Yep, I did make those two folders- Original and Optimized. Before I do this, just want to confirm- this won't require a game restart will it?

Best way to diagnose cause of game crash?
peppergomez posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Been playing for a few days after completing a STEP install, and it seems that the game was running stable for about 2 days but has begun crashing with a bit more frequency. I think it's crashed 4 or 5 times since I began playing, mainly yesterday and today. It seems to happen most often when I am moving from an interior to outside, soon after the loading screen finishes and the game world loads. Any suggestions as to how I can begin troubleshooting this would be good. Thanks. -

OK,. thanks for the feedback. Might there be problems if I install it and use it with an existing save? Not planning on beginning a new game. -
(Deep breath) I followed the DDSopt instructions to the letter (and posted many clarifying questions in the main DDSopt thread so that I didn't screw anything up). My optimized vanilla files are BSA form. Would you suggest that I replace only the optimized Dawnguard.bsa in the Skyrim>Data folder with the original vanilla Dawngaurd.bsa? Replacing all of them seems like it would be undoing the entire DDSopt process, would it not? The optimized Dawnguard.bsa is 679,152 KB and the original vanilla one is 1,159,708 KB. Big difference! What size if your optimized Dawnguard.bsa? Also, would doing this require a new game restart? I am at level 15 and don't really look forward to beginning again, though I guess I will if I might have a broken Dawngaurd install.

Experiencing slowdowns in caves and dungeons
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Set iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=1024 and iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=2048 and turned off Anti Aliasing, and set Shadows to Medium in the launcher. Still no real improvement in caves and dungeons though. It seems to be the rocks that are causing it, if I had to guess. -

Ahh, thanks for the info. yes, will uncheck Read only. -
That sounds like a lot of work, haha. Would this process of putting the original Skyrim BSA files be like that I just did for replacing the DDS book files with the original PNG files (the missing step 4 of the DDSoptimzation process that is discussed on the previous thhread page here)? If "Lookup Failed!" is just a missing graphic, and will have no effect on the main Dawnguard quest, it's not a huge deal to be without the main quest description. Sure, I'd prefer it to be there, but if troubleshooting/fixing it will be difficult...

Which of the STEP mods makes the dragons talk?
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
OK, just posted on the Nexus comment page for that mod. Though if you have an idea how I can disable this dialogue, that would be great. -

I don't recall seeing Shadows as a file or resolution option in Skyrim HD. I will have another look at the RAR file for dungeons, assuming that is what you are referring to. One thing that I mentioned in my post that might be relevant is how Anti Aliasing seems stuck at 4 and Antiostropic Filtering at 16, and Shadows on Ultra in the Skyrim Launcher. I want to disable the AA and the AF, and move Shadow Quality to Medium. Any idea what I need to do to make my adjustments stick? That might go a long way toward fising the problem, without my having to mess around with Skyrim HD or any other mod. Thanks. -
Which of the STEP mods makes the dragons talk?
peppergomez posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Fought the first dragon outside Whiterun and during the battle it would occasionally speak in a very low voice. Ugh, kind of immersion breaking IMO. Vanilla Skyrim didn't have this AFAIR so I am assuming it's a feature in one of the STEP mods. I'd definitely like to disable it. When I was installing the STEP mods I don't recall reading anything about this in any of the mods. -
Piggybacking onto this thread to avoid starting a redundant thread: I just got a "Lookup Failed!" in the main desciption area of the Dawnguard quest in my Journal. What should I do to correct this? Thanks.

Experiencing slowdowns in caves and dungeons
peppergomez posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Skyrim is running quite well (smooth, fast enough) after my STEP and ENB install. Except in caves and dungeons, where the framerate becomes quite choppy. I did disable all Anti Aliasing and AnistropicFiltering (both within Skyrim Launcher, my NVIDIA cards, and in the enbseries.ini). I also made a handfull of other ENB adjustments in order to gain a few frames. Since the rest of the game is running quite well, I am hoping I can address this without making wholesale changes across the whole game. I am thinking the culprit might have been my choosing full 4K textures for dungeons from Skyrim HD. That does seem to be the main STEP mod that touches dungeons and caves. (There is also Redefined Dungeons, but that's 2K and the author states that it shouldn't affect frame rates too much.) I am running 2 680 GTX 4G NVIDIA cards (though I'm gaming on 3 30" in portrait mode for a res of 4800x2560, which is pretty demanding). So, with all that said, what are my options to try to improve performance in caves and dungeons? Would a re-install of Skyrim HD dungeons, say LITE instead of FULL, be feasible and not mess my game up? Any other suggestions? I have already completed the texture optimizattion process using DDSopt. Also, why is Antialiasing always set at 4 Samples in the Skyrim Options launcher, even when I have set it to Off? Ditto Shadow Detail on Ultra after I have set it to Medium. It seems my changes aren't being saved, even when I click OK. When I immediately reopen the Skyrim Options launcher, they are back to 4 and Ultra. Thanks! -

Hey folks, I just finished with my STEP install a few days ago and have been playing with little to no issues. Considering this mod but want to be very careful about what I install post-STEP. Stability is my focus. That said, this mod looks great. Any further experiences or consideration other STEP users who have tried this have? -
Any STEP users using Open Cities Skyrim?

OK, there is. Sorry for not searching first. I will post there and hopefully I will be able to delete this thread. Edit- Didn't have permission to delete my initial post in this thread -
Any STEP users using Open Cities Skyrim?
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
OK, cool. William- have you seen any kind of framerate hit from using it? I ask becuase I need to gain a few more frames and don't want to install any mods that are going to cause any kind of hit. -
I notice that Elven Weapons for Silence in Wrye Bash if red, indicating some or all of the files in the package are not installed as configured. In the Conflicts tab and there are a number of files, with =Lower====== being the heading at the top, and ==44=== HRDLC Optimzed.rar being the heading closer toward the bottom. In the Missing tab ther is one file: textures\weapons\battleaxe\~pse8E74.tmp There are also a number of Skipped (Dir) files (NIF and DDS). There are multiple subfolders in the original RAR file for the mod- Data, fomod, Options. Does Wrye Bash know to skip the fomod and Options folders, and only draw from the Data folder? And is the red color indicating that Wrye Bash is aware of these folders and the fact that it's not installing files from them? I ask because the only other red Installers in Wrye Bash are HRDLC Optimzed.rar and STD.rar and I am assuming they are red because some of the files in their subfolders are intentionally being skipped.

It looks like a very cool mod, but before I think about installing it, I'm curious if it works well, works well with a STEP install, and what folks think of it. I don't want to add much more beyond my STEP install, but I'm curious about this one. Thanks. https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8058 "Open Cities Skyrim is a comprehensive project that aims to bring back at least part of the feel of Morrowind - specifically how most of the cities were a natural part of the world and you could just walk in without loading screens. The added immersion and realism goes a long way, probably a lot more than you might think. Ever wanted to ride your horse into the center of Riften? Well now you can. Need to get some help from the city guards to vanquish a foe? Run toward the gates and the guards will do their duty while you can seek safety within the walls. The town guards make for some very interesting interactions this way. This will also make running dragon battles that much more interesting since the flow of the battle won't be interrupted by the loading screen and all of the city guards can be involved at the same time."

OK, thanks a lot.

I read the ENB Evolved USerManual in the hopes of learning where screenshot are saved, but didnt' find that info. Can anyone tell me? Thanks.

All books have a missing graphic on page 1
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Confirmed. That thread provided me the info I needed. Thanks again. -
Thanks a lot. I used Skyrim Revisited to guide me through the BOSS Userlist Manager steps necessary. In a few cases the steps differed since a couple of the mods needed to go after different mods than described in the Skyrim Revisited page.

OK, so to spell it out such that there's no error on my part-- Those 11 DDS files (black - white_em)----now that I have just run DDSopt and assumedly DID optimize them again, how do I proceed? Do I need to run DDSopt another time, and somehow exclude these 11 DDS files from the optimization process? Because I assume that I've just optimized them on this run through I just did.

Thanks again!

I see the ones you are referring to- black through white_em But here's the thing- at the root Textures folder level, when I type .png into the center of the Browser tab in DDSopt, the only png files that are selected are those in interface\books...not the 11 at the root Textures level. In fact, those 11 files don't even appear in the file tree in the Browser tab in DDSopt. Not sure how to proceed. They indeed were turned into DDS files, even when I follwed the new step 4 above to apply the PNG wildcard filter. Maybe those 11 tiles aren't PNG files--in which case, what kind of file are they, so I know what to type in the center browser? And am I correct in thinking I'm going to also need to do these to Textures>Interface>Books folders for both Dragonborn and Dawngaurd DLCs? Thanks again.
