  1. Nothing prevents you from installing the 2k textures if you want to, it's just that, as I understand it, S.T.E.P. Core is made to be compatible with the "minimum requirements" it has set in the guide. If you are way above the "recommended system", you can obviously go 2k or 4k (though I'm not sure 4k provides any advantages on a standard LCD monitor), I know I have 2k textures everywhere.I know the instructions aren't always clear on some places for non modders (took some time to figure out some things), but if look at the first part of the guide, there's a "MOD table legend" (It's easily missed), it explains the icons LQ and HQ. Basically, there's the baseline wich is good for the "recommended system requirements", but if your computer is better than that, you can use that HQ version of the mod (meaning the 2k textures, usually). Only thing to remember, imho, is to install STEP (Core or extended) + all the patches and then, when it's working properly, add any other mod that doesn't conflict, with its own proper load order (usually, at the end of STEP, but sometimes, at the very beginning).
  2. Some of the mods have meta instructions to help LOOT sort them properly. Maybe you missed one somewhere? If a mod is giving you problem, not being ordered the way it should, you could edit its rules in LOOT so that it will be loaded after another mod. That way, if you install more mods and use LOOT again, you won't have to worry about it messing with your load order.
  3. VideoMemorySizeMb=5120 this exceeds your available video memory. I don't know if it would have any effect to reduce it to just slightly below your 4gb vram? 4036, maybe? Or leave it blank and set "AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true". I was playing with 12gb available ram and had no problems so long as I did not try to run any other software. It's still 4gb more than your 8gb, but maybe worth a try until you grab more ram :)
  4. I really like this mod. So long as you don't try any other home modifications, it works great. I wish it would work with those mods that add houses, like Dragonfalls manor. Or I wish I knew how to remod it for myself and make it work. Oh well, I can't have it all :)
  5. Cool. Eventually, maybe we'll arrive at some kind of generalized guidelines for everyone :)
  6. Ok, so first, I disabled my RAMdrive. I have some computer problems (it enters sleep, does not seem to wake up, possibly due to an electrical problem). Then I tried launching Skyrim from MO as usual (not using Skyrim Performance Monitor), I had no success. Tried without using SKSE, no success. Now, I found a workaround. Clicking the profiler menu and hitting enter, I noticed some flicker, and some quickly fading numbers. So, now, I keep enter pressed and I can see the numbers flickering and being visible just long enough to kinda guess what is behind. And now after alt-tabbing a few times, it seems I can see clearly... The trick seems to keep pressing ENTER, alt+tab when I can see something, go back, the menu is expanded. So here is what I've got, in order of appearance, top to bottom: Hope that helps. As for Keithinhanoi comment on CTDs when I runout of memory, this seems to happen when I leave other memory intensive software running in the background. Shutting everything off, as I usually do results in no crashes at all during gameplay.
  7. I would say follow the guide at first. Install all STEP mods&patches as it is supposed to be, as per the warning in the instructions: Make sure it works flawlessly. Then go to this section: ENB quickstart Follow the instructions for ENB, download and install your ENB preset according to its own instructions.
  8. Ah, yes, I am. I don't think I thought of trying without Skyrim Performance monitor.
  9. Sorry, I never think of using this tag.
  10. thanks for the vid. I reverted back to 0.262, tried again, with Win7 compatibility, but it's not working for me. I was doing things correctly, but clicking on a menu produces no results. I can move the windows around, I can disable some, but clicking on highlighted 'profiler' simply flicks the screen, but the menu never opens. I'll try some ENB preset mod to see if it changes my interactions with the ENB console. Btw, My ful Enblocal.ini:
  11. didn't work, and I wasn't the only one. From ENbdev news:
  12. @afonikcompatibility mode didn't work either for .264, disable display scaling on high DPI settings didn't work with either .262 or .264 (i mean, it has no effect). @Nozzer66: I tried both cursors. First the hourglass, then the other. I tried changing: ForceBorderless=trueForceBorderlessFullscreen=true to false for both, to no avail, it only made things worst. Anyhow, I have upgraded to ENB 0.264, and whenever I try to have UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false instead of true, my game simply refuses to start. I get a message from AMD Catalyst saying "Access to video hardware has been disabled for this application" and my loading screen is frozen, the mouse cursor is frozen in the center, pressing ENTER does not work to load a game, and I can't even see the usual menu to load, start a new game or quit. Could be because I wasn't using any ENB mod (only ENBboost) and it now won't work without it, if I set the line to false. I'll try tomorrow night to find & install one, see if it works that way, if I can get ENB to report how much memory it is using. I just hope I won't taint my results.
  13. I see the console, I just can't do anything with it. No matter where I click, I get nothing, no menu is expanded, so I can't see what's under "memory" or anything else. I'll try win7 compatible mode tonight. It has never fixed anything for me in the past, but will try anyway. :)
  14. Amazing work. Not that I understand all the technical stuff I've read on the last 4 pages , but I realize it's a lot of work and makes my game better&faster. Thanks to tony and all who contributed.
  15. I'm sorry, I tried, but I can't get the console to work. I press the tilde key to have the console open, then SHIFT+ENTER to see the console, but my cursor is then doubled, a regular Skyrim cursor and an hourglass. Nothing works, i tried highliting the memory section, pressing ENTER or +, didn't work. Trying to click it with any of the cursor only makes my sword wing. I tried launching Skyrim without SKSE but I have the same result. I tried changing: ForceBorderless=trueForceBorderlessFullscreen=trueto false, didn't work either. In fact, my game refused to load with SKSE disabled and these to false. I searched on ENB forum, and apparently it's a bug with Windows 8.1 and Boris has no desire to fix this. (sorry, I forgot to mention my OS the first time) https://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2379 I tried their work-around, but I still have the same problem. If you think of something, let me know. If you need anything else, let me know. I'm sorry I couldn't help further for now. I am using M.O. I ditched NMM when I started using STEP, mid game. The Ramdisk utility provided by ASUS makes the shortcut from my HDD to the ramdisk. I have no idea how to do this myself. When I move stuff from my HDD to my SSD, I use Steammover, wich again, makes the necessary shortcuts. Honestly, moving my saved games and having SKyrim look for them in the right directory... I have no idea how to do that. :) Doesn't really matter, for now it works. If I have problems, I'll delete the junction and revert back to loading on the HDD.
  16. I know it differs from one system to another, wich is why I posed my config, so people can compare what works for them or not. enblocal.ini settings For Enblocal.ini, I tried two diferents settings. #1 was this: [MEMORY] ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=false DisableDriverMemoryManager=false DisablePreloadToVRAM=false EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false ReservedMemorySizeMb=512 VideoMemorySizeMb= EnableCompression=false AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true And #2: [MEMORY] ExpandSystemMemoryX64=false ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true DisableDriverMemoryManager=false DisablePreloadToVRAM=false EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false ReservedMemorySizeMb=64 VideoMemorySizeMb= EnableCompression=true AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true Wich, unless I'm mistaken, should be the default ini file from Boris' site, included in the v.262 download + the STEP wiki recommendations https://wiki.step-project.com/ENBoost#Recommendations All other things being equal (meaning no other tweaking of SKSE.ini, skyrim.ini or skyrimprefs.ini and changing the load order) I tried playing with different settings, one at a time, but the ones I posted are the only ones that behaved correctly, without crashes. This across two different video cards (7950 as of two weeks ago). I should also add that I have the lastest non beta drivers from AMD (14.4). Allocated video memory size SHIFT+ENTER doesn't do anything for me. My global settings are: [GLOBAL] UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=true UseDefferedRendering=false IgnoreCreationKit=true ForceFakeVideocard=false doesn't the first line interfere with ENB's console? I thought I read this somewhere... Anyway, I have my Skyrim performance logs, in case it is of any use. VRAM is reported as: min: 237mb avg: 2284 max: 3245 RAMdisk With my motherboard, I have an utility called ROGRamdisk wich creates a RAmdisk and a junction point. By default, all my games are installed on D: drive, wich is the Caviar Black. All my date (My documents) are also on the D: Drive. I have no idea how to change it from the HDD to the SDD for specific saved games, only the global folder, wich then takes too much place on the SSD. I use Steam Mover to move games back and forth between the HDD and the SSD, but it only works with stuff in Steamappscommon folder For other games, like Rome 2 Total War, it made a huge difference. I figured it would also help with Skyrim, but I have found over the week that it isn't that much faster. Faster yes, certainly. Maybe twice or even thrice as fast, but it's already pretty fast. Really, going from 9 seconds to 4 seconds loading time isn't a huge drawback for me. Why do I keep it? Bah. I play one game at a time, and it takes me a while to play. I never noticed any drawbacks in the games I've used it, only faster loading time for some games, not all of them. So, why not? :) The sacrifice isn't huge, most games don't use that much memory. I'm running Skyrim with decent graphics and no slowdown problems, so I guess I could afford that sacrifice. Hope that helps for now. If you find another way for me to access the ENB console and see the used video memory in game, I'm always willing to help :) EDIT: some typo and added clarification.
  17. Just to add my own comments here. As I most likely made mistakes during install and didn't start from a fresh install, I flushed everything and started fresh. Following STEP Extended guidelines closely, I was still plagued by CTDs while using 2k textures (I used 1k textures prior to that and was still crashing). I tried following advices here&there, but the game was crashing with 5 minutes of gameplay, if I was lucky. What I did was reverting back to Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini original versions and I made only the changes suggested by the STEP guide for these two files + SKSE.ini + ENBlocal.ini But I was still crashing. I then made some changes to ENBlocal.ini and the crash are a thing of the past. Not once in many hours of playtime. This is what my ENBLocal.in memory section looks like now: [MEMORY]ExpandSystemMemoryX64=trueReduceSystemMemoryUsage=trueDisableDriverMemoryManager=falseDisablePreloadToVRAM=falseEnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=falseReservedMemorySizeMb=768VideoMemorySizeMb=EnableCompression=trueAutodetectVideoMemorySize=true It gives me very good performance (60fps) and extreme stability. If anyone is still having CTDs, I'd encourage them doing what I did, reverting to baseline INIs + these tweaks to ENBlocal and see from there how it goes. My config is in my sig. I have Skyrim STEP:Extended (2k or highest resolution possible below that) + a few other mods installed. No performance problem, no CTDs. Any other setting in ENBlocal gave me CTDs.
  18. I had the problem a few times, it seems to have disapeared when I reinstalled the S.T.E.P. mods. Maybe a problem with your load order or overwrite order in Mod Organizer? Double check your install order with the STEP guide, triple check your load order with LOOT? I wished someone more knowledgeable could help you...
  19. Could it be a problem with Fuz Ro D-oh? Some kind of conflict with another mod, or the fact that my saved game did not include this mod before?
  20. If they changed, shouldn't the file names end with 2-0, say Dawnguard Textures for MO users-5733-2-0.7z instead of keeping -1-0 so that MO recognizes them as new mod?
  21. I double check to be sure, but I have the latest (and only) Windows 8 driver for Microsoft Natural Wireless Ergonomic keyboard and mouse.
  22. Redone the bash patch + all the steps that follow. Still the same (minor) issues. For the moving lips bug, I wonder if it's an issue with Face-to-face and Amazing tweak. One of my mod is misplaced, maybe?
  23. When I create the bash patch, should I include all of my mods or only those who are part of my STEP Extended setup?
  24. So I finished installing STEP extended + a few other mods. I used 2k textures in most places, it looks great. I haven't played much, just stayed in my home in Solstheim for now. I have however, a few small problems, nothing critical, just annoying. When I talk to a follower, say to access his backpack, he speaks as he should, but the mouth won't stop moving after that. No sound, just lips movement.Anybody would know, of the top of its head what I did wrong? I did not have this problem before, so it's something I did wrong. I followed all of STEP instructions to the letter this time. Also, a couple of weapons appear misplaced: Serana has a dagger, but sometimes, you'll see the sheated dagger going through her arm. My character has a double handed sword on its back, but it conflicts with my imperial cape, it goes halfway through the cape. I have listed all my mods below, but I think it could be related to immersive weapons and immersive armor mods. With Dual Sheat weapons, I made sure to install all the appropriate patches. When I installed my mods, I proceeded that way: - Follow STEP guide to the letter - Ran Loot - Installed the STEP Patch - Ran Loot - Created the bashed patch - Installed&run the other 3 patches - Installed my supplemental mods - Subscribed to my Steam mods (Improved quest books, Detailed mine map markers, Changes syntaxes) - Ran Loot - Launched SKSE through MO, loaded my saved games wich contained my previous STEP install + all these mods.
  25. With Mod Organizer, all mods are installed in their seperate categories. "Installed order" is your left pane, that means anything conflicting with Skifall&Skymills installed after would overwrite that mod. Just stick with STEP installed order by dragging your folder to the right place, run LOOT, follow the instructions for the patches and re-run LOOT, and you'll be ok.
