  1. OK I see. I was doing both in a single run, for the first time, and I just went on to the next page/stage after extracting.... I've added a tiny note for idiots like me :) Thanks for the help and the guide, other than this I've found it super helpful. In retrospect it was kinda obvious, along with the fact it's taking an hour and a half now rather than about 5 minutes ha
  2. I understand that, to re-phrase my question again, at which point precisely should this ignore option be unticked in the optimization section, if at all ?
  3. "Don't process ..." tells DDSopt to leave the data alone and simply copy or extract it. You would use this only when extracting BSA. Be sure that it is UNticked whenever you want to optimize textures. I guessed that was it's purpose, I'm asking at what point in the process should it be unticked to do the optimizing? Is it at point 5. in Optimizing the textures? I had this this option ticked the whole time and I was worried it might be doing nothing consequently but the produced and repacked Dawnguard BSA did come out significantly smaller... Sorry if I'm being thick... Extracting Textures 5. Click [ignore] from the main menu and tick [Don't process any of the know file types]. This will tell DDSopt to extract the contents of the BSA without performing any optimizations. ... Optimize the Textures 6. Tick [ignore] > [Dont't process any of the known file types] and be sure to click the green check mark on the browsers tab. Click [Process]to essentially move all of the filtered files eliminated in step 4 into the new directory structure without processing any of the already-optimized files.
  4. Can you please confirm that the instruction: Click [ignore] from the main menu and tick [Don't process any of the know file types] at point 5 of "Extracting Textures" is appropriate for the entire process all the way up to the end of "Optimize the Textures" on the next tab? This action is mentioned several times in the interim.
  5. Looks very good now :)
  6. Under - Reminder - Essential Guides Mod Organizer Guide links to "troubleshooting" instead.
  7. Techangel, there is a newer version of the inspector out. The options presented in 1.9.6.8 appear to vary dependent on card, might want to note that. Some of the options in the screens differ from what you are recommending in the text: AA-gamma correction on in screen, Power management -prefer max performance in screen. Cheers for the guide.
  8. Not a biggie but the link for Nvidia drivers links to the italian page for some reason (mario) - https://www.geforce.com/drivers is better
  9. Why are we calling it HDDLC now rather than HRDLC?
  10. Most of the options for the Optimized HDDLC require the HDDLC, it's just the "Full 1024" that doesn't use them. Also, the UHRP is included in v2.2.1, might as well start referencing it since it's here to stay (unless Bethesda fixes every issue o.0)Okie Doke.
  11. The Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized is one-or-the-other with the HRDLC and thus neither should be a core mod, you make a choice based on VRAM? The Unofficial High Resolution Patch we are calling a core mod on the DLC page here, but it's not mentioned in STEP 2.2.0a at all?
  12. In fact that whole section of "HRDLC problems" only applies to those with mroe than 1.5GB VRAM so we could shunt the recommendations for those with less than 1.5 to the top and deal with them, then go on to deal with the bigger VRAM and the HRDLC? Having the three options together looks nice though, and the concept of cleaning the BSAs is good for everyone. Ignore me, I'm tired and can't make my mind up. I've moved the obtaining HRDLC bit down into the heavier option.
  13. I was suggesting something like that but I'm loving the sidebars and that's made me re-think a bit. I agree completely with the layered approach and I think perhaps the sidebars are the ideal vehicle to provide slightly more information regarding ancilliary guides than in the body of the SIG which I think should only really mention them in passing. The sidebars shouldn't contain too much text or else they'll make page look cluttered. On the other hand, as you've done it the first sidebar, a simple and effective action like extracting and repairing the HRDLC is well worth pointing out and introduces the reader to that DDsopt etc. in a straightforward and rewarding way. I think the flow of this page still needs some work. The choice of VRAM options needs to be introduced very early on because those following recommendations for less than <1GB up to 1.5GB will be downloading the optimized pack and could avoid the HRDLC download altogether. I suggest detailed instructions at the bottom but I'm going to add a line near the regarding this choice.
  14. Hey guys, I made some experimental edits to the DLC page, I would appreciate it if you had a look and tell me what you think. It might look a bit savage but my aim was to make the installation guide concise. I've noticed that some information is repeated at times across the guides but I think keeping the main install guide brief will be less daunting and more straight-forward for readers and allow them to familiarise themselves to a degree with further actions they could take with help from the in depth information in the ancillary guides. See where I put ACTION at the bottom of HRDLC Problems? I was thinking a graphical or textual indication, similar to "benchmark" in the new STEP 2.2.1 would make the guide easier to follow. Â Also, it looks to me like at least some significant parts of these two guides: BSA extraction and optimization (https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:BSA_Extraction_and_Optimization#tab=The_Basics) and DDSopt (https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt_%26_Texture_Overhauls) address some of the same topics and I think this should be addressed as a priority. Could they be combined into one? The section I edited wrongly links to one when the pertinent information is in the other. If someone with more experience of those topics than I could look at them please. The last 4 tabs of the guide do not deal with Skyrim installation but contain basic information it probably makes sense to include so in lieu of moving that information could the whole guide be renamed Skyrim Installation and General Modification Guide (or something more catchy, I don't have time to think about it now) ? Cheers!
  15. Hi, The lighting guide needs to be looked at again as RLwC has been superseded by RLO. Will you just swap RLO in and change the broken links for now or re-test with the new mod? EDIT: Seeing from the banner you're aware of this.. won't let me just delete this post.
  16. Please do keep us updated, I was waiting for 2.2.1 but might start later today. I really like the look of this mod, most of these sort of tweak packages quickly elicit snorts of derision from me but I like the looks of this a lot.
  17. "Download the HD Textures DLC Fix Loose Files Version and install." Now needs to be removed too.
  18. Removed, thanks for noticing. That guide definitely needs a makeover. You're welcome, I just delved into this project and I'm very interested, looks like some awesome work.
  19. In the "Hacks" section of the guide Skyboost is mentioned. This is obsolete unless someone is running Skyrim 1.4.2 but why on earth would they be?
