  1. Maybe it was the shot. I still agree that a 25% drop in fps seems a little large. In the riften forest going from ugrids 5 to 7 cost me less then 10% on my 290 @1600p, STEP+NLA. It may also have something to do with render distances of certain ENB effects or SLI scaling.
  2. Have fun! Trink one for me too, I'm a little ill and have to let go of the streak I had over the last weeks  Yep, if Azirok updates his patches graphics tags would probably mean all the conflicts can be solved by load ordering and bashing alone, which is really nice.
  3. Thanks for the info! The reason I am reluctant about it is, that I couldn't tell which file conflicts are intentional and which aren't. I currently don't have an install so I cannot check if SRO overwrites anything non vanilla at all.
  4. Sorry I haven't been clearer. There are more files in the 2k archive of SRO, someone told me those are redundant HDDLC files. Those files where deleted from the 1k-2k optimal archive. I would like to delete them from the 2k archives as well but would rather not go manually through all the files if there is a tool that can do it for me Is there a program that compares files in folder a and b and deletes all files from a that are not present in b?
  5. Sorry in advance for the lazy question: Is there progress on the graphics bashed tags for Skyrim? It would eliminate much of the required patching for STEP. Since The Paarthurnax Dilemma ought to be compatible with this release of Requiem (haven't chekced), only BOYD, GDO and WAF/CCF/CCO would be left for patching.
  6. That video is kind of interesting and explaines the process. But I can imagine it's kind of hard to understand what's going on if you are not familliar with the record and subrecord structure.
  7. Hey, I'm slowly starting to reinstall skyrim and all my mods, wanting to try 2k. Afaik the 2k version of SRO has some redundant files. Is there a tool that allows me to automatically delete all the files in the 2k folder that are not present in the 1k-2k optimized version? Thanks in advance! Spock
  8. Could you post a link to the video you mentioned? Thanks!
  9. From the techreport review the Strix (Asus) one is insanely quiet. The EVGA is still ok I guess, but the Strix is rediculously quiet.
  10. If you are set on a Nvidia card - yes. But the 290 performs very similar to the 970 at 1600p. The review is not exactly fair here because the 290 vapor-x performs similar to a reference 290x. It really depends on what game you are playing and how much it's optimized for the more complex AMD architecture. I expect the 290 to be better in the long run as it has better shader performance which I expect to be more imporatant then geometry in future game releases. Power is an issue with the 290 though.
  11. What I meant with "excessively slow" is that fps pummel when processing textures from RAM.
  12. Like I said, the real world difference is the texture resolution you can use. If you don't have enough vram for the textures you choose, the game will stutter when turning because new textures have to be loaded from ram to vram at hoc (better to have the vram to preload them). If you seriously don't have enough vram fps will drop to a crawl because processing textures from ram is excessively slow. So vram means you can use higher resolution textures. Think of textures like an image sticked to the geometry. Generally speaking the higher the resolution of the image the more detail you can see. This depends on the image and view distance of course. The real world difference between 3gb vram and 4gb vram in Skyrim seems to be the ability to go for 2k exterior textures. Which is (theoretically, not counting compression) 4x the pixel density and 4x the size of 1k.
  13. You should definitely be able to check for conflicts in T5E and invest some time in resolving them. If you do, 1.81 should be fine.
  14. More vram means you can use larger textures. Madwizard reported that 4gb seems to be right for 2k exterior color maps+1k exterior normals. How much difference that makes visually is completely subjective.
  15. According to the techpowerup article the Asus cooler on the 970 is absurdly quiet. It got 9.9 and at least back in the days wizard was a harware guru. The Strix cooler is not a blower design like the titan cooler, but it looks similar to the DirectCU II wich blew about 30% of the heat out of the case. With the low power consumtion it shouldn't be much of a problem anyway.
  16. Are there still 8800GTs running? Afaik those cards had a fairly limited lifespan. Asus seems to have done a significantly better job then EVGA on the aftermarked cooler for the 970 cards btw.
  17. Thanks for the clarification. Is there an easy way to check for this in the ENB hud?
  18. Besides all the compatibility hassle, ENB is just the more powerful tool to adjust weathers and can create much better results. Aestetics is always subjective The NLA weather plugin is not compatible with ELE weathers afaik. ELFX is also not always optimal for NLA imho as the NLA lighting was designed with vanilla in mind. The Dunken Huntsman for example will get a pinkish tint. But usually ELFX works well with ELE. Imho ELE makes the shadows in NLA way too dark. I'm not sure ELE works properly in NLA as ELE requires ingame imagespaces to be enabled. Interesting! In my personal oppinion NLA was not too bright, did you compare it to the screenshots. It's easy to miss something in the installation when quickly testing multiple ENBs. NLA is more on the side of what I saw in RL then others. Vividian for example is too fantasy for my taste. The new version of Opethfeldt's and an offspring by Jafin16 look very promising, they are WIP.
  19. I would assume that you probably want to determine the sets of lighting mods before making an ENB. But if someone is using ENBs for quite some time and stumbles upon this thread, I would say ELE is ENB preset specific. At first glance ELE sounds like it could enhance the visual experience with all ENBs. It just depends on how you look at it Is there a possibility to completely disable the games built in post processing? Because some talk about ELE suggested that it is.
  20. Just be aware though that ELE is ENB specific. Some ENBs will look worse with it, for some it won't work at all. For example it darkenes the NLA shadows too much imho. It also needs ingame image spaces enabled to work as intended, but I honestly don't know what that means.
  21. That was essentially the idea, my (outdated) patch on the wiki does exactly that. There is no real need for a unified extended patch imho because there are only 3 mods conflicting (at least that was the case with 1.7.3). People also tend to have mixed oppinions on extended we thought I'd better leave them modular. Apart from Paarthurnax dilemma and maybe some tweaking to Azirok's WAF/CCF/CCO/Requiem patch, patching Requiem with STEP Core was mostly the easiest kind of T5E work. It was mostly copying over texture entries or keywords (+adjusting keyword count). It is kind of time consuming though and besides troubles with my GPU I have postponed them because RL doesn't allow me to start with Skyrim atm.
  22. The new version definitely requires a new patch. From the readme: "The machanism to prevent armor changes in combat is now based on a keyword approach. [...]" => Those definitely need patching to work with WAF. Waiting another small patch or two is probably a good idea though.
  23. I'm surprised noone mentioned Dwarf Fortress. It takes a little while to learn what does what but beware, extreme time sink! If you want to get into the game, I'd recommend PreidexisErrant's Starter Pack. If you are looking for a tutorial I'd pick the one by Zemalf.
  24. Yes, that's the file. Just hiding it is the better solution, didn't think about that. I'm sorry, I do not know what it will do to your playthrough if the script has started already, this is the kind of thing all mod authers warn about: Changing scripts mid game. That can very well break your save. It can even have utterly unpredictable results in the long run like NPCs crouching and not responding on the other side of the galaxy (example from the CWO forum). If the script isn't started, it will most likely be just fine. There is probably no difference to the variables of the first stage of the quest either. If you have a savegame just before the quest, you could just try it. If something goes wrong, rearrange the .pex files and reload the old save. But like I said, it could have very unpredictable results in the long run if the quest is already started and you decide to keep the new .pex file.
  25. In what order did you install The Choice Is Yours and Requiem (left pane in MO)? As they both come with a .pex file related to the Faendal and Sven quest. Could you try switching them and report back? That would be really great.
