SabreCat Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Down the road when I get some hardware upgrades, I'm considering building Skyrim via SR instead of base STEP. I have mixed feelings about female body replacers, though, and would rather like to skip them if I can. So I'm wondering: - Is there some central role the body replacers play in SR? If I skip those and mods that are add-ons to them, is anything else in the guide going to break? - If these do occupy a linchpin place in the guide, would it be feasible to do the Dimon mod but not Blessed? From looking at the mod descriptions, Blessed just increases the bust size of UNP characters; if I'd likely choose one of the less top-heavy options under Dimon UNP, is there any point to adding Blessed? phazer11 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Not particularly UNPB is just more realistic than CBBE *cough* the only body mod which intensely disturbs me. Also you would have to pick non UNP/UNPB versions of some of the armors if you liked them as the ones in the SR guide are for the UNPB-BBP body for the most part.
EssArrBee Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 No they do not play a central role to gameplay, it's more about the look you are trying to achieve. UNP is a certain type of body and it requires certain meshes for the armors and clothes to work, which are the exeter mods in SR. The blessed body is about bigger boobs than the base UNP, and the textures are to give the bodies better look that the vanilla body textures. You can also use the UNP underwear body, it's an option in the UNP armors mod. Better Males sucks though so I'd skip that mod, maybe one day Robert's Males will be finished.
Neovalen Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Unpb is essentially the same as unp on 0 weight but at 100 weight has larger breasts. Therefore scaling from 0-100 is similarly eschewed. To my mind it adds for variety and wider range of shape. That said body mods are something getting evaluated again in LE. Better males isn't great but honestly its what we got. I have yet to try Schlongs of Skyrim.
grhuff Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 For those of you that aren't interested in the nudity, Better Males has an optional for underwear that uses the default loincloth and the newest UNPB installer by xp32 has a bikini option as well.
Luinithil Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I'm using Better Males, but planning on trying out Schlongs. Meanwhile I substituted CNHF for UNPB, and am very happy with that choice.
SabreCat Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Cool, thanks for the input, everyone! For the record, I'm not opposed to nudity in principle; I used a nude mod in Oblivion for quite a while. If there were a gameplay reason for it--a needs mod that encouraged bathing, perhaps, or a Loverslab style mod that introduced cutscene sexytimes to marriage quests and whatnot--I'd be all for it. But under basically vanilla gameplay, the most common scenario for seeing the nude textures is when looting fallen enemies' armor, which personally unsettled me (do I really want to form the habit of getting my jollies by staring at nude corpses?) and struck me as unimmersive (why doesn't anyone in Tamriel wear clothing under their armor, or why is my mighty hero looting everyone's underpants?). So I appreciate the tips about non-nude options. I think even with bikinis, the UNP style bodies would be offputting, though. Porn-star bodies would likely be as rare in Tamriel as they are in the real world. In fact, your average resident of Skyrim, chugging mead and chopping wood on a daily basis, would be much more likely to be thick-set and muscular than wasp-waisted and gangly. So thanks for the tip about CNHF, Luinithil, that looks right up my alley! What's the support like, as far as armor mods to match?

Exactly my reason for not using any body replacers. Totally immersion breaking imho. Anyway, why the hell people want exaggerated and overexposed boobs and bottoms in their game in the first place - I will never understand... Like Sabrecat said - it's like having game full of pornstars. Silly and not very mature :D
phazer11 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 The above reason is why whenever I'm in the mood for a body replacer I will use a UNP style body rather than CBBE. Though I wish that project to make NPC's use the weight slider and different body types worked better like Automatic Variants but for bodies and faces. I also cannot understand why people want skimpy armors and such. Ok so I'm going to dress my character like a prostitute... opps guess I needed more armor protection because he/she died awful quick. Plus they often make me want to gag.
EssArrBee Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I've yet to come across a body replacer that doesn't have a never nude option. I haven't tried them all, but I've used all the most popular ones and they all have some kind of underwear body. UNP has a couple, the ones from UNP are bikinis though, and Exeter, who does the UNP meshes for clothes and armor has the vanilla underwear if you want that. There are plenty of other mods that add underwear back to the body replacers you just gotta look.

What's the support like, as far as armor mods to match?Sorry I took this long to get back to you-- haven't been on here in a bit. CNHF support for various vanilla and DLC armors is still pretty much in progress: what you see is what you'll get on the mod downloads as well as links to other conversions (soutear and MistriliaSysmic have done a few in addition to Calyps's ongoing work). Meanwhile, vanilla armors and most modded armors will work fine, as long as they're not revealing/skimpy. CNHF 2 when released will be providing support for UNP textures and armors; thus most popular armor mods that support UNP/UNPB will work fine with CNHF, though the body shape will necessarily follow UNP's. This however does mean that the current version 1 armor conversions will need some fixing up as well to fit properly with CNHF 2. Not sure when v2 will arrive, to be honest. I think Calyps is still stomping out some mesh quirks. Meanwhile, those looking at body texture replacers might want to look at Nuska's thoughts on the subject: https://nuskamods.tumblr.com/post/55274076012/oh-lots-of-****-i-learned-from-this-entire-body
