Question

Posted (edited)

Hey guys,

I've been having some trouble lately with periodic infinite loading screens (ILS). These don't always occur on a specific cell loading/fast travel point, rather it tends to happen when I've clocked in some time on a current play session and already have loaded a number of interior/exterior cells successfully. These occurrences were rare at the start of my playthrough, but they became more prevalent as I played some more.

I have tried Google and forum searches about this issue, but the people experiencing it would either have vanilla, Oldrim, or completely different modded setups from mine. I also use the Engine Fixes mod and have tried turning on the "Use OS Allocators" option to no avail. I'm providing a modlist as well, so I hope that helps with troubleshooting. I know as well that providing a huge modlist dump without any explanation isn't very helpful at times, so I'll try to narrow it down to some suspects.

The issue hasn't occurred when I was in first person, only third (I play third-person most of the time)- perhaps it might be due to the first person camera mod (Improved Camera) I have installed but it's a bit unlikely. I also have DynDOLOD, but that seemed to run fine even before and I've been using that mod for a while. It's unlikely because of a single mesh or texture because the ILS only happens sometimes and usually after a hard reset of my game I can load the cell again.

I'm also using Mod Organizer 2 as my mod manager.

EDIT: For some reason, spoiler tags aren't working properly for me, so I apologize in advance for the super long post.

Have you tried increasing DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB in skse.ini? I think 768 is the minimum that should be used for this setting. If you already have it set to 768, you might try increasing it to 1024 to see if it helps.

[Memory]
DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768
ScrapHeapSizeMB=256

Hey Greg, thanks for the reply.

I don't believe I even have an entry for that.

My SKSE ini is currently like this:

  Quote

[Display]

iTintTextureResolution=2048

[Debug]
WriteMinidumps=0

I don't have Skyrim SE setup with SKSE at the moment, so that setting may be only for Skyrim LE. My mom's in the hospital so it may be a fewweeks before I can get into the groove with Skyrim SE.

Does anyone have other tips or suggestions though? I played a new test save recently for about an hour without any ILS on cell transition or fast travel. Logical deduction would point to my current save being corrupted, but I don't know how that could be the case exactly. I haven't uninstalled any mods since the start of the playthrough, and the biggest change I'd say was updating DynDOLOD.

Old-ish thread but I'd like to say I've been running into this issue again, even upon starting a new save. It didn't start right away though, only when I clocked in a bunch of hours and my character was Level 10. Happened twice while I was fast travelling already. A quick note though- the background ambience and music still seems to play in this ILS state, with the loading screen pointers still cycling through normally.

This is gonna be a hard thing to troubleshoot since on all the new test saves I've tried, I didn't get any issues; only on saves that were getting older, like this recent one.

No mod uninstalls or anything like that on this save too.

Just looking over your load order, you have a large number of script-heavy plugins so I have to wonder if this may be causing or exacerbating the issue.

I've already done away with a bunch of plugins though (Legacy of the Dragonborn, OSA, a lot of other smaller ones). Regardless I'll try to see which plugins I can disable via MCM on this current playthrough.

I've already tried disabling Wet and Cold but even that wasn't enough lol

EDIT: I've disabled iNeed since that's probably one of the more resource intensive ones. I do have others like TK Dodge and Ultimate Combat, but they only add to script and game load during combat.

I used the script and it said my load order has a total of 201722 references. Nowehere near the suggested warning limit of 900k according to aers, so I don't think my problem could lie there.

I also am having occasional infinite loading screens.  There doesn't seem to be any ryme or reason or common denominator other then playing for a time.  It takes a while of playing normally, though I just had one that was rather earlier then the usual.  1/2 an hour as opposed to the normal, of over 2 hours of play.  Only a level 5 character.  I also don't believe it is texture/mesh related.  I have a fairly heavily modded game, probably around 350 or more esps merged to 215 there-abouts  I also am running dyndolod.  I find it happens mostly on cell changes though not always.  The not always ones are fairly rare though.  I will expand my load order and post it here in a spoiler tag in case someone is working on this and it is helpful.  I just thought I would contribute to the conversation.  Well I guess the count is actually 436 esps.  If there does seem to be some weirdness to the load order such as a patch being above it's master, that is probably an expanded merge.  I couldn't order the merges after expanding them without a crapload of extra work, but I did put them just above the merged esp in the load order.

I don't believe i have a lot of heavily scripted mods.  No needs or frostfall types.

so far what i picked up from Martimius'  and my load order is Mirai follower,  we both have a lot of dialogue mods we both use medieval lanterns, better dynamic snow, Arthmoor's villages, Archery gameplay overhaul, N follower framework, sexlab amorous adventures and a lot of others, but these stick out for some reason.  So froztee if you post your load order, maybe we can get to the bottom of it.

I am also having issues with ILS but its not consistent. Seems to happen for me on fast travel or on rare occasion after exiting the cave after intro. I have finally dialed in my xlogen, textgen, dyndolod specs. Im not sure why the game is having a spaz as im running a Ryzen 9 5950x 64gb of ram and a RTX 3090 24gb card. game uses only 9-15% cpu and the memory siotting at 24%.

I think I have my MOD order right in MO2 and loot does its thing so. Im still 62 esp/esm away from my limit and have 928 esl running enb.
