Who are you decribing again? You, or everyone over 25? As I said, I was just wondering. I wasn't expecting you to have nearly finished any aspect of the update. What made you think that? Personally, I am asking because I think isoku made some cool stuff, and it's the main reason why I merged my own water assets with RWT eons ago. I'd like to see his stuff properly realised. Of course it will take a while, and it's nice to see you picking it up and asking around for help.

I went to my inbox to reply but noticed this topic, so I'll ask here instead. Why not? I recall Holidays having some rather angular meshes, like the jack o'lanterns. Have you found a suitable replacement for these? To be clear though, I'm not offering any services other than that remeshing I already offered. Just curious is all. I'm also very happy you are sane and not upscaling to 4K for these objects.

ACCEPTED Just Ice (by SparrowPrince)
CaptainKumquat replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Yes, I hate noticing this now because I'm thinking of figuring out how I can best go in and add a layer of 3D snow over the ice. At the end of the day, the 2D shader snow doesn't cut it, and glaciers tend to have a lot of snow encompassing them. This would put my other current texfure work on hold, so that's why I hate it right now, lol.- 27 replies

ACCEPTED Just Ice (by SparrowPrince)
CaptainKumquat replied to TechAngel85's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Just a super quick vanilla shot on this (with RWT as I like to run that for testing), but I have decided to update all the textures in the mod now I have been learning "texture stuff". I'll see if I can fix the bright tiling issues in that comparison post above too. The patterns look good, I think, but the game always weirds me out with the ice shading. It's like the specular just diffuses to rough at certain angles, so ignore that. It should all be glossy. As usual, I'm trying to match the vanilla glaciers while adding some extra details found IRL. Modding Bethesda games has always reminded me of that part in Die Hard where Bruce Willis shoots up the cop car and shouts, "Welcome to the party, pal!"

I recently posted to @z929669 that Affinity Suite, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator alternative, is soon to be free for non-profits, but they now have a 6 month free trial for everyone, and it doesn't require any payment details to be entered. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/trial/ I have had these programs for a few years now. They feel and function very similar to Adobe's software, but they don't have a monthly subscription fee. Serif have just been bought out by Canva, so make of that and decide as you will. It's currently still much better than Adobe's terrible model, so hopefully it stays that way. For modders, Affinity Photo doesn't support DDS, which is weird, but you can use numerous file types like PSD in and out and convert them externally with programs like NVIDIA Texture Tools or AMD Compressonator.

TESTING ERM - Enhanced Rocks and Mountains (by SparrowPrince)
CaptainKumquat replied to DoubleYou's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
@z929669 Good, thanks. I mean, the texture pack has always been optional, but it would be nice to have some quick updated shots. I have been evolving my vanilla Skyrim rock techniques, lol. Also, I'll just drop this here why we are talking, but non-profits will soon be able to get Affinity Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator alternative with no subscription) for free. Might be worth looking into, right? Criteria: https://www.canva.com/canva-for-nonprofits/eligibility-guidelines/ General information: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/business/nonprofit/ Sadly, they were recently bought out by Canva, but I have had this software for a few years, and it's been great. Hopefully it stays that way.- 43 replies

TESTING ERM - Enhanced Rocks and Mountains (by SparrowPrince)
CaptainKumquat replied to DoubleYou's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Okay, they are up on the page now. @z929669 Any chance you could update the screenshot comparisons on the ERM LOD page using these new textures whenever you can? Cheers.- 43 replies

TESTING ERM - Enhanced Rocks and Mountains (by SparrowPrince)
CaptainKumquat replied to DoubleYou's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Thank you. Great to hear. To be honest, if I found myself questioning if they should look rougher, the answer was always that z would say hell damn yes.- 43 replies

TESTING ERM - Enhanced Rocks and Mountains (by SparrowPrince)
CaptainKumquat replied to DoubleYou's topic in Skyrim SE Mods
Anyone got any feedback on these new textures for ERM before I upload them? They are meant to be vanilla-style replacements, and I have been eyeing vanilla textures moreso than last time. Thanks.- 43 replies

Hmm, I think W&C has one effect for first and third person. Let me check... Yes, it does - coldbreath1st.nif. Is that installed? I'm not sure if it's a mod specific bug, but maybe @TechAngel85 has seen this issue being he manages it? Maybe it's a conflict, but the mod has its own scripts and effects, so maybe not? If not, I'd say you will have to do the old annoying disable 5 mods at a time to see if it goes away. If you can norrow it down to another mod, then post it on the W&C bug report section for future reference.

I Think My NPC Is Coming To Life! LOL - Share Yours Too!
CaptainKumquat replied to mooit's topic in Step Banter Inn
She looks pretty normal, and I mean that in an appeciative sense. A lot of the characters I see posted around look like cartoon characters. Well done! I'd post mine, but I'm still stuck in test phase default Dragonborn atm. Also, Tech knows this, but I'm unoorganised and lose everything - including old character pics. -
That's good. Ours are nearly all on large bridges. I have personally come across only one, but you only payed the toll one way. I asked about this, and the guy in the booth told me bluntly that it's because the bridge crosses two counties, and one was nicer than the other.

They are usually flat or crinkle cut. I've had Five Guys fries, and they were thicker than McDonald's, so kind of an inbetween vs traditional British chips. FG's were incredibly salty though, even moreso than McD's. I thought that was impossible, but nope. What about freeways? I very much doubt they are all toll free now, right?

Flat and apartment are kind of interchangeable these days. People will know and use both. Windshield sounds like some trademarked technology used to sell weatherproof jackets to me. We'd use windscreen, yes. Cookies stand on their own from biscuits, mainly due to branding, but some would say a cookie is just a biscuit with chocolate pieces. French fries are different from chips. Chips are thicker, but you could call french fries thin chips. Fries is just quicker to say though, I guess. You'd have a problem calling petrol gas because when someone says gas, then 99% of the time someone will think of natural gas. Dropping the u is just a difference in simplified English vs traditional English. I don't like using that slang. For no other reason than I just don't like it along with the word loo. Mostly acceptable to me is ciggie, but I personally prefer cigarette in full. Same with loo, but that sounds way too posh, so toilet, bathroom, bog or crapper is fine. Seriously though, this... That is all.

IPS has terrible black levels. The blacks are basically dark grey. VA panels have better blacks, but they can have a motion smearing effect that some people absolutely find offensive. OLED blacks are perfectly black, but for static scenes (like a desktop), it has the possibility to create burn-in of that displayed content. Mini-LED is also a thing and would mitigate some of the drawbacks with OLED and can get brighter, but OLED overall gives the best picture. It's also a bit more complicated as most IPS/VA panels are either edge lit or full array. The latter means they divide the screen into multiple zones for improved blacks and contrast. HDR would be acceptable on these screens. It's still not as good as OLED though, as OLED has pixel-level control over such things. Yes, I went down this rabbit hole a few years ago.

I can't specifically find it right now, but there was a recent-ish poll from The Associated Press that said support for US legal immigration has overall declined. It's probably just not as visible as the illegal kind because illegal immigration is a high profile political tool. BUT, It could be skewed by ignorant people don't know/care about the difference between both types of immigration. The US is much more accepting of legal immigrants than somewhere like Australia though. They can be very xenophobic, even for mere short term visitors. I am always happy to see phrases like 'cup of tea' have made into your vocabulary. I think this proves what z was saying about the "melting pot". I also see 'lift' used instead of 'elevator' quite often now. We just need you to use 'car park' as an option for 'parking lot' and then the circle will be complete.

It was delivered by a woman who had it on the back seat of her car on a hot summers day. T'was a pro Amazon delivery. Maybe it's just infused with deadly solar radiation? By the way, do you leave the "HDR" off? It's honestly not real HDR, and it just blows bright objects out. It looks like poop, but I didn't buy it for that anyway, and I cap the brightness to 200 nits. I also cap to 120 FPS/117 FPS to reduce graphics card heat buildup. That also allows 10-bit colour to be enabled too.
-
That's very true, and I was legitimately wanting to learn more about proper US grub. The variety is a great strength. I don't get the distain some people in the US have towards legal immigrants (or foreigners in general is what they really mean). It has certainly been extremely beneficial to modern day USA for culture in general.

I wasn't asking that, no. More being tongue-in-cheek, but corn bread seems okay, yeah. Pumpkin pie? I mean, it's probably Tudor as a guess. They loved a good pie. A hamburger is just cooked ground meat wrapped in bread, but I'll be an angel and give it to them.

@TechAngel85 By the way, speaking of American diets, I was interested in looking at American cuisine the other day. I clicked the first "list" I saw after a search, and three of the items were Twinkies, hot dogs and apple pie. Twinkies are mass produced junk food, sausages are Mesopotamian (?) and apple pie was invented in England. What is this?

@z929669 It sounds like PTSD that has developed from having to deal with this community. Maybe get @TechAngel85 over to destroy the STEP server with the aikido he learned from Steven Seagal. Only then will you be as right as rain again.

Yep, I think I looked at that, but Rtings said the M27Q has more features for a similar price. Not sure if they mentioned the orange glow "feature" though! Heh, you most likely made the better choice. I'd want something with proper HDR too in the future. It looks outstanding on a proper screen to the point I can't decide what I think is a better technology: HDR or VRR. They both add so much.
-
How are you liking that? I have the M27Q for now as a stop gap monitor. Even for the amazingly discounted price I paid for it back when, Amazon discount glitch, it's still a bit hit and miss. For example, there's noticable orangey-red backlight bleed around the edges of the screen in dark scenes. 1440p is perfect for the size though. I think 1080p might look a tad blurry? Just waiting it out for OLEDs to come down and the market to stabilise. Maybe a few more years... The Game of Interest is a very slow paced game, so you won't notice any tearing anyway. Don't buy the variable rate edition though.
