Dread's Skyrim Build (a STEP build)
dreadflopp replied to dreadflopp's topic in Unofficial Skyrim SE Guides
I'm planning to address everything in the coming week or two and will post again when I'm done and have checked textures and mod updates. I'll do a mod update sweep and update patches if needed first. Secondly I'll check that my guide is up to date with the latest STEP changes. When this is done and the guide is up-to-date (in about a week) I'll take a look at the conflicting or redundant textures you mentioned and at the mod suggestions, which all seems really interesting. Both should be auto-selected. If the patch for JK's Skyrim Cutting room floor patch isn't auto selected, reinstall and activate JK's Skyrim - Arthmoor's Patch Pack from JK's Skyrim nexus page. Thanks! -

Thanks! Honed Metal Voiced - Excellent, I'll add it if it works as advertised. Silver Arrows - If it don't reappears in about a week I'll remove it from the mod list. -

I don't use hdt, I don't think it looks good enough to be worth it. Skyrim's physics engine is for some insane reason tied to frame rates. Fps over 60 causes physics bugs, like objects flying around. That is why we use Havok Fix. However, playing a heavily modded Skyrim usually results in something like 40 fps for me, with some drops. I am pleased with everything over 30 fps, this is an old game with a poor game engine. Drops into 20 is a little much and the cause could be a combination of a number of things. Realistic Water Two animates the water of blacksmith troughs. Try disabling RW2 to see if that helps. If RW2 is part of the reason for the drops in frame rates you are experiencing, it could be a combination of that and JK's Skyrim. If you are having drops while it is snowing, try reducing the number of rendered particles to see if that helps: https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:SkyrimPrefs_INI/Particles -

Sorry for the late answer, I am visiting family. You have enough vram to even use 4k mods. Since you use 2k mods, you should definitely be good. You shouldn't need to worry about vram either. Script heavy mods can definitely make the game stutter and lag, especially in combat. For that reason, I have tried to minimize the use of scripted mods that run during combat. That is the reason for using Enhanced Blood Textures Lite instead of the ordinary version, as an example. Your fps drop was when you entered the forest area. Since DynDYNDOLOD replaces the 2d low-res tree lods with 3d trees it can definitely maker your fps suffer. But since it makes the game look so much better, I would try to reduce quality somewhere else: Larger or more trees casts more shadows. Try reducing the shadow quality in the ini files or skip using the larger tree option. Use a lower quality anti aliasing option. Do not use an ENB. Try lowering the resolution to 1k if you play in higher resolutions. Use DynDOLOD medium option. -

I'm playing on a i5 @4GHz and a 1070 (8 GB), 16 GB ram. But your hardware should be sufficient, not sure why it drops so much. If you are using ENB, try without it. If it is just forest areas, it might be something with the 3d forest. Try disabling the DynDOLOD folder to see if that helps. -

I have updated all mods in the guide and made sure all patches are up to date. Two patches have been updated. Make sure to read the instructions for adamant before updating to 4.x. Changelog: https://github.com/dreadflopp/dreads_modlist_patches/commits/master -

The RDO/Immersive Horses conflicts are indeed solved by the patches. If the game crashes before the main menu, a plugin is missing a master. If the game crashes when you start a new game it is a little harder to find the culprit. If this is the case, try/check the following: * Does the game start without any mods enabled * Check with vanilla .ini-files. * Try to disable the bottom half of all plugins and see if the game starts. If it doesn't, repeat until it does. When you finally manage to start a new game, start activating disabled plugins again, either one by one or in chunks and see if you can start a new game without getting a ctd. When you finally find the problematic plugin, recheck the install instructions in the guide. -

Thanks, any feedback is much appreciated. There isn't any specific texture mods that I want to add. I want to see if there is anything that can further improve the mods I use, I will check out the ones you mentioned. Ground textures is something I've been wanting too compare, maybe the complimentary pack from Majestic Mountains. I'm also going to compare different snow mods. I'm getting the dark face bug from Diverse Skyrim. I haven't had time to test if I got the quartermaster bug. -

Provincial courier service is not in the guide. I have been looking for something to replace the courier system since I don't like it but I haven't found anything. A raven (like in GoT) or something magical would be better than the annoying courier that always seems to know exactly where you are. Thanks! I have added diversity to the guide but "disabled" it for now. You can enable it by removing the code that disables it in the readme and the fomod. I need to fix the the dark face bug, it's a load order/facegen thing. I'll take a look at Phoenix to see how it's solved there. -

Let me know if you find out anything about the Diverse Skyrim bug. Still busy creating the patch. Diverse Skyrim and AI Overhaul has a lots of conflicts that are easy but tedious to solve. I'll take a look at HD Stone Quarry and Clay Deposit and the new weather Patch for Cathedral Weathers. I have updated the guide today to make sure it is up to date. No major changes to the patches. You shouldn't worry too much about losing a saved game at this point. Planned changes are, as said, Diverse Skyrim and EEO. These won't cause any problems even if they are installed mid game. Other future changes should mostly be texture and animation mods. Possibly more quest mods if anything interesting is released. These shouldn't cause any problems either. -

Thanks! I know this guide is a little too hard to find. I should do something about that :) I updated all mods 16 days ago and did all needed updates to the patches. I'll do another sweep on this Sunday or Monday. I am currently working on patches for Diversity and Ethereal Elven overhaul, which will be added if everything works and looks good. -

I've pushed some updates to the guide yesterday and today. The biggest updates besides keeping the guide up to date with mod updates, is the addition of breakdown recipes for all mod added weapons and armors and the addition of the mod High-Level Loot Rarified. Breakdown recipes is recipes for ingots that allows you to break down weapons into ingots. It is a mechanic introduced to the game by Ars Metallica. Breakdown recipes has been added to Animated Armoury, Heavy Armory and a bunch of other mods. High-Level Loot Rarified is kind of a light weight version of Morrowloots item distribution. All weapons and armors of a higher tier (glass+) is less common or even rare when using this mod. Done by a very talented mod author with an attention to detail. I have also switched to the leveled list version of Animated Armoury. Using this version is very important, otherwise the patches won't work. Edit: The next thing I am going to work on is checking out Diversity and revisit Ethereal Elven Overhaul. -
Ok, thanks! Edit: If anyone finds this post, Paint.net has a free version that supports dds with BC7.

I wanted to compare treepineforestbranchcomp.dds with the one from https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/34631 I use Enhanced Vanilla Trees SE - Custom Trees with the default option + enhanced clutter. I am not able to open treepineforestbranchcomp.dds. DDS-viewer crashes, irfanview gives an error message (Decode error). Gimp gives the following error message: Unsupported DXGI format (98). The same happens with several other textures: pineforestsnow02_N.ddssrg_pine02_2_N.ddssrg_pine02_dead_n.ddssrg_pine02_n.ddssrg_pine04_alt_n.ddssrg_pinesnowL01_n.ddssrg_treepineforestbarkcomp2_N.ddstreepineforestbranchcomp.ddstreepineforestbranchcompsnow.ddstreepineforestbranchcompsnowl.ddsIs there a problem with these textures or is there another program that can open them?

I wasn't aware of that incompatibility. Since the compatibility issue is in a script, one of the mods has to go. I'll be removing Enchantment Reload Fix from the guide. If you want to discuss Crafting Skills Revamped, Parapets who is the author is a member of Simon Magus discord: https://discord.gg/kmKrEGU. Maybe he can explain or argue for why he did those changes, I don't have a strong opinion on whether they should be fortified or not. Diveristy looks good and I may very well look into adding that into the guide. I will take the other into consideration. I'm not really insterested in switching to UNP. I have used it and I like CBBE better. I use realistic presets for CBBE which imo looks much better that UNP. The guide overall is really stable now. I have patched most things that needs patching. I am currently doing some consistency patching for the armors and weapons to make them feel like they really belong to the game and have consistent crafting recipes. I have two mods that have been suggested for inclusion over at Github, I will take a look at those two after I have done a mod update and rechecked installation instructions and patches. -
The people behind Cathedral Landscapes claims that setting bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals=1 does mainly the same thing as Better Dynamic Snow does but without the need for conflict resolution. To test this, I took some screenshots. There are only six screenshots per setting and this is on a heavily modded game using my STEP build but all basic textures are STEP. All six screenshots are around Dawnstar with the following settings (no ENB active): Better Dynamic Snow + Patches + Better Dynamic Mountains, bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals=0, bEnableImprovedSnow=0 Better Dynamic Snow + Patches + Better Dynamic Mountains, bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals=1, bEnableImprovedSnow=1 No BDS, bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals=0, bEnableImprovedSnow=0 No BDS, bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals=1, bEnableImprovedSnow=0 No BDS, bEnableProjecteUVDiffuseNormals=1, bEnableImprovedSnow=1Don't mind the LODs, I didn't rebuilt them when i turned off BDS. Thanks. I personally enjoy SimonMagus616's set of skill/combat mods. I enjoy EnaiSiaion's set of mods too, but I wanted something closer to vanilla and I don't think you'll find any other mods in this category that are made with so much consideration for vanilla-feel, balance and compatibility. The combat mods by EnaiSiaion and SimonMagus, Wildcat and Blade and BLunt, are pretty similar with Blade and Blunt being a little more toned down with a simplerinjury system and (imo) better stamina management system. -

I'lll test it again. Honed Metal - Not added to the guide but I have added it to my game to make sure it is stable. Some crashes are reported in the mods forum section. If it is stable, I'll add it to the guide. Common Clothes And Armors - Added Silver Arrows - Added Dawnguard Hoods - Added -

Does it work for you? I tried it briefly and found that it would suddenly stop showing warmth values until I reopened the inventory. I can give it another go. Frozen North is more lightweight than Survival Mode. In Frozen North, cold drains stamina and health when you're out of stamina. Eating and sleeping gives you buffs but no debuffs if you ignore them. In survival mode, the impact from cold will be more severe with more debuffs to weapon speed and moving speed. It will also nag about eating and sleeping and features dangerous diseases. Both are good, Frozen North is more lightweight and less micromanaging. -

I am slowly working through the suggestions. Here is what I've done/checked: Immersive Armors - The mod is abandoned with problems still being reported. It is not properly converted to work with Skyrim Special Edition. I am not sure how many or how serious the issues are. Rejected because of potential issues. If someone still wants to use it there are patches for it in the guides patches if you do a manual install (the Old patches folder). Jaysus Swords - Many weapons are overpowered compared to vanilla. With Jaysus installed, you can choose between crafting a vanilla steel dagger or a Jaysus steel dagger with the same ingredients but with much higher damage. Rejected because it is unbalanced. If you still want to use it, I made a patch for it which is in the Old patches folder. Dawnguard Arsenal - Added.
