PsyKo Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Exemple: I downloaded the mod Elemental Staff-15152 and in the .7z I find: Texture Folder, Meshes folder and elemental stave.esp. What is the purpose of the .esp? (I think it's a plugins to craft those stave.) If I only want to replace the original staves witht he new texture and meshes, does I need to instal the esp? I think the answer is no ;) but it's only to be sure because i am a new Skyrim modder. Thx
Besidilo Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 If it comes in a BSA format, you have to activate the ESP for it to work in the game. Also, read the Skyrim Installation Guide, it will answer a lot of your questions. https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_Installation#tab=Skyrim
PsyKo Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 Yeah I read that, and it's not a BSA, it's loose files. That y I think if i replace those file in skyrim data... I will get the texture and meshes only.
JudgmentJay Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 The .esp is there to tell Skyrim to use the mod's meshes and textures as they are not a part of the base game's assets. I haven't used the mod so it might do other things, but it at least does that.
Farlo Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 The ESP is needed; it's what switches the texture based on the staff's type. The "staff" object normally only has one texture, no matter what effect it may have, so there has to be a script of some kind to differentiate between the enchantments and apply the correct skin.
