STEP and Skyrim 1.6 [Official] Bug Reports
z929669 replied to frihyland's question in General Skyrim LE Support
IMO, 1.6 is yer another useless update. I cannot believe taht Steam has not addressed their own broken updating system with regard to enabling/disabling. s4n is the man with SU. Go endorse that one if you have not already... it deserves consideration for mod'O'the month. -
ATI radeon supports app profiles with CrossfireX drivers. Also see the wiki guide for ATI config tips.

2020. I have been hypothesizing that around that year, the entire world will change in a fundamental way for humanity... and sorry, but realistically, much for the worse. Shortages in water and oil being the functional basis, but a more fundamental flaw in human nature is the core issue. Until we can ALL be happy having what we need rather than what we want, embrace change rather than stubbornly adhere to stability, socialize the system rather than incentivise ongoing disparity, ... (n). Human-induced climate change is a looming threat that cannot be averted at this point, but that is at least 50 years ahead before the real impact (rising sea levels and dessertification) is realized. Again, sorry to put a damper on any of you optimists, but these are mathematical certainties with variables defined only by time. MW25, I do subscribe to many of the author's views in that modern, industrialized nations with the infrastructure necessary to produce the products of innovation are more interested in profit margins and exclusive, short-term gains than social evolution; whereas more 'hungry', up-and-coming nations with real innovative drive lack the infrastructure to fully implement it in a world of waning resources largely consumed by the few and less needy .... ... I just try not to think about it too much and live my life as a well-meaning, socially conscious hedonist :P EDIT: and cheers to Fri's observations RE education. This may be the biggest fundamental breakdown of all, but also due to points made above IMO.

Moss is not defined as foliage in Ethatron's algorithm. That is why he will need to weigh in. RE SRO. It certainly will not hurt to run on any texture pack now, especially those with foliage. There are some handy new features in the latest ED that optimize the mipmaps in ways that modders are likely not employing. Again, I will let Ethatron elaborate/confirm that.
-
detail in the moss will be gained in lower mipmaps as one backs away. That is why you see less difference in trees in the foreground. Ethatron's algorithms affect mips. However, the moss situation is a slightly different issue, and I defer to Ethatron on that one. Seems to me that the gain far outweighs the loss though, and it would also seem that the perceived gain increases proportionally with the demand placed on the GPU in terms of distance detail, shadows and possibly AA and AF (but of the latter two, I am uncertain if there is any basis in theory).

I can include a link in the posting guidelines and an announcement I suppose -
Yep, same in Chrome... good to know, thanks ;)

SKYRIMLE Followers Keep Up (Skyrim Workshop Mod)
z929669 replied to sgtnapalm's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
Only a matter of time before this or another like is shows up on the Nexus. But I don't think that is a requirement anyway, as long as players can acquire the file independently. I don't understand why this isn't built into the game already .... -
That works great, thanks will use that for now. I still want this beautiful site we have here to be used to the fullest though, but I am patient kindaI see the difference clearly now, foreground (hanging leaves) still looks slightly better in 1st one in my opinion but the mipmaps (branches) are radically improved in the second. Overall a pretty substantial improvement, the trees are definitely not Aspens though (those are the gorgeous trees outside of riften). I should have mentioned the tabs option... just a bit trickier flipping between with the mouse is all. Win Photo Viewer is nice for that kind of thing. Just use the arrow keys. I was thinking that the aspens might be near Riften, but did not know the code to COC there and check (I did not think that those gnarly things looked like aspens , but who knows what Beth might have named them). I'll do some compares for that next (probably later this evening).

I believe you mean that the image at right looks fuller than the image at left in the previous posts, no?
-
All you need to do is save the images to your HDD and use Windows image viewer to click back and forth The latter are PNG + BMP, so they take longer to load... but not if you save them locally ;)
-
Nope, did not reverse The first is NOT more full in the least, sorry to say. Look carefully at both the tree in the foreground as well as in the background & quickly flip back and forth between the two. Also note the other plants and rocks, especially in the distance. The image on the right has more detail, and more foliage The proof would be to compare in Compressonator. Left is vanilla, right is DDSoptPre3 and right is diff (SOME diff is due to juxtaposition of some tree branches, but that only applies to the tree in the foreground [and the water to some degree maybe] but NOT trees & rocks in the background.) [Note that I produced these using ultra settings in SKR Options] [Also note the frame-rate diff between Vanilla and DDSopt-ed using ultra settings!]
-
.... and finally. this is a compare of what I believe to be the aspen (I have not verified though Confirmed NOT the aspen!). Regardless, I think that it is clear that the new PreIII is adding foliage, and I think it is ovearall improving quality of all textures: First is vanilla followed by DDSopt PreIII:

Good advice. We need a few post-processing-knowledgeable modders to work on a Wiki guide to PP (MW25, Vond, s4n, and Fri all come to mind for starters ...). Of course, this is just my own selfishness, as I have played very little with PP variants and would like to pick a setup from a few screens and follow the instructions ;)

DDSopt Pre III RUN III:Loose files: Pre5b Suggested Settings Skyrim - Textures + cleaned&corrected ( HighResTexturePack01 + HighResTexturePack02 ) --> Skyrim - Textures (opt) + Dkyrim - HR_Textures (opt) (this is my personal vanilla game pack) Settings: Run Time approx 00:33:00 (no errors) --> 187.2 Mb texture reduction after cleaning redundancies. [log attached] Vanilla.7z

One problem is that the compression options are grayed out on the Constraints tab if Apply > Compress all known image formats (PNG, BMP, etc.) is UNticked. IMO, this option should be configurable since Apply > Re-compress and re-mip all textures (DDS) IS ticked. This behavior makes me think that DDSopt will NOT re-compress my DDS files (contrary to the Apply menu settings) unless I force compression of ALL image formats. So during my run to process the vanilla textures that I will be using in my own game, I am running with both Apply menu options ticked, but after, I will need to eliminate all of the converted PNG --> DDS files under textures/interface/books/ and copy over the vanilla PNG files. I'd rather they be copied over without conversion at all in the first place, whilst being assured that all of my DDS textures have been considered for processing by DDSopt. Hope that makes sense.

DDSopt PreIII RUN II: Skyrim - Textures --> Skyrim - Textures (opt2) Run Time (roughly the same as above) - no errors [log attached] Skyrim - Textures (opt2).7z
