Question

I'm setting up my new mod list and have installed v0221 of Project ENB along with climates of tamriel. I've been reading all over the internet (Project ENB nexus page, STEP guide, multiple online tutorials on webpages and youtube, etc.) and it's always extremely conflicted about if it's necessary.

I've heard that the unofficial Skyrim updates fix certain memory issues to allow more RAM usage on 64 bit systems, I've read that the newest versions of most ENBs include ENBoost files (which I can't verify for Project ENB), I've even read that ENBoost is obsolete at this point because the files included in ENB presets are exactly the same as ENBoost separately.

Honestly, I have no idea what to believe. I want to use high res textures along with many other mods so I know I need the increased memory limit but I don't know if I need ENBoost to get that.

I also need to know what the formula is really asking for because I've read conflicting posts about that too.

I have a GTX 970 with 4GB of video memory, and I have 16GB of ram in my system so what would I put in the formula assuming I need ENBoost? Am I supposed to check my system memory usage while playing Skyrim to see how much to subtract from the formula?

Again, I have no clue about any of this because there's very few people on the web who seem to agree. I'd really appreciate the help though.

Here's my specs in case you need to know the other parts in my PC: https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Garybenoak/SystemSpecs

So if I were to use a different ENB with newer ENB binaries like True Vision (v0236), would I need to download ENBoost also or are the included features in the newer binaries sufficient? Oh, and one more question: on the page for most ENBs, one of the steps usually says to add the following to your skyrimprefs.ini file "Open enblocal.ini and set the VideoMemorySizeMb parameter (e.g. VRAM + RAM - 2048)"

I have 4GB of VRAM and 16 of system RAM but I've heard the limit is around 10,000MB. What number should I put in?

ENBoost is included in the binary. No need to download it separately.

You don't add that to the SkyrimPrefs.ini. You change it in the enblocal.ini file that comes with the binary. The limit is technically around 128GBs now, but you're system will rarely use more that 2-3GBs for ENBoost. Just use 10240 and call it good. That is for half or your system RAM.

If you want to use ENBoost, and hence use more high res textures, you will need a high enough version of ENB (the Actual .dll) that supports it.

The ENBoost you can download at its own site is the same version, with the exception that it has a flag enabled that disables all the graphical parts of ENB leaving only the memory features.

The unofficial skyrim patches does not deal in memory per se.. they do have a few memory related fixes in the game but that is about it.

Using project ENB with newer versions of the ENB binaries (the .dll) is most likely going to require a little bit of tweaking on your own end to disable and adjust a few features that have since been added to ENB.

Sorry about that, I was thinking other settings ENBs tell you to add to the prefs file. And thanks! That was the explanation I've been looking for
