unclear STEP instructions: Extended & Core
Nirodha replied to whismerhill's question in General Skyrim LE Support
@whismerhill - Don't feel bad, I'm a native english speaker and I too was getting lost following the guide. The confusion comes when the guide first refers to STEP:Extended in the nomenclature section, which includes a hyperlink that links to the STEP:Mandate page. Here it describes Step:Extended ("aka the STEP Pack") as "STEP:Extended is a complete Expansion Pack". This leads you to expect STEP:Extended to appear on the STEP:Packs page, which it isn't. This is all just a misunderstanding of terms and old hyperlinks and old referrences. I think this will all be clarified in the next release, if I understand correctly. -
Missing Distant Textures? - [SOLVED]
Nirodha replied to Nirodha's question in General Skyrim LE Support
So I've narrowed it down even further. It was a file in the classic map package, which is one of the main bash installer packages. Inside that package is a file "A Quality World Map Installer-4929\Map Classic All Roads\textures\terrain\Tamriel\objects\tamriel.objects.dds". This file is not included in the standard and HiRes packages. It is supposed to apply the color texture to distant objects. This file however is just a colored square. Apparently the game use the same textures for LOD objects as it does for objects on the map. I was surprised to see a WIP package included in the main file and not labelled as WIP. -
Missing Distant Textures? - [SOLVED]
Nirodha replied to Nirodha's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I found it! It took a complete reinstall. I tried reinstalling the texture mods only but nothing cure it. Then I uninstalled everything one STEP at a time. HA! It was a UI mod: A Quality World Map. Apparently, using the classic map option causes the issue. I switched to the Standard-HiRes map option and everything is fine now. It's amazing how proficient you get at installing over 200 mods when you do it a few times. TA and Z thanks for the assist. Strangely enough I was working on Zs ENB presets to compare RCRN and COT for TA's poll when I noticed this issue. Fitting you two would be the one's to help out. -
Missing Distant Textures? - [SOLVED]

I don't have this issue with a complete STEP, but purple is a missing texture issue. You may have to go back and reinstall your texture mods. If you used TPC, be sure you included all the required mods and check out your log file to see if you're missing any textures from there. (SRO is no longer available and the majority of textures from TPC were SRO so you'll have to skip it but it won't cause those issues) Start by reinstalling your LODs though. Also, if you're using WB you can check for any conflicts or missing textures there. Do you happen to know which texture these would be? -
Missing Distant Textures? - [SOLVED]

Yes they are only like this at LOD distance. TFC to fly over to them and they appear to be normal maps only. TCL to walk toward them and they disappear completely. Mipmaps maybe? -
Anybody know what would cause this? *edit typo

Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering
Nirodha replied to torminater's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Woohoo! I contributed something useful! I should mention that by doing this every time you open the launcher it will try to detect your video hardware and automatically set your quality level. Of course it can't, but it really wants to. Just click OK and continue on. I rarely use the launcher because I use the SKSE loader. -
Black Circles, z-fighting and texture shimmering

I usually lock my custom ini's by setting the file as read-only. This way, verify cache or launcher won't undo my hard work. -
Skrybe! Thank you! edit: I just realized I'm now using a four of shademe's mods.

I swear I saw a Mod that recorded and logged the console's output. I can't find it now. It was named something like sky scribe I think. I want to be able to have a copy of the console for things like showing all active and completed quests for a character. Anybody know anything that will do this?

@pcg4m3r Did you ever do this or are you waiting on a response? I'm hoping for the feedback.

I cut my Modding Teeth on NMM, but ever since the update restricted the ability to rename the mods I've stopped using it. I jumped over MO straight to WB. I'm not nearly as comfortable with WB yet, but it is definitely the superior product. I would recommend NMM for noobs and educate yourself up to WB. I'm curious about MO's virtual Data folder however. I may play around with it this weekend.

I'd be surprised if that rig can run more than half of these simultaneously. I'm running with slightly better specs and I don't think I could run all of these. I would say prioritize based on your playing style. For example, my wife made fun of me for spending hours getting the best looking body textures, eyes, face, armor etc. Then I play almost exclusively in first person. It doesn't make any sense. I could have done without these mods and invested the VRAM in better looking trees or an awesome ENB or something.

Quick question regarding the Final Checklist from the wiki. It mentions setting AA to 0 in the launcher if using SMAA, then recreating the INIs, and then replacing the newly created vanilla INIs with your tweaked backups. Why change AA settings if you're just going to delete them?

It is not lore-friendly, but... I don't think I care. Just wow. I may have to make an exception for this one.

ACCEPTED Better Animal Footsteps (by Volnaiskra)
Nirodha replied to Korentin's topic in Skyrim LE Mods
I like it. I was already using Quieter spiders by Hexaae. This is a better option. Best part is that it's a clean replacement of the vanilla sound files. No unnecessary .esp or scripts. Best part it you can try it out, use for weeks if you like, and uninstall it without any negative effects. -
I've been concerned about BFS for a while now. I am getting frequent instability when a storm mage battle breaks out. At first, I thought it was VRAM bursting, but it happens at 0.7x too.I greatly appreciate you guys checking these mods for errors. Keep up the good work. I'll keep reading.
