Crimson13 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Does anyone have a preferred mod for a player home? I use Dawnspire, mostly because it comes with spells that let you send items to their places and to the home along with a spell that sends you to the home and back where you used it. Along with that if you use the forge, workbench, grindstone, enchanting table, alchemy spot the items sync up to you, so you don't have to dig around for what you want/get everything to make armor, weapons, potions, etc. However, the mod author won't update it anymore and didn't add Dawnguard & Hearthfire support because they crashed his game. Which I think doesn't make sense, but there it is. Any of you guys want to share what you use?
phazer11 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Well whenever I use a house mod I always go with Heartwood Cottage
Barthanes Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I've tried a lot of housing mods, some are enormous, some are simple. Really comes down to what you want. Sounds like you want some crafting & automated sorting. Try Jaggarsfeld https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/38392/? I've been using that & its has some of the crafting & sorting your looking for. Honestly Herathfires homes usually get the job done pretty well, not so much if you hate building.
Crimson13 Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 In all honesty I like the Hearthfire homes, the sense of building a house to what you want is pretty cool. It's got shrines, a forge and the rest, enchanting table and alchemy lab no matter what, ect.. The only things that are really missing from them is a place to put the Dragon Priest Masks and Claws. Jaggarsfeld is pretty unique in the sense that it also added the Paragon stones and Arvak's skull which I was surprised at, so points to that. It's just so convenient with Dawnspire though, you can open up a menu via spell whenever you want to send items so you can essentially never get over-encumbered plus a teleport spell that goes back and forth. And the forge/workbench/grindstone/alchemy lab/enchanting table is linked to what they need. The only negative is that the author isn't likely to update this and didn't provide Dawnguard support because Dawnguard causes him to crash. I've only tried a few player home mods and I figured I'd ask to see what the other STEP users like to use. Maybe I'll find something better than Dawnspire, maybe not. It's interesting to see what other people like.
TechAngel85 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I've been wanting to try out this one: https://forum.step-project.com/showthread.php?tid=2753
phazer11 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Oh another one I can recommend that actually came out before (and did much the same thing as) and is compatible with Heartfires (as is Heartwood Cottage).Build Your Own HomeI haven't used Silverfish Grotto enough to recommend it. Gopher did a video of it I think.
TehKaoZ Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I am incredibly picky about my player homes, so much that I went without a single home in my game for a long time. But as others have stated, it's highly dependent on what you want out of a home. A Home I have settled on currently is: Castle Stonespire by Kraeten https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27125/? Best castle on the Nexus IMO Another player home I have used for a long time is Rayeks End - Mini Hideout by Rayek https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16028/? incredibly functional as far as layout, great aesthetics, small and compact, wonderfully hidden from prying eyes. I personally like homes that are hidden and/or fortified, I simply cannot feel right living in a wooden box with dragons, bandits, and god knows what else wondering around Skyrim. Although several of the homes already suggested are nice.
JudgmentJay Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I used Whiterun Mansion in my last playthrough and liked it alot. I'm also a big fan of Forgotten Windmill.
rootsrat Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I used Whiterun Mansion in my last playthrough and liked it alot. I'm also a big fan of Forgotten Windmill. Forgotten Windmill is an excellent player home! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
go2kant Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 My player home is a must for every play through! Elysium Estate The layout and aesthetics are simply AMAZING! Highly recommended! https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/33939/? cheers Kant
Tiger Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I always build my own. My current house is an Orc stronghold. I've taken parts from Jagarsfeld. I'm a collector, I like to collect as much as possible. There are enough bookshelves inside for every book in the game and I'm trying to get them all in my library. The mine entrance leads to my underground armoury. I use Skyre and there is a mannequin and weapon rack for every craftable weapon and piece of armour all arranged into sections according to the material used. So for example, there are 3 different steel armours and 25 steel weapons so my steel section has 3 mannequins and 25 weapon racks. I want to have the entire hall filled. There is a door leading from the armoury to the trophy hall which is the trophy hall from Jagarsfeld which I've modified. So there is a place for all the unique items such as masks, artifacts, books, scrolls etc as well as another load of racks and mannequins for more armour. There is a mannequin for example for each different guard armour (only have Whiterun and Solitude so far). My current character is quite the poisoner so the cellar of the house is a large cave filled with all sorts of mushrooms and a few deathbell/nightshade.
Crimson13 Posted November 27, 2013 Author Posted November 27, 2013 Alright, I'll admit that that is awesome Tiger. The fact that you made your own home is really cool, makes me wish I had the talent to do the same. Also, Elysium Estate is really good. Really feel homey but gives alot of options. The mod author might add a automatic storage feature along with other things but that's a might. Still, really good. I might use this for displaying my sword/armor/adventures rather than using the Dawnspire tower, thanks for showing it go2kant.
Solmyr Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I like Hunters Cabin of Riverwood. It's small and simple, but makes for a nice starter home until you can afford the others.
TechAngel85 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I decided to install a player home, but had a hard time deciding one on. Dragon Cliff Manor was almost my pick but after installing it I realized it was too big and too nice, but probably would have kept it if it came with more armor/weapon storage since I want to create a display of all my armors. I thought seriously about Breezehome FullyUpgradable but decided that I wanted to expand out a bit as I always go for Breezehome when I play. Finally, the one I ended up settling with was Jaggarsfeld. It's an older one that really isn't supported anymore, but still the best for what I was looking for. The auto sorting is amazing and the incredible "trophy hall" is perfect for those that want to display their collections. The only problem I have is deciding how to organize my collections. haha! There's so much space!
Nozzer66 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I tend to like the one you get given after completing Helgen Reborn's main quest line. Got just about everything.
