Find the bottleneck

I've seen autoupdate capability in the latter 200 series drivers, but I don't know if it works. I never install that feature. -

I can't say for sure in regards to nVidia having better driver support, as both companies seem to have had their ups and downs, at least as far as Windows is concerned. Though, nVidia definitely has better driver support in Linux when it comes to multimedia. -

Thanks for shadow quality settings, I'll try those out and see what the differences are at all levels. -

It needs to come sooner so I can get a 2nd 580/3GB card for a decent price. -
ENB 0.110 Released

I did some quick testing with the different shadow quality settings just to make sure the overlay wasn't the problem in the comparisons I did. They still look pretty much the same, and low still causes a lot of pixelation. One problem I just came across is on water as can be seen below. It's causing the water to become transparent so I can see the riverbed and any vegetation. What's interesting is that it mainly shows up where there is mist/spray from the water. When the mist dissipates, you can see the water normally. Get a large spray, and roughly 75% of that portion of the river is landscape texture. It's also occurring on the edges of the river regardless of mist/spray. -

Sweet, I'll check it out as Vond found the issue with loss of AA in the latest ENB series. -

Yet another good catch. Just disabled my overlay and am getting all of my settings applied. Texture shimmer is gone! -

I'm using a single GTX580. I'm also running the .24 beta drivers. My question though is whether or not he remembered to disable FXAA. If he didn't, of course it will look the same. -
I haven't kept up with MO development, and didn't know of those additional ways to load it. Thanks for clarifying.

@Monty, Out of curiosity, what were the specs on the hard drive you were using? RPM? Access Time? Cache? -

Discussion thread: Project Parallax-Whiterun by Osmodius Wiki Link Do you know if it will still work if you are disabling all lighting effects? I'm only using ENB for DOF (and hopefully eventually shadows). -
CPU affinity - two different approaches
stoppingby4now replied to Vond's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I haven't done any of these tweaks, but decided to take a closer look at what these threads are actually doing. I will take a sample with longer play time, but within about 5 minutes, I saw around 16 threads. I'll need to dig deeper to know if any of them were closed, but it appears that they were as new threads appeared over time and the older ones didn't. All of the threads as sampled were accessing resources, be it EMS's, looking for INI files, reading the registry, accessing the pagefile, etc. I believe that tool reporting 45 threads may be showing all of the threads it has seen during the entire run time and is not accounting for threads that were closed. -

Tried out 111 and same results as Vond...nothing. On a whim, I forced driver FXAA and the shimmering is magnitudes worse. I just don't get how folks think that is good quality. But hey, at least their jaggies are gone! -
Good Performance Hunting
stoppingby4now replied to Bealdwine's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
In regards to the first video, I agree with Monty as well. His advice is random in a couple of spots. I do think he was trying to infer that if you had less than 4GB of memory that you would incur stuttering. I'm not aware of anyone running with less 4GB that can report. But, when you consider that the Windows kernel reserves 2GB of RAM initially to itself and then releases upon demand to applications that need it, you could get into a situation where you have very bad performance with less than 4GB. In today's age, there's no reason to recommend less than 4GB, and with the changes in memory management with Vista+, more is better and not going to break the bank. -
ENB 0.110 Released

The difference between the InjectorVersion and the WrapperVersion is how it is loaded. With the InjectorVersion, an executable (ENBInjector.exe) is started manually to inject the effects into the game. With the WrapperVersion, a DirectX dll is used load the injector (game automatically loads it). The problem with the WrapperVersion when using RCRN, is that it will overwrite the dll that RCRN is using. So you either have to load one of the dll's by proxy, or use the InjectorVersion of ENB. -

ENB 110 Shadow Comparisons
stoppingby4now replied to stoppingby4now's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
Yeah, medium for less defined(more solid)/non moving shadows is actually pretty darn good with ENB when you are just playing and not scrutinizing them. Shadows from people look good as well. The two biggest differences between medium and high is that you still get a sense for the blockiness of the shadows much more with medium than you do with high, and high maintains the structure of the shadow a lot better (but it's mainly only noticeable on moving shadows from trees, foliage and people). If you're playing to enjoy the game rather than examining the shadows at every turn, it will be a great setting with great performance. The one thing where I do see a noticeable visual quality that is hard for me to ignore on lower settings is with grass. But, I believe part of this is that the current version of the drivers are breaking AA which is re-introducing a lot of texture shimmering. Once this issue is resolved (hopefully), I'll take more screenshots in the same areas and compare. -
ENB 0.110 Released

I tried disabling shadows to see if it may be something in that portion of the code. Everything currently disabled using the ini I posted earlier for a vanilla look, and it's still breaking AA. -

Does anyone have the archive for Shadow Striping Fix? It's been hidden on the Nexus and I don't have a backup copy. -
ENB 0.110 Released
stoppingby4now replied to Neovalen's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I think no one else is reporting it because the majority of folks use FXAA or SMAA, which being postprocess will still clean up jaggies. What I'm more surprised in is that no one complains about texture shimmer when using those solutions. -
I would agree that there is a potential conflict somewhere causing your performance drop. In most cases with a default install, you shouldn't see more than a 10% decrease. And a large portion of that performance can be reclaimed by disabling their FXAA.

ENB 0.110 Released

I just tried that config, same result in regards to getting no AA. But that config breaks something. A lot of cloud cover on mountains are black. -
@Spiffyman What are you system specs? I get very little hit in FPS with default RCRN install, but then I disable their FXAA effects and end up with no performance hit either.

ENB 0.110 Released
stoppingby4now replied to Neovalen's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
So here are two screenshots with close to the same view that Vond was using. The first is with no ENB and AA disabled in game (nVidia profile reset to defaults). The second is with ENB, AA settings in game set to 4x, nVidia profile set to enhance the application value, 4x4SSAA, 4xSGSSAA. - I'm using a custom ENB ini for vanilla look and disabled everything except shadows. The screens look identical. Texture shimmer occurs in both, though I believe it's worse with ENB enabled. -
