  1. Thanks for the input! I'll check the 301.32 Beta driver 64-bit out, and maybe then I'll go back to 301.25 (It says it's supposed to be for gtx 670 and 680, I got GTX 570 SLI). I'll post some feedback, but probably no videos (unless a miracle happens as I try them out and all of the z-fighting vanished)
  2. So, I'm ready for the next step: - Driver 295.73 had the least z-fighting, but Driver 296.10 has similar results. I'll proceed with Driver 295.73 as of tomorrow with my tests. - In the end there isn't a whole lot of difference between the different drivers, so the choice of the driver should be considered wisely. I recommend choosing the driver which presents you with the most performance of all. - The next week will show, whether z-fighting can be reduced a lot or not. Given the time, I might make tweak-tests for the newer drivers, too.
  3. Thanks a lot! I'll check it out. Here's my recent update! I've made a video comparison of the very same in game situation with 5 different nVidia drivers. Here's the link: I would like some feedback: which of the different drivers do YOU think is the best considering z-fighting? You'll have to get maximum resolution first (bottom right corner). Otherwise you cannot see the difference. I included lots of detail in the description. Thanks for your help! :)
  4. Ok, so where do I find them? I'll probably have all the files only back to version 1.3 cuz I started late with Skyrim ...
  5. Hey, it's me again. Work is doing good so far. I'm going to post an update on the drivers asap. What I'ld like to know is if by any chance it might be possible to get every single Skyrim patch as a separate download. I couldn't find anything like that so far. I'ld like to check, whether z-fighting became a lot worse with new updates as I've figured out for myself and especially which update is responsible for that. Maybe that might help some other people who actually know something about programming to find what's causing some graphic cards trouble and others not. Anybody with some leads?
  6. Thank god, I'm looking forward to play on uGridsToLoad=13 xD (without z-fighting ...)
  7. Z-Fighting-Elimination-Crusade What I will try to do is the following: Z-fighting became a far greater nuisance with the beta-patch for me. Don't ask me why, but that's the way it is... This is how I will try to get rid of z-fighting without loss of graphic quality (if possible): Setting: - Skyrim 1.5.26.05 - Launcher by SKSE - near Helgen (Screenshot will be added.) - daytime: afternoon 2 pm. - viewing the mountain range behind the lake (strongest z-fighting for me EVER) Nvidia-Drivers: - Download the 5 latest drivers for my graphics-card: incl. latest beta, the 4 newest WHQL-certified versions: 280.26, 285.62, 295.73, 296.10, 301.24. - Check where there is the least z-fighting. - Not used: 3D, SLI, Nvidia-tweaks, HD-DLC, Mods, ini-tweaks and on Ultra-Settings only. NVidia-CP: - SLI activation: +/-? - 3D activation (hiding effects): +/- - Not used: Nvidia-tweaks, HD-DLC, Mods, ini-tweaks and on Ultra-Settings only. Nvidia Inspector: - try out all different tweaks using if possible the skyrim profiles - every positive effect will be noted by it self - all positive effects will be tried out together and adjusted to create the best effect. - Not used: HD-DLC, Mods, ini-tweaks and on Ultra-Settings only. Skyrim Graphic Profiles: - try out, whether Low-, Medium-, High-Setting lets z-fighting vanish or become close to invisible; if not good enough ULTRA will be used to continue - best profile will be used to continue HD-DLC & Mods: - will be implemented to look for any positive effects (using STEP 2.0.1.a and STEP 2.1 mods) - focus on: LOD-, shadowing-, clouds-, fog-, light-, HD- and terrain-mods and other promising mods (suggestions are welcome) INI-Tweaks: - tweaks of which I know that they have/had a positive effect - implementing tweaks as proposed by various forums - analysing ini configs by DNA , Kieranh7, people who don't have any z-fighting or got rid of it. Conclusion: - summary of all my collected data posted in this forum for reference. Comment: Everybody who has too much time to get rid of it can join me. Every help is thankfully accepted! :)
  8. Ok, so I've been making a video but because of unknown reasons I didn't get the black circles as bad as before. maybe I'll have to disable 3d again.- just did that and ... NO CHANGES! What the hell? kind a weird, and I didn't change any drivers. well my girlfriend killed my system by pulling my keyboard out of my tower whilst trying to create a playlist. so i had to hardreset the BIOS and voilà all the problems seem to have decreased (not only relatively):- z-fighting decreased - water-bug by SLI decreased. only minor abnormalities left - black-circles close to INEXISTANT I'm absolutely baffled. Just looked up if there had been some sort of new patch for skyrim but so far... nothing. No clue but I do like it a lot ;-) So different setup: beta-drivers HD-DLC& BethHiResOptimized(https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9957) ultra-settings Nvidia-settings SLI active, 3D active fshadowbiasscale=1.5 fSplitDistanceMult=5.0000 Let's see. Min FPS=60 z-fighting LOD only: pretty strong z-fighting mid-distance: very few seconds until new textures popup automatically. shadows seem to move when moving towards them, they get lighter at midday. I don't know what's causing it but so far that's the only new problem I discovered (might have been there before.) Wow. Found the sweet spot for testing z-fighting for LOD. Just around Helgen. Looks awful ;-) By the way: z-fighting causes longdistance-clouds to blink madly. So this tweak doesn't really help at all. you may decide if you want dark blinking or white blinking xD I'm going to start testing again by changing one parameter at the time until z-fighting seems to be the least disturbing.
  9. Had the same problem. the SLI-Fix did it for me.
  10. Afaik bethesda won't release any update in the near future. I guess their resources are focused on DLC for XBox and HOPEFULLY getting some fixes for matters like: vibrating shadows, SLI-Water-Artifacts, code-implied bottlenecks, z-fighting and the like. I'd really love to check out skyboost. never did so far, cuz I got to know it too late.
  11. Got some feedback on the z-fighting issue! I still thinkit's better to keep fBlockMaximumDistance at 250000.0000, cuz it works out for me. Setting SkycellRefFadeDistance=300000.0000 should be integrated. I'm looking for the perfect tool to create a video of skyrim whilst I demonstrate the dark circles bug. Any suggestions?
  12. I'm going to look into that, too! OK, so far I got a completely new game started with all maxed out settings with DNA using skyrim and skyrimprefs from DNA ocourse. I encountered several problems: No.1: Shadows are freaking awful. guess that's the "real-time" rendering problem. No.2: As I enter Helgen Keep all in-Game interaction is slowed down by over9000 percent. Gotta figure out, what the hell causes that. Maybe realt-time shadow-rendering? i don't get it. No.3: Any old savegame won't load and result in an immediate CTD on loading screen. No.4: Don't know why, but sometimes I get extreme stuttering whilst moving my 1stperson-view from left to right. But only IN HELGEN KEEP?!?! No.5: Didn't get unbound by Ralof so far. kinda sucks... -.- so not a whole lot of testing possible! Maybe tomorrow I got some time to work on that. General problem: WHERE THE HECK DO ALL THOSE VALUES COME FROM AND WHAT DO THEY DO? Everything I heard about tweaking from NVidia and other sources all the "other" ini-settings don't make any difference. But why can they be implemented, do they work at all or are they getting ignored, or do they need values in a special interval so they get used to render the game? I'm currently loading down the beta-drivers. Maybe that does the fix for everybody and no more tweaking will be necessary for z-fighting? Who knows? ;-)
  13. I'm going to try it out right now jff ;-D
  14. Have you got any exact data as to which values get messed up by DNA? I'ld like to try it out, but today I'm far too busy with other things... If you got some link towards a forum that covers DNA in specific I'ld like to check that one out, too!
  15. Any thoughts about this tool here? https://donotargue.com/cfg-makers/skyrim/
  16. It's definitely worth adding to STEP or the Wiki. Did anybody continue testing different values to decrease z-fighting? Are there any volunteers who will try out the different settings of that one guide I mentioned earlier on this forum with me? I have pretty good rig, so it does work for me but hell that's a lot of z-fighting... HERE I'll start implementing and testing those tweaks but there are too many for me alone to do it all on my own...
  17. Well I don't know what did the trick, cuz I've been implementing a whole ton of config changes. Just came back from this one... Though it seems as if there are still a whole lot more probs with z-fighting. I'm just going to post my ini configs and Nvidia settings. Maybe sunday I'll be able to go more into the details. Here's my prefs ini config. Copy and resize to view the details. Here's my nvida setup It's not perfect but it's pretty good for me at least. Different rigs, different mods, different configs. Still I like the fSplitDistanceMult=3.0000 for mid-distance. maybe increasing it by even more can result in less z-fighting. I'll check it out later. As for the Water bug with SLI: The 3-D-Fix did work perfectly.
  18. OK. I think I fixed the texture flickering closing up to whiterun.I used uGrids=7, too. It does look a whole freaking lot better. you still see some flickering but it's only mid-distance darkness variation (Walls in shadow) or long-distance grey variation (mountains).
  19. Water distortion eliminated! Just kinda hard to figure it out without 3d-hardware ;-) but eventually i guessed the pictures right and it worked out! no more water problems! :) I went down to ugrids 5 and now I'm going to check z-fighting nearing whiterun...
  20. I'm not using any FXAA but maybe RLwC is the bad guy causing the shimmering Also that SLI-3D-Fix didn't help so far. I'm still on it though... I've seen some flickering on buildings, too. But all the flickering got a lot worse as I turned up my uGrids to 7. Before it was a lot less. Also I'm trying to change the TerrainManager section as to where the z-fighting will be reduced as far as possible at least for LODs and textures popping up from the middle of nowhere will be smoothened out to a nice blend. If anybody has a clue as to where I can tweak that I'ld be glad for the advice...
  21. I found out how I can get rid of all most all of the z-fighting. The value that solves almost all the problems for me is changing fSplitDistanceMult=1.5000 to fSplitDistanceMult=2.0000 or fSplitDistanceMult=2.5000 in SkyrimPrefs.ini... Try it out
  22. I'm absolutely sure I didn't see it at all... but that was before 3 Nvidia drivers updates and before 5 or more Skyrim patches and before HD DLC Pack ...
  23. What's kinda disturbing is that all of the z-fighting disappears on medium settings. I would also recommend a HD-DLC-Fix, cuz you're missing some textures eg. bloody wood block and fire afaik. @Nachtfrost: Deutsch? ;-)
  24. How did you enable D3D? i went into regedit and hkeylocalmachine>software>microsoft>Direct 3D there I have one file called It didn't have any value. I gave it the value 1. But how do I know whether D3D is active??? EDIT: Found out that one cannot disable D3D and it's automatically enabled in Windows 7 ...
  25. hey what are your settings in Skyrim launcher, inspector and did you change anything in skyrimprefsini and skyrim ini? I found out that I also have a problem concerning water reflections that vibrate extremely strong whilst I'm moving and all the movement in the water vibrates, too. with or without WATER... Also as soon as I enter a lake eg. near riverwood there is sth like a very dark bar across the water surface that vibrates and if I stand still it moves away from me and disappears after a certain distance... holy moly there are a whole lot of matters I need to fix before the next STEP comes about :/
