  1. I did a search for this on the forums and didn't see it addressed. Â Has this been tested at all as a possible memory mitigation measure?
  2. It'll be interesting to see what the guidance is in LE. Â
  3. Thanks for the advice! Â I'll take a look at full towers and server racks in particular.
  4. I'm not sure yet; I'll be looking at that once it becomes necessary (I'm moving into a new place in a couple of weeks, and once we decide on a TV I'll probably look at what we need for the center). Probably an HTPC specific case unless there's some crazy reason not to. Media server will probably also be the main file server, so I'll want to have plenty of space for drives. Phazer, how are you running three cards at once without SLI on one of them? Or am I misunderstanding your post?
  5. Actually, I got it for $1020. The Superclocked EVGA Titan and the normal EVGA Titan both cost 1020$ on Newegg, oddly enough. And yes, it is total, glorious overkill. I can't wait to run Skyrim Revisited on it :D I put the Haswell on a Corsair H90 and I've been quite pleased, even though the instillation instructions were written by a poorly-paid chimp with a drinking problem. The rest is air-cooled; I have a Corsair 800D case and I put some extra fans up top to get some active push. It's a little noisy but you stop noticing once your attention is focused on something else. Given that I plan to be using headphones (to spare my fiance from various explosions and death screams) it matters even less. I didn't really want to dick around with a Full Watercool All The Time setup, and fortunately the blower on the Titan is just dandy. Even if it is upside-down. That's good to hear about Best Buy, I'll keep that in mind. And I agree on your processor-my upgrade is kind of silly given the lower OC on Haswell compared to Sandy Bridge, but I figured since this will be my last refresh for a while I figured I should get something new, and Haswell is the best of what's new. Can't figure out how to get another quote on here without screwing up my post, so techangel85: I'm using my 'old' parts to build an HTPC. I'll probably keep it Windows.
  6. I just wanted to share my recent PC systems refresh with some folks who would likely appreciate it :D Sapphire ATI 6970 -> EVGA GTX Titan SC (Usually jumps up to around 1050-1100 boost with the settings I've put on it) 4.4 ghz i7-2600k -> 4.4 ghz i7-4770k (Given that a lot of the Haswell chips were duds for OC, I suppose I should feel lucky I didn't lose any hertz) ASRock Fatal1ty Z68 Professional Gen3 -> ASRock OC Formula Z87 Intel 128 mb SSD -> Samsung 256 gb SSD (Four times as fast! :D) 16 gigabytes of 1866mhz memory -> Same (Didn't seem like much sense in increasing size or speed) I ran Furmark on maximum settings and the Titan just sailed along at a smooth 30 fps, so I think I should be good for the next three years or so!
  7. Well, you do them in batches, like in the DDSopt guide. But yeah, like much of the rest of STEP, it does still take a time investment. Set a weekend aside ;)
  8. Many happy returns, Farlo!
  9. Monty, you're awesome, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
  10. If I had a choice between a card with 4 gigabytes of VRAM but less memory bandwidth and a smaller memory bus or a card with 3 gigabytes but with 20% more memory bandwidth and a 50% larger memory bus, do you know if the gains in memory bandwidth and memory bus help to offset increasing demands on VRAM over time?
  11. I use it on Win7 set for 1 minute intervals. I very rarely notice a stutter, and it helps a great deal to keep memory use down.Â
  12. I agree. I think this benefits the mod community as a whole. And if we're super-extra-lucky, some of those minor improvements will help with the memory issues we've been having.
  13. We'll see; they'll be continuing to make minor updates. Since we don't know where the problem is, it could be a 'minor' issue. We lack enough information to have much of a clue either way.
  14. Would it still be considered a feature if nobody noticed until recently? ;)
  15. No. Only when I get a reply from Bethsoft about this.Gotchya. Hopefully they'll respond. Gotta make it sound like a vanilla issue that effects users with high-end systems. Er, but it's not. And that would be quite obvious from their perspective. Misrepresenting the problem is not productive to getting it fixed, I think.Yea, true. Well hopefully we'll be able to reproduce the problem vanilla-wise. Given that Skyrim has a memory-leak, I suppose it's possible that you could reproduce it with the hi-res textures packs in a semi-reasonable amount of time. That would likely still put you in the "non-mainstream user" category as it is likely you would have to be playing continuously for a long, long time...

  17. Unfortunately the only issue I'm having is the 3 gb RAM CTD. VRAM is 2.7 GB out of 3 GB which is fine and my fps is basically a constant 60 even with extreme S.T.E.P. It's just the damn RAM issue :(. I really hope someone can figure out a loophole for this because I feel that more and more users are going to run into this problem as they upgrade their rigs and try to run extreme step. But optimization and VRAM utilization will also translate into RAM savings for the process. I believe that this has been established on this thread somewhere. The author of HD DLC Optimized said: "Unfortunately no, reducing texture size saves VRAM only, to save RAM you have to look for a completely different mod I suppose... or remove some scrip-intensive mods!" Is the author aware that Skyrim mirrors textures in RAM? I don't know how commonly well known that is.
  18. What exactly is skyrim revisited?Take a look!
  19. Yup! Going full-on Revisited with less than 3 GB of RAM will cause CTDs in my experience.
  20. No need to accuse someone of lying. There could be other factors at play.
  21. Okay, I appear to have a successful install of Revisited. *party horns* However, it appears that there are two textures (just the two that I've found) that are feeling fabulous and/or that Skyrim apparently can't find. Â I tried disabling Tobes, as I figured that was the culprit (being the highest priority for things that appeared to be wooden furniture) to no avail. It appears that a specific kind of wooden bench table and all iron chains are missing their textures. Â Here are a couple screenshots: Any ideas on what the conflict could be?Â

    Help Wanted

Okay, all done with triangles for F-M! As an aside, I almost didn't see the "Further results" link at the bottom right for some of the more voluminous categories. If possible, making it a bit more eye-catching might not be a bad idea.

I should probably elaborate: done in terms of triangles, not done in terms of information completeness.
