Help - Exterior World Space Freezes and CTDs
torminater replied to MadWizard25's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Well my game is somehwat instable too especially when loading a other savegame whilst playing or pressing "F9". I have NO CLUE why there was a CtD caused by that. But I didn't have the time to play 1,5h of skyrim on one run so maybe I'll have to give you guys an update on my situation! -
STEP v2.1.1b Bug Reports [Official]
torminater replied to jcooper138's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
Ok, I narrowed down the increased z-fighting issue: it's caused by RLwC or RCRN. RLwC is far worse, but RCRN makes it look a tiny little worse... Vanilla Lighting is the best option. Somehow the clouds seem to be thicker there. I'm only working with 2 saves and I have some routine testing z-fighting, you can definitely believe me! -

Are you experiencing any save game bloat? compare the size of your new savegames to them before... Dynavision is said to cause that, and maybe some other mods or combinations of them, too! -

Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering

IMPORTANT NOTE: I had a typo in my fix here before Gophers Video on Z-fighting. The value fBlockLevel1Distance was set to 1400000.0000. This actually should be 140000.0000 so divided by 10. Apparently it works both ways, but if you consider it being too big of a FPS-hit with the 1,400,000.0000 try out using fBlockLevel1Distance=140000.0000 instead. Sorry for that. -
STEP v2.1.1b Bug Reports [Official]

@ Neovalen: I can confirm almost anything guide related you wrote! I installed STEP2.1.1b yesterday too and created a fake Skyrim directory. then I split up the 8,3GB into 9 .7Z-Packs plus some extra packs (lighting, shadows, hardcorepack) and can now apply and reapply them as needed. what I cannot confirm yet, are your suspicions about bugs with the mods. so far i didn't come across any. This might change when I get more time for testing, though! -
Hey fellows.so i did what everybody told me not to do: I generated the Skyrim INI Master file via console ingame typing saveini i fixed my game by deleting several inis and validating with steam, so don't do it yourself, as there are a whole lot more bugs present than only a red icon on the starting screen... well nevertheless i thought everybody would want to have a look at the INI, which is afaik not completely used by skyrim or the creation engine. So, I separated the INI file into it's "headlines" so you can have a look at how the different settings are for which ini. they are not chronological, because that's too much stress for me know, but maybe later i'll order them. The reason why I'm putting this here is for those of you who are very adventurous and even more ignorant of risks, who want to try out some extra tweaks. BUT: IT'S DANGEROUS. The ini file here is maybe not compatible with the creation engine, as the ini file generated seems to look a lot like the one from Fallout 3. So it is definitely possible and likely that settings vary. Also many settings which can be found in every normal skyrim.ini or skyrimprefs.ini are not in here. so do NEVER use anything of this ini without saving your ini and don't you ever test the tweaks on a save you want to continue playing! Here's the ini =FootIK =RagdollAnim =General =HAVOK =MapMenu =LookIK =GrabIK =RagdollFeedback =Display =Imagespace =Water =LightingShader =Interface =MAIN =GethitShader =LOD =Animation MESSAGES Pathfinding BSPathing BackgroundLoad Controls Menu Fonts Papyrus :Controls Audio Camera Combat VATS Decals Dialogue Gameplay Pathing Actor Headtracking Debug Archive CopyProtectionStrings SpeedTree CameraPath SaveGame Clouds TerrainManager Terrain NavMeshGeneration Trees FaceGen Weather Cart Voice TestAllCells Landscape Grass bLightAttenuation ScreenSplatter BudgetCaps GeneralWarnings LANGUAGE

Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
torminater replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
so, what i can definitely say is that ethatron doesn't give a damn about z-fighting, at least not about resolving it. he might be the only one capable of not only decreasing z-fighting but diminishing z-fighting alltogether. he had been already contacted and is told to have said, that he doesn't have any z-fighting, so he doesn't see the necessity to fix it... -
STEP v2.1.1b Bug Reports [Official]
torminater replied to jcooper138's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
What's not very clear to me considering the recent changes of 2.1.0 -> 2.1.1: Is it know recommended to only use Vano89s Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized and not to optimize the HD-DLCs using DDSopt instead? -
Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
torminater replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I'm not too sure, but I think that RCRN makes the z-fighting "look worse". With vanilla lighting z-fighting is in the same areas, but less intense. With RCRN (only Pure Version tested so far) the flicker hid by clouds looks worse. I'll test RLwC because I didn't have any problems with that one so far! Also I think that the EHD, HQLOD and 4096k mountains (which is not needed anyways, I think) can be implemented, as they add to graphics, and they alone don't make z-fighting unbearibly stronger! Edit: the lighting effects of RCRN Pure especially at dawn and dusk make the z-fighting more obvious than vanilla lighting or RLwC for me at least. Also I deactivated the FXAA of RCRN before testing. -

I don't know if anybody else thought of it, but here is a small mistake (I guess) I found in STEP 2.1.1 The mod author of Crimson Tide suggests to apply two ini tweaks: But STEP suggests both of them for SkyrimPrefs.ini...@TC: did you find out that using the prefsini tweak works better? -
Screen resolution and VRAM info
torminater replied to Vond's topic in General Skyrim LE Discussion & Support
I'll try lowering my screen resolution by a little... I already have 1280x1024 so that's going to be quite tricky :/ -
Movement of trees and grass
torminater replied to Nachtfrost's question in General Skyrim LE Support
try enabling stereoscopic anyways. if this solves it for you, good! :) if not, try different Skyrim configs(low, medium, high, ultra). If even on low this problem occurs, it's maybe some sort of driver/hardware problem. If one of those solves it, compare your old ini files with the new ones and try out by using the trial-and-error-method which setting is causing you troubles! -
If it was only them being pink I might consider deleting some textures xD
-
So is it recommended to process them more than once? where do I change those parametres?
-
Is there any reason for processing huge amounts of textures multiple times? How do I do that with DDSopt, can it cause problems, does it mess up files from user-created mods? Do I have to unpack .bsas before processing them? Would love to hear some experts on that matter! :)

STEP v2.1.1b Bug Reports [Official]
torminater replied to jcooper138's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
So my personal problems with STEP 2.1c - Z-fighting as bad as ever (probably due to Enhanced Distant Terrain or HQLOD Meshes or Dramatic Clouds) - Extreme performance drops (from 75 to 2 FPS) every once in a while (VRAM o'course) - Really bad texture shimmering especially on loading screens - some Items on loading screens are from a certain perspective 2D, that means they disappear completely - Loading screens and Items on them are so dark that one can barely distinct the item from the background. - and various problems which are caused by me just running through the install process and barely glimpsing at the notes. If I have the time (which most likely won't be until summerbreak starts (august here) I'll work through all the steps in the guide one at a time, download all the low-res variants, optimize them with DDSopt and not with the cheap stuff, pack them up for WB etc. pp. and maybe then I might be able to run STEP 2.1. Still there are some problems with mods I couldn't distinguish so far: Z-fighting can't be improved by more than a bit, texture shimmering makes me think I'm on LSD or some other s***, and everything is much too dark (I'm pretty sure this is RCRN, though, haven't used it so far). I'll most likely need to double my VRAM to use all the ultimate HiRes variants but I don't want to do that right now. What I would like to know now, is how exactly have YOU, TC, implemented all of those mods on your rig without having the same problems I have??? Just being REALLY curious. Cheers, torminater -
Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
torminater replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Ahh... too bad. Well, just like I thought: My Z-fighting tweaks don't work well if at all with STEP 2.1... It'll take a looooong time to figure out what exactly causes this... Making some educated guesses: I think the mods that edit the mountain ranges make z-fighting a whole lot worse... So, after some specified research I found out, that those mods (list not finished) worsen z-fighting: Enhanced Distant Terrain HQLOD-Meshes 4096K Mountains from Skyrim Realistic Overhaul (to be continued) There are some more as z-fighting had been worse whilst havin installed all mods. I'll add more to this list as I find them. -
This is just a bit too much on top right know. I might have to wait for the next summer break to really set WB up... I'll just do the general install now xD
-
What exactly should I do here? I'm so confused atm I can't even ask a precise question...I installed Wrye bash in Program Files x86 directory (i deactivated UAC for sure) and I copied the ini as it said. So where do I edit which exact Oblivion references to what exact skyrim references? EDIT: I found the references directly under the extremely detailed descriptions. Maybe it's the problem that I'm not a native speaker but what is a installer directory? the folder where mods are stored or what? Am I supposed to install the Mopy folder somewhere else (not in skyrim folder) to avoid directory thrashing? isn't the Mods and Install info folder of NMM then supposed to be somewhere else too?

no. unfortunately not... my internet connection here is far too slow. I'll make a video now and upload it tomorrow! well I'll just let it upload over night. no need to wait for dawn to break that I can start on step 2.1 immediately anyway :D got some trouble with wrye right now but i'll take a closer look at the guide on the wiki and gonna give some "noob" feedback if needed ;-) -
Ok. It's not very detailed explained but here's what you do. 1. Extract BSAs -> you did that? 2. Extract HDDLC-Fix Loos Files -> you did that? 3. Go here and download the main file AND the optional file and then extract both files into separate folders. 4. Edit the optional file (not the readme but the .cmd-file as it is described below. you have to give the 4 exact paths where you extracted: -> High Res DLC 1 -> High Res DLC 2 -> High Res Texture Pack DLC Tweaks -> HD DLC Fix in this exact order. then RUN the .cmd file and click enter repeatedly until the window closes by itself. if it doesn't find a file close the console by pressing Strg+C and verify the path you insterted into the .cmd-file for it.
