You need to install STEP:Core/Extended first on a clean vanilla Skyrim. Then install whatever customizations you want ... if they are only textures, and if you installed all of the relevant STEP mods, then use the Extended patch.

No, you follow the STEP Guide, explicitly. If you only install the Core mods (marked according to the legend), then you have installed STEP:Core, and you will only install the Core patch (as noted in N. Patches section). If you install all STEP mods, then you have installed STEP:Extended and will need the Extended patch (as noted in N. Patches section). All the instructions are in the guide if you read it and follow along.

Once you are finished installing STEP, you can install whatever texture mods you want in whatever way you want to get the desired effect (not supported). If you install other plugin mods, then things are a bit more complicated, but it should work out fine in the end unless there are plugin conflicts with your additions beyond STEP (again, not supported). If only textures, then there is no effect on the STEP patches, as they only relate to the plugins.

Patches get installed at the end, so I am pretty sure you are not following the guide explicitly but likely taking shortcuts if you are installing the patches after the DLC way up front.

ah i see..in my case im useing this thing calld SMC witch is a program that uses a tone of other mods. so i had to skip some of the step guide beacuse of this. and im using most mods in that pack and those mods require patches witch are allready incorperated into my SMC file.  some of witch the step uses.but the problem

is the Step patches beacuse the step patch requires stuff im not useing. loot reports  its missing AOS.esp and ELE legendery lite esp.. from the STEP extended patch. but im not useing this mods as im using  sounds of skyrim and fantasy overhaul for music and  im using the ELE and ELE interirors .. so what should i do about the patches. do i still need them?

In your case, the STEP patches do not apply. You will either need to ignore any Bashed Patching errors or patch things yourself with TESEdit. Our patches mostly are used to forward USP fixes or to reduce the number of needed plugins. Hard to say if it matters much with your setup.

No telling, but I would assume that whatever you are doing will cause some conflicts. You may notice nothing ever, but after hours of play, you may notice a real problem. impossible for us to say or to support I'm afraid ... that's why we created the guide and tested our mod lineup. You are in your own territory with that setup ;)

I strongly urge you to read the wiki for MO and also watch the video tutorials for these tools. Most of what you are doing is using the same steps for different tools/mods, so learning how to do it for one mod will aid you in the future.

i have watched videos and i no how to add programs to MO. but they dont explain how to install the fix.. since its new. . i allready watched the tutorials and understand how to use FNIS...  its applying the fix that i dont understand. and it dose not explain how to apply the fix in the wiki  but anyways i ended up doing it myself..dunno if it was right.. i manuly installd the fix by taking the contens of the zip and overighting the orginal file.since mod organiser would not let me do it i had no choice.  the fix was just the another vershion of genrateuser.exe anywaz.

The 'fix' is just another mod, in the same manner as the whole FNIS mod. The message from MO about "No game data on top level" should be handled in exactly the same manner as any other mod that says that.

I can't see how "mod organiser would not let me do it" is a valid comment. MO can't stop you from installing any mod!

In the end your manually installing the contents to overwrite the existing file is all that is needed. @fore simply provided a new executable to replace the existing one.

As to the absence of instructions about the FNIS fix in the wiki. As stated before, the steps taken to install that file are exactly the same as every other mod and there is no need to add explicit instructions for every new file that may be added to a mod.
