Perfect, thanks

Hello! I've followed the instructions for STEP extended install, and relative to texture enhancing mods i've used all the recommended options (so I haven't considered higher res choices). Now I'm going to install step compilation. Which one do I need to choose, high res or normal res?

ACCEPTED aMidianBorn Book of Silence (by CaBaL)
LewsTherin replied to EisDrache's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Sorry if I return on this topic, but I'm a little confused about this part: "Download and install the Staff of Magnus Hotfix into aMidianBorn Book of Silence - Unique Items." I've installed all the single aMidianBorn mods separately, and renamed them accordingly, so I have "aMidianBorn Book of Silence UNIQUE ITEMS" in my mod list. Now, Do i just have to drag the two files of magnus hotfix into "staff of magnus" folder, overwriting the existing files, which are: "1stpersonstaffofmagnus.nif" and "staffofmagnus.nif" or do I have to do it differently? edit: another thing... Do I have to make bashed patch after installing content addon, or do I just wait to reach the end of step process and make it? -
Should I also force AA and Anisotropic filters? Right now I have AA off and aniso at 8. Since I don't use any ENB or ENBoost, i could try using adaptive AA which maybe is less taxing than pure multisampling AA.. edit: apparently adaptive AA could cause problems, I found a skyrim thread where it is stated that some textures become invisible with Adaptive is on, unless relative meshes are extracted. Nvm... Regarding Vsync, should I activate also triple buffering?
-
Thank you, I'll surely try out that, besides adaptive vsync which is not present in amd cards IIRC. Can't find it in my video control parent

Yes I have the crossbow mod, but i haven't it in the inventory... Does it matter? Didn't think about that though...

Heya it's me again, this time with a performance related topic. I've managed to complete a F&L install and everything seems working, though i'm still in goodspring so who knows what can happen next. I know that retexture mods are very resource-eaters, but I thought that with my rig i should've handled them safely. I also know that AI-heavy places in game (such as goodsprings) are hard to handle, but still I couldn't imagine that they were SO hard to handle. Anyway... Here's some info: I don't run ENB (luckily at this point ), just dynavision which I always loved My rig is this: barebone notebook based on clevo HM170 model CPU: i7 @2.40Hgz Ram: 8GB DDR3 GPU: radeon 8970M 4GB (basically a 8950 for desktop, more or less) the game is installed on a samsung EVO SSD The problems start expecially in outside areas of goodsprings, where i get the amazing amount of 17/23 FPS (with AA set to 2 and aniso set to 8). Inside buildings it's ok, i get near 55/60 FPS and it's good. Outside town I also get ~45/50 FPS which is not a bad number at all.... I wonder though what happens if I reach another AI dense area, will FPS drop again to awful ~20? I found a cool thread here where a guy had the same problems, but with a weaker GPU than mine. From that thread I managed to find a way to use shaders 3.0, which let me gain a good ~5 FPS raise in outside areas of goodspring. That's not bad at all, but I'm sure that there is a way to improve performance further. For example, in that same thread I read that enabling multithreadedAI should not be harmful and could help improve things a bit. So, are there more ways to raise my FPS, and where in falloutprefs.ini must I put the multithreadedAI=1 line?

Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Last doubt (hopefully), and sorry for the double post Where do i put FalloutNV optimized textures1 and FalloutNV optimized textures2 files? Under FalloutNV.esm? I got it for other files (dead money_opt goes under deadMoney.esm, etc.), but i'm not sure if the two main NV files go there or at the very bottom of the list... -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
I hope this is the last question I have, i'm near the end of the installation :D Regarding More Perks merged mod, do I have to merge it to more perks? Since the latter hasn't any esm or esp, should the merged esm be included in that mod? or I just keep the more perks merged in the last position in the left pane, just under more traits? edit: of course there is another issue. When i run FNVLODGen i get this exception: "Exception: "Ambient Temperature - PPA.esp" requires master "Powered Power Armor.esp" to be loaded before it." Powered Power Armor IS loaded before Ambient Temperature.... AT is at position 61, PPA is at position 63 in the right pane... What's wrong? Just around the corner.... edit 2: nvm, I ran Loot, reordered and now LODGen finished its job -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
The weird thing is that the option IS ticked. That's why I thought MO managed the bsas like it should have done. Anyway, now I've solved and (so far ) everything works flawlessly. I also have a confirmation that the greyed out bsas are safely extractable (I won't touch the dlc ones and all those that are not greyed out, like JIP companion for example), so thanks again @oqhansoloqo: Occam's razor strikes again ... Anyway, all the suggestions you gave me are much appreciated, they will be surely useful. edit: the version of PN - extra option mod listed is 1.2, which needs a MCM fix file. There is out v1.3 that includes the fix, so I guess the fix file should be removed and the version of the mod should be updated to 1.3 in the guide... Also, in the instructions for poco bueno texture pack, I'd suggest to add that installation must be manual, it just says to load the fomod, but at least for me it didn't show the pop up menu after I did that, I had to choose "manual" from the install pop up window, then the pop up menu appeared and I could set the correct install path. Not sure if it happens because I'm installing every mod using the "install mod from archive" button... -

Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Well, I solved thanks to Dragonborn's advice to check all the bsa files... Who could imagine it was a small issue like that? I thought that MO handled them automatically  Thanks everybody for the help. this community is amazing !! edit: regarding greyed out bsa in archive tab that the guide doesn't suggest to extract (for example flashlight mod), is it only a "philosophical" choice to unzip all of them, or there are technical reasons behind the choice to not extract all of them? -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
No, I typed it without quotes. Darn, actually they were not checked last time looked at the archive tab in the right pane. I thought it was normal. Right now I have downloaded the whole game again, in a couple of minutes I'll start my third (and final at this point) attempt at F&L Thanks very much for the help, and thanks also for the guide, it is amazingly written -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Actually I uninstalled each mod listed in UI section, before trying. Right now I just have fixes and content mods installed, last one being tales of the burning sands. I don't have the d3d9.dll file in main directory, could be that the problem? I don't use ENB... A couple days ago, I run the same check (testing the game after I installed the first batch of UI mods, without dynavision), and the game ran fine. I completed the step installation, and the game in the end didn't run. I think it was because i screwed something during I just run an integrity check and steam downloaded the .esm files of all the five DLCs... I'll try cleaning those files again with NVEdit and then run the game again. Let's see... I'll try also a vanilla profile -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
In mine there is only falloutNV.exe, no d3d9.dll, which should be required only if you use ENB if i'm not mistaken... By the way, I put d3d9.dll from ENB wrapper folder into exes folder, no luck... -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Ok. I have followed the guide all through the UI section (plus dynavision 3 which I use instead of ENB), and i've been EXTREMELY careful regarding the various mod merging / bsa extractions / patch merging. I'm pretty sure i have made it right. The game starts if I use 4gb Loader directly from FNV install folder, but obviously with no mod loaded. NVSE is working as well, because when I check the version with the console command it returns the right answer (4). If i try loading 4gb launcher through MO, the game doesn't start, but it crashes after a few seconds with "Fallout NV has stopped working" error. The same happens if I try to use any other launcher from MO (standard launcher, NVSE.exe, falloutNV.exe). I've tried: 1) launching vanilla game, no mods activated 2) launching MO with admin privileges and win 7 compatibility 3) setting admin privileges and compatibility to all the executables (4gb loader, falloutNV.exe, NVSE.exe, MO) 4) i've added "-laaexe .\FalloutMO.exe " argument in MO with no luck whatsoever. Always the same error message. I have found that 4gb loader might have problems with windows 8.1 (which i'm using), but I have already made the same test a couple days ago during my first attempt and I'm pretty sure the game just loaded, as I remember I've started tampering with MCM. So i don't understand why suddenly MO doesn't load the game anymore... Any clue? -

Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Yeah, i definitely messed up something in the beginning, when I didn't fully understand ho to merge some patches and uninstalled/reinstalled a few mods several times  About the crash, it was just a classic "CtD just after loading", but it happened when using FNV4Gb loader in MO. If I used the loader directly from FNV main folder, the game started, but apparently without mods (no MCM for example, and no hi-res textures). I should've tested the game more than once (just after the user-interface section as stated in the guide). If I can make a little observation on the (almost perfect) guide, it would be probably better to advice testing more often (maybe once for each section), it could help non-expert users remembering that an error is always around the corner -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
I'm happy I can use the same files, it was a pain looking at my poor cpu working at 100% speed for half an hour, with few breaks between various optimization steps I did the same, it's very useful when I want to check where I did something wrong I'm going a bit off topic: my first attempt of F&L install failed miserably (the game crashes just after loading), and I can't find what is wrong. I've checked with FNVEdit if there were plugins misplaced (esps before relative esms), but apparently it was not the problem because FNVEdit didn't return anything wrong... Also, after making a bashed patch, I ended with ~115 plugins, which are a bit more than the goal of ~100 stated in the STEP guide. Is that part of the guide outdated or (more likely) I just did something wrong? Regarding MO, after I finished making the bashed patch, there were ~20 plugins automatically deactivated in the right panel. Are they the plugins merged in bashed patch? I think so, but I'd like a confirmation In the left panel, there were also a bunch of plugins deactivated (besides the ones that were merged during install), and a dozen of them (all of which being small retexture mods) were flagged as "redundant" but still ticked. DO I have to keep them activated? Guessing I did something wrong, I just uninstalled everything and now that I became more accustomed with modding process I restart from scratch. Another thing: do you keep tools (FNVEdit, DDSopt, MO, etc) in NV directory (each in its own folder), or do you put them in a separate directory with subfolders for each tool? -
Question about Texture optimization with DDSopt
LewsTherin replied to LewsTherin's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Thanks for the answer :) So I guess it's better put optimized files at the same spot they were before optimization, after I run loot... Should I put vanilla texture packs (optimized) near the relative ems file, like I saw in a thread regarding Skyrim and DDSopt? Like it is shown in this image https://i.imgur.com/LehXkSj.png -
Hi everyone! I've almost completed a STEP installation of FNV, and i've just successfully optimized vanilla textures. I have put the 12 archives into MO download folder, and then I installed them with MO one by one. I have a few questions though: 1) Does Loot manage load order also for optimized texture archives? 1a) If not, do I just let them sitting at the end of my load order? 2) Should I move original BSAs from data folder or I just keep them there? Thanks :) edit: darn. There is an extra t in optimization in the title. Sorry about that

Two Part Question concerncing ADAM and ENB
LewsTherin replied to duncandun's topic in Fear & Loathing in New Vegas
Regarding the issue with ADAM all in one and greyed out options, after more or less 50 install attempts without changing any options, I've solved the problem this way: 1. right click on MO shortcut or executable --> properties 2. in Compatibility tab I set "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7" and "Run this program as an administrator" The mod installed correctly at first attempt :) I use win 8.1, if this can be useful to find where the issue lies ... -
Hello! Yesterday I have finally completed a step core install (plus a few extended STEP mods, alternate start, immersive armors and immersive weapons). I have successfuly started a new game and played for hallf an hour without crashes or strange behaviours. I know that half an hour is not enough to say everything is all right, but it is a good start! Now, I'd like to install RealVision ENB, and I have a question. Since RealVision needs CoT and RLO (or ELFX) in order to work as intended, or at least I guess it does, is it safe to install those mods right after all the other I installed? Or I will screw up everything made so far?
