  1. Got around to playing skyrim for a bit. I can confirm that the z-fighting has increased with the new 2.1.1 STEP setup. However, its still nearly not as bad as it was without your ini tweaks :) In addition, i still think that these tweaks are a godsend if you a running vanilla skyrim with bad z-fighting!
  2. Cheers z92, this is actually a good recommendation for inclusion into the mod testing wiki, would that be alright?
  3. Could you please post more details regarding your setup such as ultra or high settings, AF, AA, SSAO, etc. I would also suggest running around outside of whiterun, around the walls, as this seems to require much more VRAM for me. A brief note is that with 1280x1024 with all hi-res STEP mods DDSopt, Skyrim eats on average up to 1.5GB vram, and 1.9GB around whiterun (not sure about inside), at about 50fps. I can post more details of my graphics settings if anybody wants. Switching to 1920x1080 kills my fps. Didnt check VRAM use but assumed it went over 2GB.
  4. Gentlemen, although this is a good discussion regarding the save games, I would like to keep this thread based on Wiki Page Suggestions. Since the save game idea has been incorporated into the mod testing guide, please post any further discussion regarding the topic in the Mod Testing Guide thread. That or create a new thread somewhere else :) Thanks!
  5. - Camera mod - DDSopt if testing texture mods - videos i. fraps ii. youtube - gifs i. hosting sites - image galleries i. hosting sites - compatebility checking i. tes5edit, tes5gecko when released ii. ck workarounds - wrye bash i. esmfy esps to fix ctds - disable quad core and force skyrim to use dual, ctd fix - INI tweaks / WB ini tweaks i. medium default settings for stability a. maybe host ii. papyrus logging iii. mod tracing (need to test) - in game tools i. elysmeminfo - software tools i. nvidia inspector, skyrim performance monitor, gpu-z Just some ideas, from frihyland and me. Any body else have some suggestions, the more the merrier :) Im also running into into an overlap issue with the troubleshooting guide. For example, i recommend papyrus logging, just incase the mod causes ctd so you can check if its a script from the mod. However this would also fit into troubleshooting. Should I write it up in the mod testing, as well as add it to the troubleshooting guide? Or maybe link from the testing guide to the troubleshooting where the papyrus logging can be detailed?
  6. Hehe, thanks anyways z92. The issue was more with the [GUIDE] prefix for the forum thread, which i dont have access to. Frihyland fixed that nicely though, cheers! Edit: Argh, i seem to have lost the [GUIDE] prefix. Happened after adding [WIP] to the title of the thread, if anyone could add it back that would be great. Ill leave the title alone afterwards.
  7. Very nice ElvenArcher, especially with the new parenthesis :) This thread kills my browser though, scrolling gets incredibly jerky!
  8. A drop down menu from wiki menu would be great, much more elegant than the thread! As would a link to the forum thread existing in the wiki. Both points would cover the functionality I requested.
  9. Discussion topic: Step Guide-Mod Testing by Step Modifications Starting a thread for discussion and suggestions surrounding the Mod Testing Guide wiki page. Will be implementing some points i made in a similar thread, as well as some excellent points frihyland made. Please feel free to add what you think is relevant information, as the point of this guide is to produce a standardized testing protocol for STEP.At the moment i have added some very basics steps concerning overclocking, background applications, defragging, etc.Frihylands suggestions: On another note, i do not seem to have access to the [Guide] prefix, so i have had to make it a [WIP] prefix with [Guide] in the Title .
  10. I will be testing out this mod + CCO + SPO + WAF to see if all are fully compatible. I think Weapons and Armour Fixes are included in the USKP, so not sure if it is necessary?
  11. In my imagination, it would involve seeing a sticking thread when browsing the guides/ tutorials section of the forum. Inside the thread would be a simple list of current wiki guides. Maybe even guides that are only available on the forums. A very rough example, -Completed Wiki Guides- Example Title of Guide (I.e. SIG) - Wiki Link - Link to the thread on forum Example 2 - Wiki Link - Link to thread -WIP Wiki Guides- Example 1 - Wiki Link - Forum Link -Forum Guides- etc. Envisioning a sort of central database for all guides that can be viewed in one post. As is mentioned, not really necessary, adds a lot of redundancy, but it might be nice to have a list of all guides on forums and wiki in one place so one can have a quick skim through. This is really only so that those people who browse the forums for guides will be directed easily. And dw, Roogal, got a chance to read your post before you edited it, it wasnt foolish at all. The wiki button can be easily missed if one isnt looking for it.
  12. Well the default file works fine for me without any changes, WB is pretty good at automatically detecting the correct paths for skyrim atm. Not 100% sure but i think you can disregard bash.ini editing currently. Please correct me if im wrong though.
  13. I would like to start a thread on requests, suggestions and recommendations for new wiki pages that is open to everyone. This thread should hopefully act as a seed for ideas and brainstorming. If you would like to see something on the wiki, but are either too busy or not knowledgeable enough on the subject, you can post a request here. Hopefully this will spawn a new thread around the idea where the potential page can be discussed in more detail and expanded. Suggestions and comments about wiki pages that already exist should not be posted here but in the relevant thread for that wiki page. I don't expect there to be a need for many wiki pages, especially since the current quality is very high and covers most of what is at the moment necessary in my opinion. I also understand that people are also busy with other projects. Therefore this thread can also act as a filter, separating what should be in the wiki from topics that are not necessary. Ill kick this off then. 1. Performance Guide - Already suggested by z92 in the Good Performance Hunting thread. 2. Mod Testing Guide - Suggested by me, sort of, a good practice guide for either testing a mod to recommend for step, or to test a mod for step if TC would like help 3. Mod Review Guide - pretty much the same as the guidelines for reviews/ suggestions that exist for the forums, but fleshed out. 4. Nvidia Settings - already detailed in the STEP guide, but could use some pictorial backup, as well as some more info about various Nvidia Inspector options. ATI CCC is up on the wiki, so maybe this should be as well. Not too sure though. Those are the ideas I have at the moment. Personally I would like to get to work on the wiki page for mod testing, probably today at some point. Let me know what you think, and if you have any further ideas!
  14. I would also like to request a stickied thread that acts as a bibliography of current wiki pages, with links to the wiki page as well as its thread on the forums. This way we can see what is on offer in one thread, rather than having to view multiple threads, and/ or visit the wiki site. If you want I could even start it. However i thought it wise to ask it as a request as it may not even be necessary or wanted.
  15. Thanks for that z92, much appreciated. I can confirm that your bat script works flawlessly. Frihyland, I would like to suggest a minor change to your wonderful SIG. Its great that you have a warning that users will need to wait for these tools to be update when new patches are released. Currently you recommend SkyBoost, however since its the only unsupported injector atm, it may be wise to put a note that SkyBoost is currently not compatible with the latest patch, therefore idiot proofing the SkyBoost section. Ultimately not really necessary though if one reads the section properly.
  16. Since i can now access my steam account again, i ran DDSopt overnight for the STD vanilla textures, the HRDLC, as well as for Skyrim 2k HD, and SRO. I took hours, probably over 5, so I dont think its the wrong settings, used the wiki guide for DDSopt. I also have a decent (i5) CPU. Im not sure what the difference is though between DDSopt and the Optimizer and why the Optimizer would be so much shorter. Perhaps there should be a note in the wiki guide that using DDSopt for vaniall textures, HRDLC etc, will take several hours? Although knowing my terrible reading habits its probably stated but I just skimmed over it :P
  17. With the latest skse for patch 1.5.26 there is no longer a script folder included. Additionally, there is new version up that contains some fixes for the most current patch, so maybe this may solve your problem. However it is still a WIP. Cant help to try though.
  18. I tested out Line Gamma and Gamma Correction using Nvidia Inspector, GTX 560 Ti 2GB and latest 301 beta drivers to see if they had any impact on z-fighting with and without torminaters tweaks. I could observe no reduction in z-fighting when tested w/o the tweaks, and also no negative impact when tweaks were applied. As far as i can tell the only impact of the two gamma tweaks is virtually nothing, no fps hit. This may have been my imagination as well, but the gamma tweaks may have made snow more luminous. This was done a few days ago before the STEP update, so once i can, I will recheck after the update, although i doubt it will be any different.
  19. Great mod, I have been using it since version 1.3, and have interacted with some of the NPCs that have been fully voiced, and other that only have subtitles atm. So far some of the conversations have been pretty funny, and fit perfectly with the lore and setting. Even though these NPCs are not quest essential, and neither give quests, the voiced conversations are well done and quite long in some cases. A good example is a new NPC in Riverwood. I cant remember his name, and am unable to check at the moment, but i do remember going through all the dialogue options which took about 5 minutes. Very long for a non essential NPC! It was also fun to speak with him, so its not time wasted. This mod is perhaps not base STEP worthy because it is content based by adding NPCs, but i would fully recommend that it be included in any addon packs that may be released in the future.
  20. Nice, thanks Vond! Ill try these out once im able to get onto skyrim again. I dont use a FPS limiter and can easily turn v-sync off.
  21. MadW must have detected a metaphysical shift emanating from far to the Northeast, which he apparently acted upon subliminally, creating a confluence of sub-conscious thought, resulting in this synergy. :P Oh dear, I wonder what else I might be open to subliminally. The first week I try to live without my trusty aluminium hat and this happens, back on it goes!
  22. I can confirm what frihyland wrote. I experience this issue from time to time and i have a i5-2400, 8gb RAM and 560 ti 2gb VRAM, ugrids 7 with good fps outdoors. MemInfo will regularly show up to 3gb ram usage in heavy worldspace areas, for instance around whiterun. Almost the same exact symptoms, this happens when attempting to load a worldspace save, but usually after removing a mod. With MemInfo on ram loading stops, and after 5s of no movement I know its an infinite loading screen. The only solution that works for me is to load the latest interior save and continue from there. If the problem still persits even when trying to get from the interior to the exterior worldspace, I coc qasmoke to the developers testing cell, pcb, wait 30 days and then coc to a worldspace. The 30 days wait might be unnecessary, but if the problem persists this usually fixes it.
  23. Torminator, you are the man :) Your ini tweaks have drastically reduced my z-fighting on distant mountains! Thanks so much, both for the tweaks and the hard work you put into figuring out the fix! Cheers again :D
  24. Thanks for the WB ini edits! Not sure if this should be in the WB guide, but with current SVNs, there is a problem with correct detection of mergeable mods and levled lists merging/ overriding with bash tags on mods. Rather than importing the Bashed Patch, Skyrim.esp from WB for use, one must generate a new bashed patch by right clicking on mods tab, then file tab, then navigating to file dropdown menu and selecting create new bashed patch. This new bashed patch will be Skyrim compatible and thus correctly detect and merge mods as well as lvled lists.
  25. Thanks for the article, was indeed a good read, if a bit depressing Had never considered that anthropomorphic addition of high entropy heat to the earth would dictate a steady state economy in such a short time. Sent this to a mate who studies physics, as well as discussed it with a relative who is deeply involved in the oil industry both on a technical and policy base. Both were flabbergasted by it. The physics student is actually still skeptible of the earth as an entropic system as it is laid out here, he believes it far more complicated. Interestingly, my relative made the point that currently it wouldnt be too hard to adapt drilling for oil on earth to drilling for water on asteroids, as well as liquid/ solid refining/ mining to a zero G environment. In his opinion, lack of gravity is not technically a problem; it would just require more energy.
