\Bash Mod Data ;--sInstallersData is the directory containing data about which installers are ; installed by Wrye Bash. If you changed sBashModData above, you'll probably ; want to change this one too. Examples: ;sInstallersData=..\Oblivion Mods\Bash Installers\Bash sInstallersData=E:\Skyrim Mods\Bash Installers\Bash ;sInstallersData=C:\Documents and Settings\Wrye\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Bash Installers\Bash ;sInstallersData=C:\Users\Wrye\AppData\Local\Skyrim\Bash Installers\Bash -
STEP/Skyrim Revisited newbie questions

Skyrim Revisited has you use TES5Edit quite a bit to clean mods. If I install and uninstall like you say, do I have to run TEST5Edit repeatedly to clean the mods again? -
This game is alot of fun. you actually get 2 licenses for $12. They are regularly adding features. They also added alot of mod support. Its a hardcore roguelike. Random world each time and perma-death. You can try it for free online for 5 minutes. First time I played I died in 2 minutes. Its well worth the $6 if 2 people go in together. The game is fully playable right now.

From reading STEP guide, the methodology is add mods that make the game look nicer and more fun to play, but dont change the core balance of the game. SR seems to do alot of that and then adds features such as Frostfall which changes the game. It does not add SkyRE which integrates well with Frostfall (adds a new skill tree just for Frostfall). How is the methodology different? SR seems to add more mods, but Im not sure what methdology your following.

I thought the recommended way is to use Wrye Bash inside of MO? If I do that in which cases would I want to switch to Wrye Bash from MO? -
STEP/Skyrim Revisited newbie questions
youtoo replied to youtoo's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Thank you for explaining mod organizer and how to pop stuff in and out. I am taking this slow and reading through stuff in Wrye Bash and then I will get to some other tools before I spend hours adding mods. I spent about 3 hours last night reading up on Wrye Bash and putting files into install directory and looking through them. I work and dont get home till late. I hope its ok, but I have some more questions. 1. having problems with Wrye Bash, bash.ini Question 2: How do you know when to merge? Question 3: How do you figure out load order? Question 4: Mods that make cities look nicer -
STEP/Skyrim Revisited newbie questions
youtoo replied to youtoo's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I may have missed it, but when I was going through STEP and reading the mods, I started to add mods to my installers directory and rename name appropriate as suggested to get the mod order correct. I think I will probably do this 1 section at a time and then load it, so that my list doesn't get too big to follow and reduces my chance of making a mistake. Question 1: Why do we need Wrye Bash for STEP Question 2: I see there are no patches in STEP? Lingo issue. Does this mean that STEP does not require you to make a bash patch with Wrye Bash or are you referring to something from TES5Edit? Question 3: Is thre a good way to switch between mod setups? -
STEP Program plus other mods
youtoo replied to ssconvert's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
if you want to make the game harder... (Id like to get these added to STEP or Skyrim Revisited, if someone can write up how) If you are going to use these, its essential to go into Deadly Dragons mod and set it to to 'essential NPCS dont die' or you will quickly find the game unplayable as many quest npcs will get whacked. ERSO: I think this is a modpack. Look at the mods that are in it. I think some of them are in STEP and Skyrim Revisited. Add: SkyRe and Asis, et al. See forum post for adding this to Skyrim Revisited with some other mods. Adds alot more perks and makes mobs harder Sands of Time: increases mob spawn rate and difficulty. adjustable Look for some bandit mods that increase the number of bandits and another that gets them to raid towns. Size adjustment mod (cant remember the name). Makes mobs realistic height. The giant that the companions fight on your first trip to Whiterun is HUGE and looks cool. Dragon Combat overhaul Frostfall (integrated with SkyRe, part of skyrim revisited). Tytanis farming mod. Real useful for frostfall Hunting mod. real useful for frostfall. Zombie Mod (not sure how good tihs is, but it makes the game harder) Warzone and/or Civil War overhaul. 2nd one is very new. Not sure if there are compatible. Alternative Start Mod: you dont have to start in Helgen. Many scenarios. Tried one where your boat is a wreck off the north coast. Have to swim out. No real supplies and your on the north shore near the College of Magic. There are several neat starting scenarios. Companion mods that let you have more companions. Goes well with the 'harder mod' stuff since this helps balance the game. Being a newb modder I screwed all this up when I did installs. I got some stuff to work and then got crashes. Probably due to mods that make the towns look nicer.
