Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Try installing Memory Blocks Log by Sheson - this will allow you to see if your issues are due to insufficient memory.

Here is the Memory Block Log. Note that the game is crashing well before hitting 512MB. Does that indicate that the 4K textures/Memory issues are NOT the cause of the crashes, and that therefore I don't need to replace 4K textures with 2K textures?

If replacing my 4K textures withj 2K textures is still advisable, what is the best way to accomplish this? Go through each mod on the Skyrim Revisited list? Or are there say a core set of mods whose textures I will want to replace?

Thanks.

Ugrids to load was at originally at 7, but in Mod Organizer's configurator, I moved it back to 5 and began a new game (which this log is taken from).

Do iMaxAnistopy and iMultiSample and iShadowMapResolution settings also affect stability/crashing? I have lowered these but still encounter crashes.

You're using a lot of 4k textures recreationally (for general gameplay not screenarchery) you're crazy (imo) you should go with 2k I can almost guaranteed you'll have much fewer issues.

As for spoiler there isn't a button you have to input the following

I have all my cleaned masters in in one folder named clean masters. When I activate the cleaned masters mod I get a lightning bolt under the flags section in MO. Why do you think that is? Also when I open up the file tree I have a meta ini. in there. Should that be there?

Edit. After running the game it crashed after the guardian stones again. I started MO and the lightning bolt was gone. after unchecking the cleaned masters mod and rechecking it the lightning bolt returned. Don't know if I will have time tonight but may have found the reason for my crashes. But why do you think I am getting the lightning bolt?

So just past the guardian stone area is a pretty normal place for a crash.  It's essentially near the loading cell for Riverwood.  One thing you could try is to walk up through the Windhelm docks, as that's another memory intensive place that often induces a crash if there is a memory problem.  So it can be either Ram or Vram related if thats the case.  Are you using an ENB with the Enbboost settings to help with Vram issues? Are you using Sheson's SKSE patch for memory?   Are you using too many 4k textures or have a graphic card without much Vram?   Are your ini settings too aggressive?  etc etc

Question

One quick question: BOSS suggest to add some bash tags to certain mod files including update.esm, dawnguard.esm and some unofficial skyrim patches. It's not specifically listed in the guide to add the suggested tags to those files. May I ask why this is the case? Are we supposed to not tag them at all? Furthermore, is it adviced to (not) tag them when using overhauls like Requiem?

In general, the bash tags aren't quite clear to me. I know they have something to do with items and leveled lists but I still don't know what it really does.

I should probably create a topic elsewhere on the forum with this question since it doesn't just apply to SR:LE. I just couldn't find the right spot to post it though.

Mod Suggestion

Furthermore, @Neovalen et al. I have an awesome but simple mod suggestion: No Snow Under the Roof

What does it do:

  • It adds 3D snow on top of roofs and other places, instead of a flat texture based snow.
  • It removes snow that is under roofed structures and overhang. i.e. Forges and doorsteps.

It's really a great immersive mod. I haven't tested it myself but from what I see in the videos, it looks absolutely great!

If you open Wyre BASH, you find those already have the BASH tags applied. Thus there is not need to add them.

Big news of the day, SR:LE has a new recommended ENB: Vividian - Weather - Lighting and Climates of Tamriel Enhancement. I think you will find this ENB has a lower performance hit and is specifically designed with CoT in mind. I've been having a blast playing with it enabled recently. Some possible tweaks to come (likely the DoF will change) but it's enough to get started with it.

I will also be integrating ELE interior lighting but it will be a bit before I add it due to conflict resolutions, so be patient. :)

I notice the default file has VideoMemorySizeMb set to 2000 instead of 2048. Is there any real difference between the two? I assume 2048 is fine and ^2 works OK, I just noticed it.

Under [MEMORY], set VideoMemorySizeMb=X. Where X the amount of VRAM your system has. 1GB = 1024, 2GB = 2048, 3GB = 3072, 4GB = 4096, etc.

Typo in ENGINE ;)

Under [ENBINE], set ForceLodBias=true and LodBias=-1.0. This is an optional step that will increase texture sharpness but may increase texture shimmering.

Fixed Typo.

As for the memory setting... 2000 won't "hurt" but it should be ^2 to use all the available memory. Basically your ignoring 48 MB of video memory leaving it as 2000.
