Free (or Cheap) Games & Giveaways
Nebulous112 replied to EssArrBee's topic in General Game Discussion
Quite a lot of free stuff available right now: Company of Heroes 2 is free on Humble Bundle. Humble Bundle has had a few different free games out in the past few days, only for a short period at a time (a couple days I think). So be on the lookout for more - I've already missed a couple myself. :-/ Plants vs. Zombies: GotY Edition is free on Origin. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is free on UPlay. Also, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, LIMBO, and a bunch of other games are free on GOG Connect if you already have them on Steam. It's the first time I have seen BGII:EE on GOG Connect, but I don't religiously check it. The really neat thing about the GOG editions of the Beamdog Enhanced Editions is they come with a serial code for an original copy of the game. So if you get them through GOG Connect, it is like two free games instead of one! In your game library, click on the Enhanced Edition and navigate to the serial codes, and go to the website to get the original game added to your library. Edit: Wording, GOG --> Humble Bundle -

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's only an issue with ENB or ENBoost. That makes sense to me; sounds like a good plan. -

Ahhh, my mistake. I misunderstood you...I thought you were suggesting that the DX9 runtimes should only be installed if tests determine that they are missing. I was suggesting that every Windows 10 user install the runtimes anyway. And yeah, I've definitely had it happen to me before when I reinstalled Windows 10. It's frustrating that Microsoft didn't include all the old runtimes. It's not like it is a huge amount of disk space. -

It really won't hurt to install the DirectX Runtimes anyway. That way for sure no one would crash due to this... That is how STEP does it, and I think it makes sense. If it does no harm, then why not. But that is just my two cents, lol. Maybe Lexy and co. will see it your way, it's not like there have been droves of people reporting crashing due to this in the forum (or it would have been in the SRLE LotD guide by now). *shrugs* Edit: Wording. Edit 2: Typos, also specify which guide I mean. -

How about something like: Problem: Windows 10 doesn't include the correct DirectX 9 runtimes required for ENB. Solution: 1) Download the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010). 2) Create a new folder to store the extracted runtimes (for example, "C:\DX9 Runtimes"). 3) Run the downloaded executable ("directx_Jun2010_redist.exe") to extract the files to the folder you just made. 4) Open the folder and run "DXSETUP.exe" to install the runtimes. -

Hey Lexy, FYI, version typo: aMidianBorn Textures for Immersive Armors is actually v1.1 (in the guide it is 1.0). Edit: Also, is there any reason that the install order in the guide is the following? - 1) Complete Crafting Overhaul Remade 2) Clothing and Clutter Fixes 3) Weapons and Armor Fixes Kryptopyr mentions on each one of those Nexus pages that it is recommended to be opposite: 1) Weapons and Armor Fixes 2) Clothing and Clutter Fixes 3) Complete Crafting Overhaul Remade That is also how LOOT sorts the plugins. Not sure if it matters - I don't know enough to tell you whether the scripts and stuff that are some of the overrides are the same or not. -

Hey Lexy, Just noticed that Improved Closefaced Helmets for Undeath is listed as v1.0 in the guide, but is v1.01 on the SRLE - LotD Nexus page. Edit: Also, just wondering if you know about the "Bashed ESP" optional for Craftable Horse Barding. Looks like it was released a few months after the last version update. Adds bash tags to the file. -

Hey Lexy, Regarding Better Circlets HQ - the mod itself is v1.1 (I still have the original from before the original Nexus page was taken down). It makes sense to me that that version number should be beside the mod name, whereas the STEP version number be only beside the file name (because STEP isn't modifying the file when they update). But maybe that's just me. :-P Besides that though, the filename for the STEP file is actually "STEP Compilation Installer - High Res - v2.10.0a". Just thought I'd give you a heads-up! Edit: Also, is there any reason why Skyrim Weapon De-LARP-ification Project overrides Better Shaped Weapons in the guide? Most other guides do it the other way around (like STEP), as Better Shaped Weapons is quite a bit newer (and many consider better). It just doesn't have everything that De-LARP-ification does. Edit 2: Also wondering about Greatsword Sheaths and Scabbards Redux. Guide uses v2.7.3, but there is a 2.7.4b under Updates that apparently fixes a normal maps issue. It is a beta though. Not sure if using the older version was an intentional choice or not. -

It is definitely mods, assuming your hardware meets specs. There have been quite a few updates to the guide recently. Go through and make sure you are up-to-date. This will ensure there is no discrepancy between patches or whatever that may have updated half-way through your install. You want everything to be a snapshot in time as far as version updates, etc. go. What I like to do is when I have finished the guide, go through from the beginning again, checking everything to make sure I didn't miss an obvious step. Things like special instructions, removing important files (not readme files or .bsl files, as those don't matter, but meshes or textures or plugins, etc.), copying files. Even whole mods I have missed installing and caught on a second look. Again, the guide is so huge that it is very possible you screwed up a step. What I mean by this is just take 10-30 seconds per mod to check the instructions you can verify quickly, and move on. Just a quick double-check. Takes more time, but ensures everything is good to go. You can check for updates and double check for errors in instruction at the same time, and there's a good chance you will find your issue. Another idea is to check anything you are particularly unfamiliar with. Maybe you are unfamiliar with LOOT, so you think you are adding the metadata right, but you are not. Same with Merge Plugins, or xEdit, or w/e. Bad ENB ini settings could definitely cause issues as well, that's another good place to look. Anyway, good luck! Edit: Wording -

Thanks Lexy, definitely appreciated. Everything you and Darth and Nozzer, etc. do to keep this guide polished and up-to-date is the reason it's the best guide of its kind around. :-) Also, wanted to report one version typo. SkyTest Less Fear Patch is listed as v1.0, when on the SRLE Extended Nexus page it is v1.01. -

No need to start over, lol. That's the beauty of MO - each folder is kept separately (so nothing is ever permanently overwritten and lost), and you can mimic installation order with priority order. Just drag and drop the mod in the left pane. When updating a mod, I usually note what priority number it is, untick it, remove it, then install the new one, move it into place and tick it. If you do this as one single step it will even keep the plugin in the same spot as it was before (not that that is really necessary with LOOT and the proper LOOT rules). I mean, you will have to clean Undeath Classical Lichdom again, per those instructions. But that's not a big deal. Personally, if I were you, I would wait to update until you are done installing everything. With the Skyrim modding community still as active as it is, and the guide as extensive as it is, you're almost guaranteed to have to update a bunch of mods you already installed by the time you are done the guide. Thankfully, Darth, Lexy and co. keep a handy Changelog that you can refer to. Maybe updating as you go is better for you, who knows, lol. But, definitely at least wait until it is updated in the guide in case there end up being special instructions. -

Hey Lexy (and Darth, good to see ya!), As I continue updating, I noticed that the Legacy of the Dragonborn - Patch Central - DSR Patch is labelled as 19.1.6, but should be 19.1.7. Also (you probably already know, but), just a heads-up that Cutting Room Floor updated to v2.07 and Undeath Classical Lichdom updated to v4.75. Both decent size updates, it looks like. Cheers, and thanks again. -

Sure thing, thanks Lexy. I'm still in the midst of updating my months-old install...I haven't even gotten to AAE yet, lol. I'll take a look as soon as I get a chance, though. One other thing I noticed was that there is no version number in the guide for Immersive Citizens. Pretty sure you updated everything for v0.4 (as it's in the changelog), but I didn't want to edit it myself just in case. -

Also Lexy, is there any reason we use the super old 2013 version of High Level Enemies? The SIC-enhanced version I think is what Neo used, and was here but is now on the SIC Nexus page's optional files. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure the SIC-released version covers things the HLE-released version doesn't. -

"The Ordinary Women - USLEEP.esp" is not a master of "SRLE Extended LOTD - NPC Retexture Merged". That plugin is part of SRLE Extended LOTD - NPC Retexture Merged. Edit: You can easily see the masters of a plugin in MO by hovering over the plugin in the right pane. It will show the mod the plugin is from, the author, a description and the plugin's masters. Edit 2 3: Actually, I see what you mean. The .esp is part of the merged plugin, but we don't initially install the mod itself (which only consists of the .esp anyway). -

Hi Alphakay, It may be easier for you to just go through the guide without referring to Darth's modlist until you have read through everything, and then only do it to confirm what you did was correct. Maybe I'm wrong and it is helpful overall to you, but it seems to be causing some confusion. Putting the cart before the horse, if you will. 1) These are merges, which don't appear until basically the end of the guide. I can see how that would be confusing if you hadn't previously done the merge section of the guide. 2) See above. 3) I think you are misreading that - it's not up to you or I to see if SirJesto updated his page. It is an explanatory note about why you need to install that linked version. 4) It really shouldn't matter. You can merge or rename, as long as you put the renamed mod directly after the other in the left pane of MO. Just don't "replace". Left pane priority order is like install order - it determines which files of the same name override each other. Every mod you install is in the left pane. Right pane is the load order of plugins (a specific type of file, ".esp"), which is what LOOT sorts , and what you can edit in xEdit, etc. Only some mods have plugins, some have more than one, etc. If something is getting merged with the Merge Plugins tool (which again, you will do at the end of the guide), I usually make sure every file of a mod is installed in the same folder (i.e. "merging" the folder contents when installing) to avoid confusion. Otherwise I usually only install "Updates" in the same folder; the majority of files I install in different folders (i.e. named differently and therefore a separate entity in MO). 5) See above. 6) If it appears on the list as a mod, you need to install it in the order mentioned; these type of guides are meant to be done from top to bottom, and that includes left pane priority. Regarding merge or rename, see above. 7) See 6) regarding left pane priority. Just install every mod from the top to the bottom. For instance in my MO profile, High Quality LODs is between High Quality 3D Maps and Lightning During Thunderstorms - the same place it is in the guide. Edit: Edited answer to 4 -

1) That file has multiple archives in it. Download it manually and unzip it. Now you basically have five (or whatever the number is) separate mods. Now to get them in the MO download folder, find your MO install and nested one folder deep is "downloads". Put the archives in there (still zipped), and they will show up in the downloads tab of MO. Then you can install the RDO Patches one. Alternatively, just click the button in the far top left and install the RDO Patches mod. It won't be in your download folder, but it will still be installed. 2) The red X in flags means there is no information that MO reads as game data. Basically, it is installed wrong. I just tried installing it again: Double-click the mod in downloads. In the mod-name box, make sure it is named what you want and click Manual. Then open up the nested folders until you get to Alternates/Default BBP/Mipmaps, and right-click "Mipmaps" and set that as the data directory. Basically, MO needs to mimic the Skyrim install. If you open up your Skyrim Data folder, you can see the different folders stuff is organized into. Notice that "textures" is one of them, and the same folder "textures" is under "Mipmaps" in the mod. Therefore when you select that as the data folder, MO knows where the stuff in the mod needs to get installed. 3) I would suggest sticking strictly to the guide first. Then when that is done, stable and you are happy, you can "Copy" the profile in MO to a new profile, and mess around with adding stuff. That way you always have your stable base to go back to that never gets touched. Just remember that if you need to change an existing mod in your copied profile, just untick the old one, don't delete it, and just install another copy with a different name so that you don't screw up your base profile. As long as the files are named differently, you can install 500 different versions of the same mod. I just add whatever note in parentheses in the mod name. :-) Edit: Wording. -

It is a phased roll-out. See here: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2017/10/23/windows-10-fall-creators-update-phased-rollout-approach/ To check if you are eligible for the update, just manually run Windows Update on your PC. The Windows version number with the Fall Creator's Update is 1709. Sounds good, will do!
