Edit out plugin from Step patch using tes5edit

Question

Posted

I want to try to edit out all references to Ars metallica from the step extended patch so I can try Complete Crafting Overhaul Remade. I also want to edit out diverse priests, which I managed to do. But it doesnt seem to work with Ars metallica. What I did was to manually chech each record in the patch using tes5edit and delete those containg Ars metallica or diverse priests in the right window. I then right clicked the patch name and choose clean masters. When checking the file header for the patch diverse priest was gone but ars metallica remains. Am I doing something wrong or have I just missed a record? Is there an easier/better procedure for finding the record I am looking for?

I think screenshots would be more useful in this case, so here you go:

1. This is what I get after right clcking on check for errors with a (semi)empty amidianborn_skyforge_weapons.esp (so that's basically what I have at step 5.

As you can see, there are 2 errors, one with 11002DC5 (skyforge steel shield), and one with 110022F6 (Wolf shield) in STEP Extended Patch (since those 2 records were in amidianborn_skyforge_weapons.esp and now TES5Edit can't find them since they've been deleted)

You can also see that I highlighted a line that mentioned quests, that's what I was referring to when I said to ignore quests, so we'll not be deleting the 00023B6C and 0004D8D6 records. (since they're both quests)

2. Here you can see the two corresponding records (11002DC5 and 110022F6) on the left pane.

Simply right click on these two and select remove, then save the file, and you should be fine.

Note that this method doesn't always work though ::):

Well, you can always try to do it this way:

1/- Open Wrye Bash and select the STEP Extended Patch.

2/- Click on the right pane and find Ars Metallica in the masters list.

3/- Right Click on ars metallica --> change to --> select an empty esp, or at least one that doesn't contain many records (for example BWS.esp and Thundering Shouts.esp which are both part of STEP, but are empty)

4/- Click the save button under the masters list.

5/- Open the STEP patch in Tes5Edit, right click it, and select Check for Errors.

6/- Delete the records that have an error in them (But do NOT delete anything in the Quest group, it is normal for those to have errors)

7/- Clean masters.

When you say delete, are you referring to undelete and disabling references or something else. Im stuck at step 6 and not sure what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for going out of your way for me. I am 300 hours into Requiem and it´s a better Skyrim for me, now I can add Complete Crafting Overhaul patch. Have a nice day !

Found this thread while trying to delete Bring out your dead from STEP extended patch.

I've done as CJ2311 said (Wrye method, changed BOYD to BWS.esp), then opened it in Tes5edit and checked for errors. It shows errors for 5 NPCS (Perth, Majhad, Marandrujo, Khayla and Atahba). Should I remove those? I feel like I shouldn't because they are also linked with several other mods ( https://i.imgur.com/dg5ZHG3.png ). What should I do?
