Returning to STEP from v0.3.0b --- looking for help
Paes replied to Paes's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
Thanks for the replies. It looks like there was some issue related to downloading of the Content Creator data. On my latest attempt to start the game, it downloaded the necessary content, and that addressed most of the LOOT errors and warnings. Oddly, MO does not complain about any incompatibilities, aside from "Whose Quest Is It Anyways", which I've disabled. Is that expected? MO did not complain about any of the other mods referenced in earlier posts. Also, LOOT still complains as follows. Are those warning to be expected, and ignored, or have I missed something? -
Hello STEP community, I'm a big fan of STEP, and am returning to Skyrim after a hiatus from STEP v0.3.0b . I had an amazing experience with v0.3.0b --- I followed the guide, installed everything, and it just worked the first time around. My experience with v2.1.0 has been ... different. The short story is that I can't get it to work, and concede that it is likely because of a mistake I made and my own lack of experience. A short summary of what I've done: 1. Bought a legitimate copy of Skyrim AE 2. Followed the System Setup Guide 3. Followed the STEP Guide up to the end of Group 20. At this point, it's unclear to me if the game should be able to load, but LOOT is full of errors and warnings, and the game won't load. I'm apprehensive about proceeding further. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I can wait a couple of months for the next iteration --- sounds like the right play. Looking forward to it!

Hi all, I'm returning to Skyrim after about 6-8 months, and was previously using STEP 0.3.0b. I was wondering: 1) Is upgrading to the latest STEP worth the effort? That is, are the changes significant enough to justify the time involved? 2) Is it possible to surgically modify my existing build, or is it best to just do a clean install? 3) If I do a clean install using the latest STEP, is it possible to use my existing saved games, or is it likely that my existing saves will become unusable after the upgrade? I know there can be different "gotchas" with STEP changes, so any advice would be helpful.

Thanks for the responses --- I'm not sure what happened, but after a reboot, things are back to normal. 🤷♂️ -
Display Issues after M02 Upgrade to 2.4.0 from 2.3.2
Paes posted a question in General Skyrim SE Support
Hello all, I seem to have created a mess with my Skyrim SE build and I'm looking for help on how to untangle this. What Changed - I had a functional Skyrim SE Step Build - Today, I was about to launch it after about a week of inactivity, and noticed that MO2 had an an upgrade available, so I decided to upgrade (mistake) - After the upgrade finished, I ran LOOT and it complained that an add-on (LOS II) was dirty, so I ran QuickClean, and then moved the files out of the Overwrite directory - I reran LOOT, and it came back clean (except for one error about a different mod that has always been there, and I've been told is a false positive) What Happens Now - Skyrim SE launches, but the colors are wrong --- everything is extremely dark (ie. barely visible) I have no idea where to begin troubleshooting this and any help would be appreciated. 🙂 -
It looks like this functionality is already included in "Convenient Horses", but I can't get it to work. In any case, this thread can be deleted --- not sure how to do that.
-
Hi all, I was trying to figure out how to stable my horse and based on my experience and what I read, this is not possible using the current STEP build. That is, it is not possible to "store" your horse at a stable so that it does not follow the player during a fast travel. Can anyone confirm if this is correct, and if it is, is this an intended behavior? The mod referenced in the title provides this functionality, and is not currently part of STEP. Has it ever been considered for inclusion in STEP?

SKYRIMSE CTD during "The Silver Hand" while fighting "The Skinner"
Paes posted a question in General Skyrim SE Support
Crash_2021_1_9_1-47-18.txtCrash_2021_1_9_1-52-31.txtHi all, My Skyrim Step build has been running fairly well after about 30 hours of gameplay. I did run into consecutive CTDs while fighting the main target in the quest "The Silver Hand" (ie. The Skinner). I did manage to finally get through it by defeating The Skinner without a CTD, after which everything was fine. I've attached the crash logs in the event that anyone wants to take a look at what was happening. This is my first time submitting a crash report, so if I've left anything out, my apologies and please let me know so that I get it right next time around. -

DROPPED Lanterns Of Skyrim II (by MannyGT/wizkid34)
Paes replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Can anyone clarify what the replacement should be for "LOS II", including instructions? I've found LOS I, but it has a bunch of files listed, and I'm not sure what to choose or what options should be set. -
ACCEPTED Dragons Shout with Voice (by pauderek)
Paes replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Thanks, that was really helpful. I wonder if there's a reason why STEP does not include these short instructions on their Recommendation page for this mod. It may seem a straightforward procedure, but for a first-time modder, loading the CK and then getting a bunch of errors/warnings is not an intuitive indication that the process is proceeding as expected.- 50 replies

ACCEPTED Dragons Shout with Voice (by pauderek)
Paes replied to WilliamImm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Hello all, ... apologies in advance if this is the wrong area for this post. I'm having some difficulty understanding the STEP instructions for integrating "Dragons Shout with Voice from location" in Skyrim SE. The recommendations in the STEP documentation indicate: "The Optional File, Dragons Shout with Voice from location, enables the sounds to play from the dragon's location. Without this option, the sounds will play at the player. Users can install this Optional File, however, it requires porting using the Skyrim SE Creation Kit. Porting mods is not covered in this Guides, however, it is as simple as loading the plugin in the CK, saving, and closing the CK." Is anyone able to clarify if the procedure above is still required, and if so, provide guidance on the porting process? I've gotten as far as downloading and launching the creation kit, but I'm unable to figure out how to properly proceed from this point.- 50 replies

SKYRIMSE Help for a return to Skyrim and STEP
Paes replied to Paes's question in General Skyrim SE Support
Ok, well I guess it's SE 0.2.0b for me :). Thanks to all for the responses! -
Hi all, I'm returning to Skyrim and STEP after a 5 year hiatus. My previous build was on LE and followed STEP (which was equally complicated and rewarding). My intention is to start with a net new build, and have a few questions. 1) Is Skyrim SE the "go to" version for net new builds, or are there pros/cons? 2) Does the STEP Core build apply equally to all versions, or is there a specific guide for SE? I am considering firing up my existing STEP'd version of LE, but there will be a few drawbacks, so would like to think about all options before resuming gameplay. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hiring - Fallout 3 STEP Deployment Specialist
Paes replied to Paes's question in General Fallout 3 Support
Could someone not just provide the instructions on how to get exactly what they need to do the work, then I prep the packages for them, and then they do the work? -
Hello STEP Community, I'm looking to hire someone with extensive STEP experience to mod Fallout 3 for me. I have modded Skyrim before uses STEP and it is working very well for me, however I just don't have the time to go through the process with Fallout 3. I'd rather just have someone do it for me and pay for it. If anyone is interested in the job, please PM me and let me know what the asking price would be. Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I am using STEP 2.2.9 with the extended patch. I've had a few small issues here and there, but have found a way to resolve all of them, up until this one. Dampened Spirits will not start. The previous quest "Loud and Clear" shows as completed in my log. Talking to Maven yields no results, and Brynjolf says nothing aside from telling me he is busy. I have ready the Skyrim WIKI and the proposed workaround of skipping the quest via the console is not very satisfying. Has anyone else encountered this issue using STEP? This issue was supposedly fixed in an old patch, but I am using all the current patches and the problem still exists.

Miscellaneous Quest Bugged? - Kill the Leader of Uttering Hills Camp
Paes replied to Paes's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I figured it out, somewhat. I found this link: https://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Kill_the_Bandit_Leader ... which suggested this console command sequence: prid 7d67a resurrect kill This resolved the issue, although I'm not sure why, since the NPC "Kjar" sent me on the mission "Harsh Master", which is unrelated to the "Kill the Bandit Leader" radiant quest. Also, the "Harsh Master" quest is nowhere to be found in my quest logs. Perhaps this is something the STEP team may want to look at fixing for a future release. -
Hi all, I am using STEP 2.2.9 Extended, and everything was going well until I accepted a miscellaneous quest from an NPC in Windhelm. The quest log indicates to "Kill the Leader of Uttering Hills Camp". There is an indicator on my map of the location, and when I go there, there is in indication of where the leader is. When I go to the indicated location of the bandit leader, there is a female bandit chief, which is expected and consistent with the purpose of the quest. However, when I kill the bandit chief, the quest does not update, and the arrow on the map continues to point to the location of the bandit chief. If I try to force advancement of the quest via the console, I can retrieve the reward from the NPC in Windhelm, but the quest remains unfinished in my log and the indicator continues to point at the location of the cave (and to the location of the late bandit chief). I have read of complications of this quest with another quest involving an NPC named Linwe, but I have not done the Thieves Guild questline yet, so there should not be a conflict. Can anyone provide any suggestions on how to complete this quest? I am not sure how to proceed because I don't want to cause further issues to my saved game.
-
No, I removed it, since it didn't seem to be doing anything. I am going to leave things the way they are right now because it looks like everything is stable. I played for a few hours last night and did a bunch of fast travel tests, and never had a freeze or ILS, so I am marking this issue as solved. Thanks again for helping me through this.
-
It looks like the problem is resolved. Installing SSME results in the proper allocation of memory, confirmed by MemoryBlocksLog. A huge thank you to GunerX for suggesting the MemoryBlocksLog mod, which resulted in a proper diagnosis and methodology for confirming a solution. I'm not quite clear on why the SKSE.INI does not function properly, but since other people seem to have had this exact same problem with SKSE, and have resolved it by using SSME, there is at least a possibility that there is an issue with SKSE. Anyways, I am going to do some in game testing tonight and will post the results.

Thanks for the suggestion. UAC is turned off, and was not enabled when I installed Skyrim, so I don't think it is a factor.
-
I tried making that change and it didn't work. I found this thread: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1352936-ssme-skyrim-startup-memory-editor/page-136 ... seems like some other people have had this same issue and have work around the issue by using something called SSME. I will give that a shot when I have some time.
