  1. I assumed so too, but was uncertain. I have ATI, so I can check. ... will this work on a totally vanilla game? I am keeping a clean install as I finish my current round of benchmarking ;) PS: I take great pride in being the boss of nobody :P
  2. Can we get the perceived solutions copied over to an appropriate thread on the INI Tweaks forum ? If this is NVIDIA-specific, that should probably also be noted. Thanks!
  3. Opps! I did not know that ... I also hadn't noticed your EDIT to your post (that I quoted on that thread). I fixed my reduntancy over there ;)
  4. good to know. I will inform Ethatron and cite you and your findings ... thanks!
  5. It is important to note that if anyone is running Xfire or SLI and using GPU-Z to assess, you will need to divide all memory figures by 2, as GPU-Z reports the additive memory allocation, even though GPU memory is functionally acting in parallel. The 2k packs, after DDSopt use about 1,800/2 = 900 Mb of VRAM (that includes optimized HRDLC underneath), so this works fine until a bunch more is added. With DDSopt, it may be possible to operate within the constraints of VRAM on 1 Gb cards even with full STEP. I have yet to test though, so stay tuned. Also note that one can also operate without stutter up to about 1.5x combined VRAM capacity according to my testing. I will address my theory behind this fact in the guide as well. So, this means that you ultimately want to keep your eye on that combined VRAM figure and keep it under 1,500 Mb max for 1 Gb cards.
  6. @s4n exactly right I have always been annoyed by this in all TES games to more or less extent. Compounded I think by shaders and post-processing.
  7. thanks Vond. I knew about the former, but not the latter. I will confirm and add this info this evening.
  8. Thank you kind Sirs! :deep bow:

  10. I think that article applies very well indeed to the underlying concepts of off-planet mining and my nay-saying of the intent of the miners (even though they actually ARE apparently looking for water!). Great article ... people don't like to acknowledge the basic facts of thermodynamics and a closed system. I like the "idea" (or I would argue "reality") that true evolution is the realization that (change & development) = "growth" = sustainability . Thanks!
  11. I think that Fri only meant that you may have deviated slightly since you piled everything together and zipped, but that it is all the same in the end and no matter, as long as you don't mind the permanent overwrites. Keeping separate allows for more fine-tuned installations (only really useful in this case to benchmarking and testing). You did it right ;)
  12. I like the new nm much more as well as the ice.... however, I was also referring to the entire image held within the video frame compared to vanilla. Vanilla seems yellowed all around, while SROHD is crisper and clearer... much like the effect of a lighting mod. just wondering if this is purely the effects of your textures and that nothing weird is going on ....
  13. @s4n It sounds like you and Mad are properly educated on this particular subject and that my relative ignorance is being guided by my pessimistic nature I certainly love the idea of exploration and knowledge gain --if not solely for the sake of adventure an knowledge themselves alone ;)
  14. We will probably use the default Imperial Base Camp map marker. Will implement shortly
  15. Agree with Monty on all points. Life is cyclic, and our lives have existed on a peak of monumental proportions that rapidly spiked during the 19-21st centuries in concordance with the harvesting of oil as our fundamental resource. Oil has already seen its peak discovery/production, and the 'human peak' will lag shortly behind it. It is a simple inevitability, and life will definitely go on and flourish as a result as long as we avoid a nuclear holocaust (i.e., Fallout 3 scenario). Even then, life will eventually flourish again As a steward of the Earth, this seems a positive outlook indeed in the long game :D
  16. All I see from this is a bunch of greedy humans bringing new materials into a closed system and creating toxic biproducts that would otherwise not be added. I am of course assuming that they will attempt to mine precious metals and rare minerals rather than something useful like water.
  17. thanks ;)
  18. I think that you did everything correctly; however, I'd like Fri to confirm, as he is the expert on the HRDLC fix and how that works (I manually fixed my stuff and just pointed to Fri's instructions in the other guide to avoid re-creating that wheel :P) For 7z, you want a compressed archive. Takes awhile, but it is worth it. You DO NOT want to have the HighResTexurePack0*.esp ticked in the Mods Tab. They should not overwrite, but they will use up plugin slots. At this point you only need the two esms ticked. Bashed Patch is not necessary. If you don't see a texture diff, then it is because you are just used to HRDLC The point is that you are now using less VRAM with the optimized textures. You should also install Vano89's optimized HRDLC, as that will save you even more VRAM (see the numbers in the wiki table) If the 7z installer has a green or yellow box with a '+' sign in the Installers Tab of WB, then rest assured that it is installed.
  19. I invited Kranazoli a while back and it looks like he is registered. We are coming up with many good ideas out here about site development. Let's move over to that admin thread an flesh out.
  20. To clarify the following from the DDSopt guide: You can use 7z, WinZip, WinRar or whatever compression program you prefer to package into a *.7z, *.zip or *.rar archive. Then you can drop this Wrye's Bash Installers directory and install using that app. If you want to go back to a BSA, then you can use DDSopt for that by setting [ignore] > [Don't process any of the know file types] and by sending the output to point to "YourOutputPath\YourFileName.bsa". I don't recommend doing that, as then you will need to register the BSA and use one or more plugin slots, not to mention it slows load time just a tiny bit (and it is just more complicated). Maybe I will add this explanation to the wiki guide. Thanks for using it and asking these questions ... that is how things get improved upon ;)
  21. I think that will give you a 10-25% bump, depending. With your mobo, it should be closer to 25%
  22. We think alike... here is mine: "If it exists, tweak it." :D Seriously though, I totally agree with Monty in the idea of the official guide on the Nexus, a table on the wiki linking to the Farlo wiki mod details (i.e., the templates) as well as the dedicated STEP Archives forum threads. This makes for scads of info that is easily traceable and forums would be the collection point of latest info used to update the others ... ??
  23. 17.93 i5-760 OC @ 4.0GHz (20*200) 8Gb RAM @ 1600 2Xfire ATI 6850 (1Gb) OC ~10% (my home box) This is the Xfire bump!
  24. the guide only refers to the beth vanilla texture packs which will require 3 separate runs at about 1-2 hour each.
  25. Do you mean all installed textures or just one of the overhauls? All STEP textures could take up to 24 hours, but vanilla HR should take about 1-3 hours, depending.
