  1. We are comparing dungeon textures from TPC to those of Re-Defined Dungeons (RDD). TC has provided some screens: TPC RDD TPC RDD TPC RDD I prefer TPC, as I think that the textures are generally more consistent with vanilla and a bit more realistic (although both have merit). Mostly, I don't like the over-use (IMO) of stone wall carvings in RDD, but there are other subltle diffs I like better as well. However, texture blending among adjacent rock textures seems to be better overall in RDD (esp in the first set above) Other opinions?
  2. Discussion thread: Static Mesh Improvement Mod by Brumbek Wiki Link It is about time this was added. Version 1.24 is out now and includes an updated BAIN wizard that I developed with Brumbek's assistance (since v1.21). The mod now includes Dwemer clutter, Nordic tables/benches, Whiterun doors, and bridges. Dev continues. Following are screens of Vanilla. The first is DDSopt-imized vanilla HRDLC followed by the same with SMIM installed using the SMIM defaults (but with vanilla barrels and small-link pull chains). I never noticed that Brumbek had played with the rock walls and walkway borders. An improvement IMHO: Â As I mentioned on the Nexus thread, FPS is unaffected in this area by SMIM and VRAM usage is actually very slightly improved (945 Mb down to 935 Mb on STEP-default INI settings on my box, which mirrors the STEP Baseline System defined by the upcoming new Guide)... rather insignificant but encouraging.
  3. OP link is fixed now :P
  4. You can run on all, but there can be unexpected effects on certain textures, so prepare to identify some oddities and to reference the log to see what DDSopt did with the faulty texture results. Then simply replace those with the originals and notify us on this thread which textures did not convert correctly. If Ethatron ever comes back, he will likely use that list to further refine optimization or at least add them to the exclusion list.
  5. I updated the OP to aid newcomers in using the latest DDSopt release. I'll eventually get around to adjusting the DDSopt Guide to the new release based on posts indicated in the OP. @MadWizard25 or Vond: Go ahead and update the Guide if you want, as I will not be able to do so for at least a month
  6. Does not compute. :PMy process is looping as wellÂ
  7. Hi PuuLoo, We do not permit accusations posed against others in this community, regardless of whether or not such accusations are valid. Feel free to state your inclinations less the direct accusations and flaming of others. Feel free to PM the admin regarding your opinions behind your decisions, but discretion is a requirement in the public forums. Please see the STEP Community Citizenship Guide for more information. Thanks
  8. Agreed. let's stay on topic (MDS) in this thread please.
  9. Those sounds get it all wrong too IMO (small blade is OK though)
  10. Most of the sheathe and swing mods (as well as Vanilla) get the sounds wrong. These big pieces of metal have bigger, clangier sounds than those that exist for the game (existing sound like a fencing foil rather than an actual sword). I am sifting through all of the sound mods available and finding almost nothing that sounds right. I think I may just have to create this mod myself ;)
  11. I've uploaded Civilizations v1.0 (with the crash fix) to my public Dropbox here. Thanks!
  12. OK, it sounds like Cliffworms will be fixing and adding back maybe. Could you (or anyone) host the third one (forget what it is offhand). I only have wilds and dungeons. Thanks
  13. This is true, yes. Ethatron only added the parameter because he could. He prefers to remove the lower mip, as it reduces size. It likely does not matter at all.
  14. 3 STEP sound mods are missing from the Nexus. If anyone has any detail on why, please reply to this (Thanks in advance!): Realistic Weapon Swing Sounds (by ???) Sounds of Skyrim - The Wilds (by Cliffworms) Sounds of Skyrim - Dungeons(by Cliffworms) I am very disappointed ...
  15. I like that best of all. Just add to those coals a deep orange-red glow and we have a winner for that scene I think ...
  16. I agree that Akimbo would likely be the best choice of all if the red tint were significantly reduced overall. However, I do not think that Fimbulvinter is too gray and dead. That gunmetal grey color is so very realistic in the scenes above. There should be no red tint at all on a snowy, cloudy winter day, be it morning noon or evening. The middle pic above is most realistic IMO. If you look at all of the EMB series, most mods add warmer reddish tones, and reds are the exception to the general rule of color in nature. Red is rare in nature on Earth accept where light is low or absent.
  17. Hmmm, let us look again ... ... indoors A - F - K: I have to say, that akimbo is much too red. Fire pits cast an orangeish glow, but that seems unrealistic. Same goes for Kalicola x100. Fimbulvinter is less saturated overall, the fire is brighter and the rest of the light in the room is insignificant compared to the fire pit. This is a bit too bright and unrealistic, behaving more like a modern light source. It is the reflected light and the lower red-saturation that I like about this one (and hate about the others). I'd like the fire pit of akimbo and the ambiance of Fimbulvinter or Opehtfeldt. ... and the outdoors at night: Again, I think that akinbo and Kalicola are just too red and arty. Fimbulvinter has a much more "real" color temp, saturation level and darkness/detail ratio. All three of these handle the lighting pretty well though. There is just not so much red in the world though (given that the world of Tamriel is like Earth and Skyrim might be thought to resemble New Zealand's Southern Alps).
  18. I looked at all of these in some detail, and found that Fimbulvinter consistently offered the most realistic look indoors and outdoors, day and night. RCRN was a close second, but was just too bright for me in the night shots. Opethfeldt desaturated was also very nice (as were the other versions of that one); however, these were even more overly bright in the night shots. Many of the others were WAY oversaturated and intense. I prefer muted colors, as this is more in keeping with reality (outside of the Chinese New Year anyway). SYNERGY has lots of promise I think, although this one is a bit TOO dark, and the contrast seems a bit too high as well. I assume that each of these can be tweaked though, right? Anxious to see other implementations as well (including Stayned's mod)
  19. Thanks for posting this. Will take a look and provide some feedback.
  20. I run against each of my extracted mods rather than the textures folder. then I repack my mods once I verify that there are no errors. ;)
  21. In the next release, SMIM will likely be overwritten by everything but USP and Beth HR DLC Opt.
  22. Thanks, will test run ;)
  23. Left a 7-day trail, so you will just need to visit at least once a week ;)
