Thanks for the info. WIll do. Are there other such PNG files that I also shouldn't have done this with, whcih I might want to similarly repair? I haven't noticed any other missing textures so far, but just in case... Also, should I use the original vanilla unoptimized Skyrim Textures.BSA file as the source of extraction using DDSopt? PS- I might be remember incorrectly, but a week or two ago I don't think Step 4 in Optimize the Textures was present: "IMPORTANT Texture filters - textures\interface\books\ of the STD vanilla textures as well as some of the 3 DLC BSAs (but not the 3 HRDLC) contain many PNG files that do not need to be processed. There is an additional substep to take care of this. Use the filter in the center of the Browser Tab to type in a "*.png" wildcard, then click the [Apply] button, unselect the files if there are any, remove the "*.png" wildcard filter, and click [Apply] again. This will ensure that the PNG files will not be processed into DDS file type. " That would explain why me and the OP encountered this issue. I notice the following: " as well as some of the 3 DLC BSAs (but not the 3 HRDLC) contain many PNG files that do not need to be processed. " So, given that I turned the 3 DLC BSA PNG files into DDS files, will I also need to follow these steps for both Dawnguard and Dragonborn Textures\Interfaces\Books? I am guessing yes.

Thanks. I think I figured it out- I had a mod unchecked in Wrye Bash by mistake. Re: the numerical key value and not the key "name" I googled and found this: https://help.adobe.com/en_US/AS2LCR/Flash_10.0/help.html?content=00000520.html Is this correct? Thanks.

Hey all, I have this same problem. Missing graphic for the first letter and the "img:" placeholder. In the Textures>Interface>Books folder I only have .DDS files. I've been looking in my original vanilla BSAs folder and in my original Skyrim install backup archive, but haven't seen any PNG files in any Textures>Interface>Books folder. I re-read the DDSopt instructions at the links provided and am still unsure how to proceed. Where might I find these original .PNG files that I need to paste into the Books folder? Or would it be as simple as changing the file type of all files int eh Books folder from .DDS to .PNG, assuming that is even possible? Thanks.

Best way to adjust the default field of view (FOV)?
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I adjusted it in the Skyrim.ini as dem1an suggested, though I used 75 isntead of 90. Thanks, all. This thread is now solved. -
Best way to adjust the default field of view (FOV)?
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I didn't see any FOV options in either Skyrim INI file. Would this be a line I would add to either Skyrim and/or SkyrimPrefs? If it's at 65 default I will likely change it to 70 or 75. -
To use ENB or not to use ENB?
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
OK, thanks. Just installed the ENB .dll and then SkyRealism ENB Evolved Cinematic. Made a few adjustments (got rid of depth of field, which I hate). Haven't gotten to Riverwood yet but so far the frame rates seem acceptably high and the game looks great. More vibrant and less bleached of color. Might be a wee bit dark, but we'll see. -
High-Quality LODs- install meshes, normals, and textures?
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
OK, thanks. Just uninstalled the Normals and Textures. Is there a way I can mark this thread as solved? -
Flickering in distant mountains and on one NPC face

Thanks a lot for that -
Thanks. Sadly the Traps Make Noise doesn't change to a plus sign when I click it. Just toggles the check on or off. Edit- OK, think I figured it out. I unchecked/rechecked it AFTER rebuilding the patch, and the + appeared beside Traps Make Noise. so for the other mods, is there a way I can force them to stay in a particular order? What I've been doing is simply moving the bashed patch to the end of the mod list. But those other non-merged mods are still at the end of the list before the bashed patch, putting them out of the correct order.

From the ENB documentation: "Do not set texture lod bias to negative values, it must be 0 only or not affected at all. " Does mean in NVIDIA Control Panel I want Clamp for Texture Filtering - Negative LOD bias setting? Edit- Nevermind re: my 2nd question (which I deleted). Figured it out. The SkyRealism ESB presets replace those like files from Boris's ENB. Also, although it doesn't appear so from reviewing the enbseries config file, does SkyRealism ENB use the right numpad keys for anything? I ask because I can no longer use some of these keys for movement, even though I have them assigned for such in the game. Now for example when I try to assign Numpad 5 for Favorites, I get a message "that key is reserved". I am a southpaw so I need these keys. I did change the INPUT settings from default to as follows: [iNPUT] KeyReadConfig=q KeyCombination=a KeyUseEffect=123 KeyFPSLimit=z KeyShowFPS=w KeyScreenshot=s Also now that I realize it, using the key name instead of whatever numerical system is being used might create problems- will it? Anyway, just wondering if anyone knows, since I want to regain use of righthand numpad keys. I checked the various mods in Mod Configurator and don't see any that appear to be using them. Thanks. Thanks

Flickering in distant mountains and on one NPC face
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hmm, I noticed that all my Skyrim and SkyrimPreferences INI file changes as per STEP were undone, with both files at the default. That might have something to do with it. Reediting them as per STEP instructions. Is there a way I can make it so that each of these files cannot be overwritten by Skyrim? -

OK. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe a small tweak then. If the default is 70, then 75? -
High-Quality LODs- install meshes, normals, and textures?
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
OK, thanks. Since I installed the Normals and the Textures, is it as simple as just deleting them from the Installers tab in Wrye Bash? Or would I need to delete both them and the Meshes, and then reinstall just the Meshes? -
That didn't seem to work. All those mods are still listed after the Bashed Patch in the Mods load order. I noticed that I got Python Mergability messages that some aren't mergable: ORM-Avak.esp: - Unsupported types: NPC__, OFTF, TXST. New records in blocks: ARMA, ARMO Manny Lantern Caretakers.esp: Has BSA archive. Unsupported types: CELL, NAVI, NPC___, OTFT, PACK, QUST, SCEN, SPEL, WRLD MORE SALT PLEASE: --Dragonborn addon esp.: Unsupported types: CONT MVABasic.esp: Unsupported types: NPC___, WRLD (same for MVARorikstead) MVALVERSTEAD.esp: Unsupported types:WRLD NonEssentialChildren: Unsupported Types: FURN, KYWD, QUST, RACE Traps Make Noise was marked as mergable, so I have no idea why it's still appearing after the Bashed Patch. The order of the mods in Wrye Bash Mods column is signicfant I assume, with Bashed Patch needed to come last? Any assistance with the above issues would be much appreciated. Thanks.

All books have a missing graphic on page 1
peppergomez posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Just completed the default STEP install, and notice that anytime I open a book, the small graphic at the top left of page one is missing, with a rainbow colored placeholder (and the word "graphic) in its place. I'm guessing I messed up a mod install along the way. I'm thinking possibly Better Book Names. What's the best way I can diagnose this problem? Thanks. -
Best way to adjust the default field of view (FOV)?
peppergomez posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Just curious what the best way to permanently tweak the in-game FOV is. I play 1st person only and find that I'd like to increase it a bit more, maybe to 80. Also, would doing this place the weapons a bit further away from my "body" in terms of camera perspective? I find it a bit jarring not to be able to see the tops of the short swords- it feels like I'm holding them too close. If tweaking the in-game FOV won't do this, is there a best practices method for achieving this? Thanks. -
To use ENB or not to use ENB?
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Would using an ENB vairiant allow me to make the dungeons darker? I was surprised to notice no mod for this in the default STEP install. Currently the dungeons are way too bright, making torches and lanterns unneccessary. -
Thanks for the tip

Flickering in distant mountains and on one NPC face
peppergomez replied to peppergomez's question in General Skyrim LE Support
As in, you want me to take FRAPS and upload to Youtube or something? Ugh. Was hoping that flickering is a reasonably common issue and such has some workarounds. Will research it and see what I find. -
BOSS doesn't know where to place the following plugins: ORM-Arvak.esp Active manny Lantern Caretakers.esp Active More Salt Please - Dragonborn addon.esp Active MVABasic.esp Active MVAIvarstead.esp Active MVARorikstead.esp Active NonEssentialChildren.esp Active Traps Make Noise.esp Active Going to read about mod placement in Wrye Bash, but if anyone has any quick suggestions on how to handle the placement of these, making sure they will stay in the order I place them in, that would be great. Thanks. Also, when I rebuild my bashed patch, I got the following: Deactivate these mods prior to patching: Mergable Traps Make Noise MoveitLWT Should I click OK or Skip?
-
OK, so are you saying that in the case of Skyrim Redesigned that I won't need a wizard, and the the downloadable BCF I will use will know which folders to grab and which to skip? Because when I looked in the Skipped tab in the upper right window in Wrye Bash I didn't see any skipped folders. Under General,. I see the Also, there is a wxPython: stdout/stderr dialog pop-up: "Trackbakc (most recent call last): File "bash/basher.py" line 11329 in Execuite if not self converter.hasBCF: AttributeError: "InstallerConverter" object has no attribute 'hasBCF'"
-
OK, I think I have figured it out based on the STEP guide to Wrye Bash, which is written more clearly. The only step I wasn't able to complete was 7 below- the Wizard option was greyed out, and nor was there the wizard icon on the the selection box to the left of the Installer. Without a Wizard option, I am unable to choose the folders I want from among the 33 folders (Alchemy Table v1, Anvil v1, etc. etc.). That means the only option I can think of is to manually remove the unwanted folders from within the main archive file, then follow the below steps to apply the BCF, since only the folders I want will be there. Will this work? But how though am I supposed to create a Wizard? "Applying a BCF 1.Drop the mod into Bash Installers\ and the BCF.7z into Bash Installers\Bain Converters\ 2. Start WB and go to the Installers Tab (BAIN) 3. Right-click on the mod (most likely at bottom of list) 4. Select "Conversions" > "Apply" > BCF.7z 5. Give the output BAIN package a name (accept the default) 6. Right-click the new package (most likely at bottom of list) 7. Select "Wizard", and follow the instructions" EDIT- Ugh, this is annoying. Doing as I thought above, removing the unwanted folders in the source file RAR, didn't work. Now the Apply option remains greyed out in Conversions when I right-click on Skyrim Redesigned. So it looks like I'm going to have to use the unmodified RAR file for that file. So my earlier question applies- how can I create a Wizard so I can choose the folders I want to install from among the 33 folders in the source file folder?
-
Can you define what you mean by "source file"? PS- I have a BCF.dat file in my Bain Convertors folder from several days back, when I created (or tried to) create the Skill Interface BCF. One aspect of working with BCF files in Wrye Bash that puzzles me is the fact that the BCF files for each mod are all named "BCF" causing me to have to rename them with a "(1)" "(2)" etc in order not to write over them when creating a new one. Am I doing something wrong here? (I've read the instructions for working with BCF files on the Wrye Bash readme page several times and it's no clearer to me, or rather, it seems to me that I AM following the steps properly, hence my confusion over this)
