  1. Just a note about Skytest: I think it spawns too many animals, such as elk, and especially when doing a hunter/survival game play. It seemed all I had to do was open my eyes to find an elk to hunt. With so much venison just waiting to catch my arrow, I was never concerned about where my next meal might come from.
  2. Deathneko11: I think we could use a video tutorial on ReProccer and Mod Organizer. I believe a lot of people are starting to do things they had not done before, such as using Wrye Bash, as part of the STEP install. Then, we think we know what is going on, until we start doing Reproccer stuff. I could not find a good tutorial on Reproccer using MO. If you have the time, it would be well received I think. Thanks!
  3. I installed most of the REGS mods, and it is too much for my system. I think it is ETaC, as it was in Falkreath where I got my first CTD. I have not felt a need to turn on FRAPS for many months, as I could consistently run between 40-60 (and mostly 50ish), but I knew something was happening so I turned it on. It was dropping to high teens depending on which way I was looking. A shame, because it was nice to see a town different than it has been during so many prior play throughs.
  4. As I recall, the STEP Fomod, after you download and extract it, has a folder called something like 'fomod', and within that folder is another folder also called something like 'fomod'. My initial error was putting both folder levels into the BAIN. Once I realized I am just supposed to put the subfolder into the Bain archive, and then install the Bain archive using MO, it was easy-peasy.
  5. I'm a Pearl Jam fan, and before I became Dovakiin, role playing a rockstar in Rock Band was my gaming release. This is a video my RB friends I made in my garage. [video=youtube]
  6. I struck out at my first at bat, but I am at the plate again. ;-) Could it be that the d3d9.dll that was downloaded was not the proper one for your video card? EDIT: I went back through the ENBoost procedure, and to correct my statement above, it's not that you downloaded the wrong file, but maybe used the wrong ini settings for your video card. Then again, I could be and am probably wrong. Just learning how to do my own troubleshooting.
  7. Settings / Plugins / Fomod Installer What are the default settings? Is it enabled True and prefer True? I remember one STEP Core mod had me change it, and I forget which mod, and if I changed it back.
  8. Guys - I am having a problem, and it might be related to this. My game continues to CTD, and when it does, I am staring at Mod Organizer and a very similar "Failed to download" image like is on page 1 of this thread. Now, I dont know if it is causing the CTD, but it wasn't there when Skyrim launched, and it is always staring at me after it crashes. The one thing different about the image posted on first page and what I get, is the the file it is attempting to download and failing at has a Nexus ID of 1334 - which is Mod Organizer.
  9. I am a noob for sure, and may be of no help. I noticed you have the STEP Extended patch. Did you install ALL of STEP Extended? I just finished installing a STEP Core set-up (worked awesome) and then I thought I had figured out which of Extended I needed to use the STEP Extended patch. Come to realize the STEP Extended patch needed a bunch more of the extended mods. So, I guess I am saying, if you did not install every single extended mod, that could be your problem. Now, someone smarter can hopefully help you out. :-) Good luck!
  10. I would just like verification that I have installed this mod correctly as per STEP. Here are the related esp's: 16 Weapons & Armor Fixes_Remade.esp 59 ExplosiveBoltsVisualized.esp 60 Improved Closeface Helmets_Legendary.esp 61 imp_hel.esp (but this is not checked!) 62 imp_helm_dawn.esp 63 imp_helm_imp.esp 64 imp_help_dborn.esp 65 imp_guard_helm.esp Thank you
  11. This thread was an interesting read for sure. As a noob who just (like hours ago) completed an install of 2.2.8, I thought I would add my experiences. I started with a completely clean slate - clean skyrim, MO, everything. All mods were installed in the exact step order. At most benchmarks, I would run Boss from MO. A few times after doing so I would get the red triangle. Now, to show how little I know, I don't completely understand the difference between load order when it comes to right pane in MO (esps and such) and left pane. I am under the impression that Boss only sorts esps and esms, as I have never noticed it messing around with left pane orders (but I could be wrong). And I have noticed that red-triangle warnings in MO seemed to be only related to left pane stuff. Because the mods it was mentioning were in the correct order in right pane, but sho enough were wrong on left. Boss = right pane Red Triangles = left pane Am I even close to being correct here? Anyway, sometimes the red triangle would have 5 or 6 moves required. I would address the first one, and sometimes that resolved many of them. I did not make note of the specific ones - sorry if that would have been useful info. But i sit here now, with only Step Core mods installed in a clean install, and now I need to go back to searching forum about dummy esps (which is what brought me to this thread), and gain some confidence that I can truly deactivate a few esps (got the wisk broom icon on them) even though their are NOT corresponding bsa's in the archive tab (I unpacked everything that gave me the choice).
  12. Regarding my prior comment about Wyre Bash, I could not exactly follow the step instructions under 3.A.2, since I don't know what I am doing. I right click the bashed batch in WB, and select rebuild, and I get a dialogue box pop that says "Deactivate these mods prior to patching". In the box it says "Mergeable" and lists trapsmakenoise.esp and moveitWT.esp. They have checkboxes by them pre-checked, but which I can uncheck. My choices along with unchecking the boxes are OK and Skip.
  13. A couple other notes I found during my installation: SMIM: I had made some notes about this installation being kind of confusing, but now when I look at the guide, I think you have updated the instructions, like within the past 4 hours. I am pretty sure I skipped the tomato texture during my installation, because I don’t think the instructions had this. Also, I had made a note about “Furniture Textures†missing, but I think this is now corrected. So my only comment on this mod has to do with the (3) esp’s. I think if someone follows your guide correctly (as I hope I did) and they use MO (as is recommended) that all 3 of the esps will be installed. So the note at the bottom of the additional instructions kind of confused me, since it implies that for one of the esp’s I may have had the option to not install it. The note says “Either do not install or deactivate it.†Then, the other 2 esps have a slightly different instruction, saying those “can be disabled or deleted.†This seems very intentional on your guys part (having different instructions on the esps), but if they all get installed by default, maybe they could all have the same instruction? STEP Patch: I think a little reminder in Post Installation Housekeeping to activate the STEP Patch (either Core or Extended) would be nice, since it was downloaded first, and not activated at the time. Before I activated the Step Core Patch, I went to the detailed instructions, just to re-review. These instructions reminded me about 2 of the 3 SMIM esps which are not needed, and since I had recalled deactivated 3 SMIM esps, I had to go back and make sure I was correct in doing that. Maybe you could include a note about the third esp in the patch instructions, in that it is not needed? PS: I just noticed the No NPC Greetings is no longer required. Do I need to re-download the STEP patch? Was this mod added since last night?
  14. I see where I got confused regarding Follower Trap Safety - the reference to this mod in notes for Traps Make Noise references section 2.D (Follower Trap Safety is in 2.M). Regarding Wrye Bash: I will take notes/pics when I launch it again, which should be soon (wife thinks fixing the leaky faucet is more important than getting my Skyrim running - sheesh!)
  15. I just finished an installation of STEP:Core 2.2.8, and I made some notes regarding the instructions. Some of this might be ticky-tack stuff – ignore in that case. Skyrim Launcher Guide: In the view distance settings, guide recommends setting some options at “50%â€. I think saying “approximately half of maximum value†might be better, just because 50% kind of implies that the settings are in percentages. 1.B Skyrim Launcher Options: Instructions mention “4x†for Antialiasing. Maybe saying “4 Samples†would be better? 1.C Boss: I think the BOSS hyperlink might be incorrect. Wyre Bash Guide: Under “install and configure†note 5 should possibly indicate that the file we are instructed to delete is actually under a “oblivion†sub-directory. And maybe, that sub-directory (which is now empty) could be deleted too? 1.D.1: Skyrim.ini: The comment under Combat “this tweak is not present in the default ini and needs to be entered manually†confused me, since it appears to be related to a single line, however none of these combat items were in my default .ini, so all were entered manually. 1.D.2 Skyrimprefs_ini: Maybe remove the “Help Out†link? I went there, and it seemed the concern might be resolved. I wasn’t sure how I could help in any case. 1.E.1.2 Nvidia: Regarding this Nvidia Inspector program – do you need to add skse.exe to the Skyrim profile in order for these settings to apply when you launch Skyrim via skse? 2.C: ENBoost – In the available detailed additional instructions, the reminder to modify your skyrimprefs.ini left out the ‘i’ that precedes “presentinterval=0†2.M – Traps Make Noice: I think you can remove the reference to “Follower Trap Safety†as I don’t think that mod is still a part of step? That’s it! Well, except for one other thing I am confused about. I have never used Wrye Bash before, but I installed it as instructed. I had not even launched it until I got to the Post-Installation Housekeeping, so I did not have the bashed patch referenced in 3.A.1.3. When I did launch Wyre “for the first time in like, foreverâ€, the options being presented to me did not coincide with the 3.A.2 guide steps, so I think I need to go and read more about Wyre Bash, and then come back and (hopefully) smartly create my first bashed patch ever. After that, I will save this profile, and only start doing additional mods to a copy. Hope the above possible helps a little, and thank you all for what you do for us rookie modders.
  16. I know the (2) patches that get installed by this mod are not needed for a complete CORE install, but you might make mention of these patches at the Diverse Priests installation step (i.e. not needed with STEP Core Patch)
  17. With the installer that comes with the mod, I think you can modify your installation instructions. You dont need to select "00-core" and "17 Dawnguard...". The installer is worded differently.
  18. I use an Xbox 360 controller, and one of the nexus mods (can't advise which as site is down), and it works for pretty much everything. I just now started researching this "Chatpad" thingy, and it seems like it would be great - allowing more hotkeys, and then the occasional console command. However, it is not designed to be used with a PC, and the drivers needed are third party and give me pause. The drivers also only work with a wired controller, and I prefer the wireless. But having just a little keyboard attached to your controller is just too awesome. Would like to hear if others have tried this, or something similar.
  19. I got it to work. I was moving the wrong subfolder into the Bain archive.
  20. It was cloudy and raining. No ENB's installed. I had forget to mention that there was a campfire involved in the morning pic, and in the evening pic I was just outside eastern gate of Falkreath and the guards were nearby with torches. The first time I encountered this type of lighting was from guards torches in town. I then reinstalled the mod removing all the options. I thought the issue had went away, as my own torch did not create the problem. But as you have said, there could be other weather factors involved. I will post the issue at the nexus forum for the mod so the author can look into. I just felt obligated to mention it here since the mod is being considered for a STEP pack.
  21. Tonight I noticed that between 5:45 and 6:15AM, and then again between 6:45 and 7:30PM, the light becomes extremely white. All detail on surfaces is washed out. Can you guys check out those times and see what you get? I'm using the brightest choice (#4), and with none of the optional files. Also using ELFx. Edit: Screenshots https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221381715 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=221381543 (My game normally does look much better than the above). :-) Let me know if those links dont work, or if I have mistakenly given everyone complete access to my steam account. :-) Edit 2: I tried to duplicate it without luck. I was in a different area this time though. It might have something to do with those rock surfaces near me in those pics. Those pics were taken between Helgen and Falkreath. And my times might be off some.
  22. Glad you all found this of interest. I had originally installed all the IS files - I will re-install and remove them. The mod is definitely dark. I tried the default (darkest), and then the brightest option, and both are very dark. I also installed the torch light option. The torch light seems a bit saturated (not sure if that is correct description). As for load order, my guess is no good. :-) I have at end until advised otherwise. DoubleYou: I was tempted to try the RCRN installation before I found this dark nights mod. I still may try RCRN, but being semi new to modding, I am waiting until I am a bit more comfortable with following the instructions. Thanks for those though.
  23. Ahhh...now I realize SMIM Meshes was not part of Statis Mesh Improvement Mod, but was actually something installed by ELFx. So it looks like I have no issue with SMIM proper. But I am guessing that this 'SMIM Meshes' installed by ELFx (a patch I presume) should probably load after SMIM proper, as maybe it needs to overwrite some of the SMIM stuff to do it's lighting job? If this stuff starts making sense to me, I could be dangerous. :-)
