Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Recommended Posts

Hi Neovalen and everyone else. I created this account for the sake of this post (for now). First off I want to say that SR:LE is awesome. I recently decided to try Skyrim and the game is certainly good, but I found I loved the modding part and probably have spent more time on that than playing the game. Initially I was building off of a Realvision install, but wanted a more complete install. Then I found this! Now, many hours later, I seem to be up and running.

So thanks.

While I was doing my SR:LE install, I kept track of the issues that came up, issues only a noob like myself would stumble over. These are not issues with the actual mod, that is over my head. Rather, these are some things that came up with the instructions. I figured I would write them up so the web page could maybe be better yet. Anyway, here are the issues/recommendations I have:

1) The UNP model mod is pasted into the middle of the RS children mod, cuts it in half

2) BOSS Gui needs to be run once (I was using LOOT prior) and followed the instructions for setting up boss.exe. However, default BOSS.exe only updates the masterlist and does not sort. I had to run bossgui and change the settings before I could sort the mods.

3) "Special Installation" needs to stand out more. I actually downloaded the html, replaced "Special installation" with "<pre>special installation</pre>" just so I didn't miss anything. There are 90 of them and easy to miss one if not careful. Could consider the same for Optional downloads

4) You advise changing the SKSE.ini iTintTextureResolution to 2048, but don't offer any new tints. The lips and warpaints look VERY blocky when upscaled like this. I like how you keep things vanilla when appropriate. Maybe consider adding mods like these:
XCE warpaint and dirt : https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29977
Mature Skin new lips : optional -Tintmasks

5) Just a thought, is it worth removing all the ModNameREADME.txt files? It clutters the install instructions.

6) Septim HD install is a little unclear. Maybe explicitly instruct to set the data folder to "mipmaps"

7) Subliminal Traps 2: advised to use RLO (Tripwire). Not totally obvious which option that is.

8) FCO already is in BOSS and you suggest a rule, but don't mention an override... is unclear

9) "Real Shelter.esp AFTER ELFX – Dragonborn.esp" but the mod is actually "RealShelter.esp" no whitespace and is already in BOSS

10) "TheChoiceIsYours_Dragonborn.esp AFTER TheChoiceIsYours_Dawnguard.esp " another rule already present. Override?

11) Running the Tes5edit for Real Shelter is described before better fast travel, but it is dependent on BFT.

12) You mention editing Skyrimprefs.ini at the end, but then don't actually list any edits. Confusing.

13) Some handholding for installing FNIS might help. I was already familiar with it, but the new user might get lost.

So there you go. Thank you again for the great project. I hope this was useful/helpful.

Hi guys,

wanted to ask for help regarding the "volcanic tundra" textures: For my taste, the SR:LE solution does contrast too much with other textures, it always sticks out and transitions look out of place. Also it is overall too bright/shiny, especially in sunny weather (with Vividian ENB installed).

Does anybody have an alternative that does fit the surrounding landscape/textures better?

There are a few scuffles over appropriateness of distribution at the moment due to the original author electing to hide the original mod - might want to wait for clarification of permissions to settle before using.

EDIT : TheUnexpected has now clarified the permission from Nuska.

Now the question is if the unp textures are in the archive... I haven't had time to d/l yet.

There is a UNP Compatibility option in the mod that matches up to the instructions in the guide, but I haven't tested it in-game.

Does anyone know which mod assigns F2 to a spell or, at least, how to check which keys are assigned to functions?  I'm not even sure what spell it is, I was just trying to set equipment to F2 via SkyUI but when I press F2 a green spell is cast.  It isn't an aggressive spell, at least it didn't upset the mage in Whiterun when I hit him with it, and the equipment still works simultaneously but I'd like to reassign the spell if I could.  I've looked through all of the mcm menus and I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks.

edit:  Never mind, I finally found it.  It's "Come Together N Out of the Way/Nausicca's Tweaker" of all things.

Did a quick update this evening, didn't have time to do an overly thorough check due to real life. If you guys find anything I missed please let me know and I will fix as soon as I can.

Known things still out of date:

XPMS Extended (Waiting for 2.21 release so NPCs can match race menu modded weapon positions)

Dagi-Raht Race Reborn (Need to evaluate if proper replacement for the original mod)

Improved Closefaced Helmets (Need to re-evaluate latest version with Apop patch)

Vividian ENB (just didn't have time to go through the process of merging and re-running scripts and such tonight)

That being said, I expect updates to slow significantly for the coming months but I'm not giving up on things. :) (Real life holiday obligations, Dragon Age: Inquisition (amazing!), BF4, Witcher 3, BF: Hardline, etc... etc...)

Any and all help will be appreciated.
