  1. Little splashes of pine variation are great. Looking forward to seeing more
  2. New pines would be fantastic ... maybe some Austria pine? They are shorter/stouter and have long, thick needles and very prominent cones. The pines in the above screen are a great add. Is there a performance hit? Are these replacement models or new ones? I posted some bark compares on one of our 2.2.1 release threads
  3. IN regards to Skyrim version, that could be worded a little better in the guide. The reason Skyrim version is important, is because it plays a big part in our testing. But by no means is the STEP guide meant to be limited to specific versions. The reason I thought It might be important is just the period it time STEP was last updated. By the looks of the changelog a lot of the mods are obsolete/broken at this point because not only has the game updated but all the mods I'm being asked to apply are no longer the same mods they were back in september when 2.2.0 was released because they are all updated and different now as well. Also some of the mods ARE version dependent and either should/shouldn't be run with a newer version of skyrim, no? Does anyone know the status on 2.2.1? Is it very closely nearing release? If it will be released soonish I will gladly just wait for the smoothest experience but if it will be a while I can try and tinker with 2.2.0a. It is true that some mods will be version specific (bug fix, new feature, etc.). The version specific information (I did not make clear) is related to the mods themselves. Since mods do get updated, following any version of STEP assumes you are on the latest version of Skyrim. That is why Skyrim version is important in our testing, primarily because we will always test against the latest version, and never previous ones. We also don't specifically call out the versions of mods that are used in the guide (unless a specific version has to be used for whatever reason). So I guess the point is, if your Skyrim is not at the latest version, you could stumble across problems with mods regardless of which version of STEP you follow. There will be cases where certain mods won't work anymore, but they should be very few. As for a release date for STEP 2.2.1, we don't have one yet. Still some work to do on our end. Ok thank you very much. I will go ahead and fully update and follow the 2.2.0a guide as closely as I can then. I'm excited as all hell to try this out! haha It is best to use the older versions of all mods you have still from 2.2.0. Forcing updates will only increase the chances of a problem. Update only the fixes and the interface mods, and try to leave the rest alone if possible. That's not realistic, as a lot of mods don't have the older versions available. In some cases, that could cause more problems. STEP doesn't tie mod versions, nor should it. The important aspect is Skyrim version, and updating mods will be important in keeping things happy. He implied that he had already downloaded the mods in his previous install some time ago Given that, my advice is very realistic and definitely best practice ....

  5. Nice work ;)
  6. Yes, we really have a long way to go to test the whole thing ... at a certain point, we will need to put a hard stop on letting anything else new into 2.2.1
  7. Me too. I have been running these together for awhile now. There is another one with dice games for taverns.
  8. Discussion thread: Cover Khajiits by mrLenski Wiki Link From Spiffyman: Coverkhajiits to cover the Khajiits. BBR also does khajiits, but after using them both (Spiffyman) felt like coverkhajiits was a better choice for the khajiits. Coverkhajiit don't seem to affect the body textures however (or at the very least it doesn't seem as big a change as the faces).
  9. I agree about fog. In TES3-4, for was more appreciated. In reality, particles in the air create this effect over large distances (unless you are waaaay up high maybe), so this really provides a feeling of distance in-game as well. Ahhh Sweden. Never been, but would love to go ...
  10. The STEP 2.2.1 preview guide has the complete INI instructions for all changes that are necessary. Use that, and be sure to remove the custom INIs from the game-user path and start from scratch. The tearing could be that you do not have vsync enabled under [Display] ... set iPresentInterval=1.
  11. I just went to investigate this...all black for me too! Thanks for corroborating. I have walked into that room a dozen times on my DDSopt'ed textures, but never noticed this (but I used the pre5b on those, so they might not be affected, but will check). This does not mean that I haven't missed it all one-dozen times though :P
  12. Good point ... moving that one too :P
  13. Thanks! ... now, to find the time to investigate in the CK ....
  14. Love those new pines ... however, if you are going for Scots Pine, then there would be orange-ish bark on the mid-upper areas, and the trunks are usually not very straight. Nevertheless, these look fantastic. Maybe they are a different species of pine? EDIT1: did some looking around, and it appears that Scots Pine will grow as indicated in the screens, but only in a plantation when they are cultivated to do this. EDIT2: "0008f504" (grass on road)EDIT3: I just finished updating the v1.75 images in the gallery for a less distracting compare.
  15. Great work Neovalen. I moved this to the adjacent forum so that the 2.2.1 release threads maintain the spotlight under "STEP Related"
  16. Can we have some names for those textures? (Try going into the console and mouse-clicking on the texture, then write down the FormID that prints back in the console. The texture can be isolated using the FormID in the CK ... or so Vurt tells us).
  17. @Ethatron Q.7: In previous questions and answers Ethatron discussed how DDSopt recomputes mip-maps and uses a different approach (partial derivatives-based) to allow good quality compression with normal maps. There are also some other texture types beyond the standard color map and the normal maps. Does DDSopt do anything special for these texture types?
  18. DDSopt does everything OT does and more (probably with greater precision too). No need to use both.Updated the OP ... now I need to generate another question for Ethatron ... anyone have a question to pose? I have many, but am too unprepared to ask now.
  19. You're right. Nothing not to like. Vurt, your work is amazing! PS...I do believe you're missing or changed your rock texture as well in those last comparisons, Z. Yes, I noticed that too. It looks like I had AOF mountains installed in those runs .... :? ... Vanilla in every other respect
  20. The 1.75 compares are up, and this latest version has very little not to be happy about. Great trees ... snowy, half-snowy, green pines, aspens, bushes, brush, grass .... all look fantastic now (with tip-top LODs to match). Last thing on my wish list is adopting some of the old, swampy barks reminiscent of vanilla and TreesHD, especially on the cypress trunks (the big, ropy, thick ones) This post has evidence to support dropping Lush Trees (in addition to Lush Grass) from SFO. LT could become relevant again, it it is made to accommodate the variety of SFO trees instead of making them all 20% taller and fuller. I would like to see dead pines, short pines tall, etc.
  21. Yep. You just need to reference the enbseries.ini that comes with 0.139 and add/subtract the diff to SkyRealism version (but keeping the SkyRealism values). It looks like some of the SR lens [CAMERAFX] settings need an update.
  22. I will try to get all of your new material downloaded and installed tonight (probably early morning for you though) ... then throw some more images up for compare. I think I have all of STEP textures installed now, so I should have the necessary aesthetic backdrop aside from pure vanilla.
  23. I like the idea of lilly pads and reeds. Definitely, they belong in still, shallow water wherever it is warm enough (they are temperate seasonal plants). Duck weed in these areas would also be nice (it just looks like a lime-green speckled covering over very still water around reed base and lilly pads).
